I've owned a 2000 before (and a 1000 before that), but seeing both the 2000 and the 3000 running side by side really accentuates how much better the screen is on the 3000. After viewing the new screen, everything looks slightly washed out on the old one, and it was a trip seeing image ghosting again.
The colours on the 3000 look amazing, but I just can't unsee the dithering that replaced the ghosting. Ghosting bothers me a lot less than an LCD display that appears to go interlaced in motion (most people don't seem to notice it though, so more power to ya).

The only time I notice it is in Tekken DR. When you're in training mode (against a flat solid colored background) and your character jumps/dodges/throws/moves quickly it is pretty obvious.

I've never noticed any interlacing/dithering on my psp Go's screen. Does the go not suffer this problem or do I just not notice it. I noticed lots of ghosting when I first got my psp-2000 but I got used to it and don't notice it anymore.

Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

I notice lines on the 3000 screen, but this is not true interlacing. Interlacing would be when a screen renders every other line and swaps between the two of them at a rapid pace. It is most noticeable on CRT monitors showing images with 1 pixel horizontal lines. The "interlacing" on the PSP-3000 screen is actually a byproduct of how the blue elements are arranged on the LCD. The blue is a much darker color than the red and the green, and each color element on the LCD is arranged in horizontal lines, like so:

Gran Turismo is awesome as long as you know what you're getting into (there is no traditional "career mode", very little car tuning, and no endurance races - it is designed specifically to be a portable game for a portable console and not just a PS2 port), but it has a ridiculous amount of cars and tracks, looks gorgeous, and runs at 60fps.

The need for Speed games have gotten better, but avoid all of them except for maybe Shift. It's not that great though. If you wanted a tuner racing game you could check out the Midnight Clubs. They have the same old ridiculous rubberband AI that the console versions do, but the customization options are through the roof. If you're looking for a UMD version of the first one though, get the Greatest Hits version. The original version of MC3 had horrific load times, but the GH version cuts them in half.

Also, CJ knows what's up. Initial D is awesome. The manual is in English although the game is in Japanese, so even though I have absolutely no idea who any of these people are or what they are saying I am still having a lot of fun tearing through mountain passes while listening to saccharine Eurobeat.

If you don't feel like importing and you want a pure arcade racing game, the first Ridge Racer is incredible, and it's on the PSN too.

If you REALLY want to know what's going on in Initial D PSP, it's the same story as the V3 Arcade game.

    In a nutshell:
I see you drive a [car]. Well, my [car] is faster. I'll race you.

Except for Ry, who's just doing a test run, and will let you try to keep up if you want.

It's not "in motion". The lines are always there even if things aren't moving (this part is important, by the way... interlace line artifacts typically show only on moving scenes). When actually looking at a PSP-3000 screen and an interlaced screen, the difference is pretty obvious. An interlaced screen, even when perfectly still, will still look like it's vibrating and moving. The best test is to simply point a video camera at the object... the CRTs will look like they are constantly flickering, while non-interlaced screens won't have this effect (this is called "interline twitter"). It's just pixel lines.

For a better explanation, you can read the wikipedia article:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interlace

Compare this to Ghosting, which is seen only when the scene is in motion. A perfectly-still screen doesn't have ghosting.

Sup dudes, thought I'd post this deal I noticed on Dell's website. Assassin's Creed PSP Bundle for $159.

    Link Here!

White PSP-3000, a UMD copy of Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines, a 2GB Memory Stick Pro Duo and a Code for a download of the film "Angels & Demons" for $159.

This is one of the few ways you'll get a White PSP in the US natively so jump on it while it's still in stock--to my knowledge these aren't made anymore.

I bought this sucker back in February and I love it.

So I bought a PSP go over the weekend. (From Amazon, so it'll ship later this week.)

Amazon was selling it for $220, plus I had about $33 from the Coinstar so I managed to score it for About $187.
I actually have another $25 gift card coming from my credit card's reward points that I wanted to use (To bring it down to $162) but it wasn't going to ship until late July so I'll just use that on something else.

$187 (With originally planning on $162) for the system itself with $60-$80 worth of free games was good enough for me. I love the size of the system and I'm essentially going to treat it as a completely new handheld system outside of the PSP branding so I can get over the whole digital downloads thing.

Plus Wal-Mart had all the GO accessories on Clearance so I picked up bunch of stuff there too.

My PSP Go arrived yesterday (Well, rather, I had to pick it up at the post office due to a failed delivery attempt on Saturday) and thus far I love the goddamn thing. It fixes my biggest issue I had with the PSP: Size. Finally it feels like a portable system. Something I can slip into my pocket easily. It's easily my second favorite hardware design for a handheld, right behind the Game Boy Micro and right before the DS Lite.

It's also nice to be able to finally just grab the thing and go without having to decide "What games am I going to take with me today?" I'm looking forward to receiving the codes for my freebie games as they're all games I wanted to play and I'm also looking forward to playing alot of stuff I've missed on the PSP for whatever reason.

I bought a bunch (Almost all) of the PSP Go accessories at Wal-Mart last weekend since they were all on clearance. (Both Hard & Soft Cases, Screen Protectors, Cradle, & the Earbuds/Mic) and I might actually go back and buy an extra USB cable, as it was the only Go accessory on sale I didn't grab because I didn't see needing a second one just yet.

I'm actually even considering buying a Dual Shock 3 and setting it up with the thing over at my brother-in-law's place using his PS3 so I can have what is essentially a mini-PSOne and I can catch up on all those titles that I've missed as well on an actual TV with an actual controller.

Now to just avoid touching it until I get the screen protectors (hopefully) on. I played with it a bit yesterday before it went back into the box so here's hoping I haven't fucked it up yet.

Pictures to follow whenever I get my computer back from the shop.

Screen protector went on pretty much as well as can be expected, thank god. No bubbles and no bubbles caused by dust as far as I can tell.

There's one or two tiny flecks in there that are so tiny that they disappear depending on the angle you view the screen, so it's not perfect, but I know for a fact if I pull it up to reapply it's just gonna make it worse.

I have one extra protector as they come in a pack of two and I'll likely pick up another 2-pack while Wal-Mart has 'em on sale.

Strategic Deal Reflects Bringing the Popular Ys and The Legend of Heroes series to North America

XSEED Games today announced a wide-ranging partnership with developer and publisher Nihon Falcom, one of Japan’s most well-respected development studios, to bring the three latest installments in the long-running Ys franchise: Ys SEVEN, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, and Ys I & II Chronicles, to the PSP (PlayStation Portable) system in North America. In addition, the deal will allow XSEED Games to release the next three chapters in Falcom’s popular The Legend of Heroes series, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky trilogy (known as the Sora no Kiseki trilogy in Japan), to the North American market on the PSP system. All six titles were developed by one of Japan’s most well-admired and longest-running independent-minded studios, Falcom, which has been a pioneer of the RPG genre since their first release in 1983.

“We are ecstatic to partner with XSEED Games on multiple new releases,” said Toshihiro Kondo, President of Falcom. “Their passion and reputation for working on outstanding RPGs is in line with our own development philosophy and assures me that our fans in North America will be getting the best English versions of our games possible.”

Under the terms of the partnership, XSEED Games retains exclusive North American publishing and distribution rights to multiple upcoming iterations of the Ys and The Legend of Heroes series, starting with Ys SEVEN, exclusively for the PSP system.

“I couldn’t be more pleased to announce a partnership with a development studio as renown by gamers for consistently putting out quality titles as Falcom,” said Jun Iwasaki, President of XSEED Games. “Their titles have always been some of the most requested titles so it is going to be our pleasure to oblige the North American fans by delivering an amazing line up of in-depth and gripping RPGs.”

Ys SEVEN is the latest installment in the long-running Ys series which first debuted on PC in 1987. This is the first iteration to be built specifically for the PSP system, taking full advantage of the widescreen format and hardware for beautiful graphics and virtually no loadtimes. The battle system consists of a three-member battle party with enemies engaged on the field map in real-time for fast-paced combat. Old fans of the series and new players alike will be immersed into the rich vibrant world containing over 30 hours of gameplay.

Currently in production, Ys SEVEN will be the first Falcom project from the announced line up released in North America by XSEED Games for the PSP system in late summer 2010. XSEED Games will release more product information and plans on each title in the coming months.

KB: Ys SEVEN is scheduled for a late summer release, and that will be followed by Ys: The Oath in Felghana by the end of this year. Early next year will see Ys I&II Chronicles and then The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (Sora no Kiseki FC). SC will obviously need a fair amount of time to complete after the release of the first Trails in the Sky.

My first thought was "Shoot! Why does it have to come out now when I'm broke?" but then I realized that I'm getting paid next week and I could very well spend the money that I allocated for DQ9 on Ys 7 instead. DQ9 sounds fun and all and I'll definitely get it sometime this year, but Ys 7 looks like it has much more intense gameplay (finally an Action/RPG that looks like it plays more like Devil May Cry than "My first Action game") plus it's on my preferred portable system. Plus, I'd like to reward XSeed for picking up the Falcom license (I have the Chinese version of Sora no Kiseki, but I'm really looking forward to getting the entire series in English), whereas who cares if Nintendo & SE make even more money?

Whoa wait a second here, they want an extra $20 for the limited edition of Ys Seven? For serious, $20 bucks for a cloth map, an artbook, and soundtrack sampler? You have to be shitting me, if you're going to charge $20 extra then you need to go all the way and do like Dead Rising 2. I mean compare
    * Exclusive Two-Disc Steelbook case includes:
o Dead Rising 2 game disc

    * Complete box contents include:
    o Steelbook case (described above)
    o Zombrex “Syringe” pen
o Zombrex “Prescription” notepad (25 pages)
    o Zombrex “Safety” card
o Zombrex “Prospectus” Sales Brochure (16 pages).
o Dead Rising 2 Hardback Artbook (48 pages)

    to
    * Game soundtrack CD featuring more than 20 songs
    * 60-page art book showcasing artwork from Ys SEVEN, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, and Ys I & II Chronicles
    * 12.5" by 34" Cloth Map highlighting the world of the Ys series

Oh no. Oh no no no no NO. That is $10 worth of limited edition swag, and no more. Maaaaaybe I'll get the game, but I'm getting the standard $30 edition. I'm not paying $50 for a PSP game. That's absurd if it's not some kind of DJ Max import with special cards and a box or whatever stuff those come with.

Although the DR2 package sounds amusing, I'd probably get more use out of the Ys limited edition. Falcom games do tend to have really good soundtracks, after all...

Of course, all of this is moot since A) I have a PSP Go and B) I don't buy limited edition versions of games unless they're the only option or are offered at no extra cost.

But honestly for the soundtrack I could just youtube it. I'm sure the songs are already up. Also if their Lunar soundtrack is to be believed, they get really lazy on those discs. Lunar's was a CD without even color on the disc, just silver and black, and there wasn't even a backing to the case to show the track list. You just saw the CD. So that's like a dollar worth of effort right there, so all we have left is the cloth map and artbook. If that artbook isn't hardcover then I can't imagine trying to justify $20 for it and the map. And also I got the Persona 4 artbook for free and I could potentially be getting an EO3 artbook for free as well. So like, at most that artbook should be worth $5 to the package cost. $14 for a cloth map then? I don't think so.

Pureauthor, Zombrex is the brand for the zombie antidote or something. It's just an in-game thing, like Umbrella.
