Free Video Editing Software

I am looking for a free video editing software that is similar to Windows Movie Maker. I won't be needing any features that Movie Maker doesn't offer, but need at least what Movie Maker has.

Why not just use Movie Maker? Well I was hoping there was something out there that will create a higher quality end product. After going through editing and stuff on Movie Maker, when it compiles the final product, even at the highest setting, the quality decreases, it's not a huge drop, but enough to make a difference.

The videos being edited will mainly come from my Sony HC-96 Handycam, in avi format.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

If you have linux available, Open Shot is really good for simple stuff.

Hear my warnings, unbelievers. We have raised altars in this land so that we may sacrifice you to our gods. There is no hope in opposing the inevitable. Put down your arms, unbelievers, and bow before the forces of Chaos!
