Is hacking really that big of a problem on the PSP? I don't know anyone who has a hacked one. In comparison, I'd say about 70% of the people I know with a DS use some sort of R4 card thing.

It's pretty much the reason sales of the PSP itself have been pretty darn good until the last half-year or so and sales of PSP software have been utterly, utterly shitty.

I think it hurts the PSP more because even though the DS hacking is more widespread, Nintendo still rake in the software sales because of how huge the console is.

The PSP is already a niche system, and if you factor in that a lot of people who made the investment were willing to go the full nine and hack it... yeah, more damaging.

The DS is targeted to everyone, which includes young kids and our parents generation, who often have no idea what a torrent is.
The PSP is marketed toward the teenager to 20s/30s group.

So I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that whoever does Atlus's game distributions fucked up big time, because only as of today does gamestop.com show any copies of Hexyz Force near me. And by near me I mean 200 miles away. Also Amazon still hasn't shipped my copy and the only other options are two people selling it for over $96(!). It's unreal. Oh, and I seem to finally be able to find it on Fry's, because I tried searching it earlier and got nothing.

Honestly, one of the biggest reasons I bought my PSP was the ability to emulate NES/SNES games on it. I usually keep whatever I'm playing in the UMD drive and my emulator stuff on the memory stick.

I like having physical copies with boxes and such. I'm kind of a collector so I like adding another box to the wall.

Alright so I went down to Fry's to get the apparently rare physical copy of Hexyz Force and after playing it for a little bit I think it's okay. I don't think it's going to break any new ground though. It's turn based and the graphics look like what I imagine Nostalgia on DS would have looked like if the DS could do 3D well. Oh and if they added in color. The music's nice, and you can see monsters on the field so no random encounters. I also like the evolution of weapons by using points to level them up and get new skills and such. This game is super anime, but I think you could tell by looking at the cover so if you're interested in it at all you must be fine with it. An issue however is that there's no save anywhere option. This is probably going to be the biggest problem, because for a portable RPG the save points have been kind of spread out.

Oh actually I know my biggest problem with the game. The names. Everything has really weird names. Berge, Palafina, Delgaia, Elda. At the start they give you like 13 names straight away and they're all really weird and I can't remember them. Also I need someone who has the game to tell me I'm not alone in thinking that the villain at the start of Cecilias story looks exactly like Yuri from Vesperia. It's his long lost twin or something.

I finally picked one of these up with MHFU and I'm having a blast with it. I was wrong to dismiss this system so early in it's life. I have a 8gig memory stick on the way from newegg so that I can do some PSN store purchases. I'm also looking back through the thread for some good game recommendations.

I ended up getting a used 2000, this was not a bad decision to make.

Edit: I basically bought this thing for MHFU and Phantasy Star Portable 2. However it looks like there's a lot of nice games for it out.

So I'm thinking of getting back into Portable Ops to finish it up so I can play Peace Walker, just never got a chance to play past the first few hours before tons of shit came out and it go buried. But I have a question about squads cause it's been so long since I've played. Is it possible to deploy your B,C or D etc squads? The only option I've ever seen is to deploy your A squad and I end up having to constantly swap out those characters cause they get fatigued, but the other squads just sit there uselessly in my menu. How is that supposed to work exactly?

What are you talking about? PE2 was a great RE clone. Much better than the first game (which was a thorouhly mediocre Action/RPG).

My hope is that the 3rd Birthday ends up as RE4 with magic and more stats, but given that it's Square-Enix, that's probably too much to ask for.

One big example is KH: Birth By Sleep - Disney refuses to allow digital distribution of it and so it'll only be available in UMD form.

    Link please.

It's still not up on the Japanese PSN specifically because of Japanese Disney copyright. We might get lucky in the 'States and Europe. I don't have a specific article to link at the moment.

It's true that it's not on the Japanese PSN, but unless you have some supporting evidence, it's anyone's guess why. And the Japanese PSN is no indicator of what will happen in the US or Europe - there are plenty of games on the US PSN that aren't on the Japanese PSN and vice versa.

I don't want to play the game personally (played KH1 a few hours and wasn't impressed), but it annoys me when people use it as an argument against DD when we still don't know whether or not it will be UMD exclusive.
It's at the very best hugely disheartening that one of the biggest games that are coming to the platform hasn't been confirmed yet

I don't have a link to back it up, but my understanding was that the game is designed to not run from a memory stick whatsoever as a means to combat piracy (which is absolutely destroying the PSP, I don't care what anyone says).

My girlfriend had to bring her younger brother and a friend of his to the Audubon Zoo here in New Orleans yesterday to work a job, and on the car ride I distinctly recall his friend talking about wanting to buy a new PSP for whatever reason and bringing over his memory stick because it's hacked or whatever.

I almost pulled over right then and there and asked him to get the fuck out of my car.

That's just a wee bit of an overreaction don't you think?

Additionally, does anyone know if I can buy PSN games for my PSP and then transfer them to my PS3? It's currently at my 'rents house, but I would like FF7/8 on m PSP right now if that's possible

Sad news is that the pirates give CFW and Homebrew a bad name too. It's guilt by association and you're automatically assumed to be a pirate until you prove yourself not. :(

In happier news... started playing the first few minutes of Disgaea Infinite because I decided I couldn't wait till the weekend. This shit is hilarious.

For $40, you're losing UMD support, but you're getting a nicer system, 16GBs of internal storage space, and 3 free games thanks to that Sony promotion.
