you can do N7 missions to bump up the mission count to reach the collector ship
that way you can avoid getting any loyalty
Wait, what?
How do you get N7 missions?
just check visit a planet
if EDI mentions an anomaly scan the planet for a drop point to open up a mission
That's not N7 missions. That's anomaly missions. I thought maybe there was something I was missing.
Uh, those are N7 missions. Sorry.
N7 stands for Spectres. They are more Cerberus missions if anything. I remember a few of them being Cerberus related anyway.
N7 does not stand for Spectres, N7 is the highest classification an Alliance Marine can obtain based on extremely difficult training regimens and basically means "certified badass"
Um, then why are you still wearing the N7 armor? You work for freakin Cerberus. You know the Alliances nemesis. Well, at least they don't speak kindly of each other. I do remember wearing it at the beggining of ME1 but I don't remember seeing any other Alliance wearing the armor. So I assumed it was for Spectres and that Bioware got lazy and didn't want to change the outfit. If only top Alliance Marines can wear it then why wasn't anyone else? Am I the only "certified badass" in the universe? I highly doubt it.
You work for Cerberus but you're still Alliance. Commander shepard isn't a meanginless title. No one else was wearing it because no one else is an N7 soldier. Anderson is the only other character said to be one. It's also not like you're taking a stroll through arcturus station and looking at every alliance marine company there is. There's really no point in arguing this, someone already linked the codex, and there's no arguing with that.
For that matter, you pull it out of "your" locker when you wake up, and it fits you perfectly. So maybe cerberus got ahold of shepard's effects at some point and has been storing them.

Um, I pretty much thought that there really isn't that many Spectre's either.
I remember reading the first book and they made it sound like that it was rare to ever see a Spectre and that if you did, chances are you were the target and would never talk about it to anyone because you would be shortly dead.
I do have a question about the second book and ME2.
Is that the Miranda that was in the book? As in the little girl they were experimenting on?
For that matter, you pull it out of "your" locker when you wake up, and it fits you perfectly. So maybe cerberus got ahold of shepard's effects at some point and has been storing them.
They could have gotten their hands on some and had it fitted for Shepard too. I mean, they've had Shepard for two years. Taking his or her measurements while you're at it wouldn't be that hard.
I have to say - I would love for ME3 to feature an even longer ending mission sequence. There is something very very awesome about having your whole squad on a mission.
What I want in ME3 is to be able to collect volus like Pokemon and feed them designer biotic enhancing drugs to create a stable of a variety of biotic gods.
The Normandy's cargo holds are so empty. So much space for volus like this one.
There needs to be several missons in ME3 with the Me2 finale structure. Even though it was said your party members helped out of the ship when you and 2 others were shooting people, they didn't really seem to do much.

No, her name really was Gillian, that wasnt a cover up or anything. That book takes place like, 3 months after ME1, so there's no way it could be Miranda anyway
I actually have sort of come around on ashley, because she's decently well written. She just has the low level racism thing going on that I can't stand. "Some of my best friends are aliens!" yeah, fuck you.
also her face is weird looking
You see a lot of people like Ashley here in the midwest; they're not racist, but their parents were, and they don't exactly fraternize, so those old-fashioned beliefs are never challenged.
Ashley's only experience with aliens before serving on the Normandy is the stories she heard from her grandfather; once she's with you chasing after Saren, she's actually exposed to things and realizes it's not so bad.
Human involvement in galactic society is only fifty years old.
And started with an unprovoked war.
I think that sums it up.
and yet, most every other human you meet seems pretty well adjusted to everyday life alongside aliens. I mean obviously the xenophobes probably aren't living on the citadel, but still. I read ashley's issues as being much more about baggage from her family and what happened during the war than anything else.
This has more to do with Bioware writing a space opera than it does with "every other human you meet" having a believable or probable stance on aliens.
Human nature what it is, it's simply naive to imagine more people wouldn't be more like Ashley. If not considerably more hostile.
You know, part of that has always bugged me a little. Do most Turians seem to type to just open fire before negotiating?
I definitely got the impression that most (not Garrus) Turians weren't the 'shoot first ask questions later' type and that they'd at least transmit the humans some Miranda rights before blasting them away... or arresting them... or whatever the law-abiding-enforcing police aliens would normally do.
edit: what I forgot to add was it seems almost like the First Contact Wars were written with the Krogan in mind as enforcers and not the Turians.
Turians are also the species that deployed the Genophage without so much as a by your leave. Given the Codex entries on the Turian military outlook, yes they strike me as exactly the type to open fire.
they're not as bad as the Salarians, who's military philosophy seems to be "If they even think about shooting at you, kill them."
Salarians' and Turians' idea of "helping" the Krogan was to use them as cannon fodder and then, when the Krogan got too uppity, implement a long-term genocide against them. And given how fast humans have come up in the galaxy, it'll only be a matter of time until it's decided they're too uppity as well and a solution to the Human Question will be needed as well.
The Quarians built a race to use as slave labor then, as soon as one of them displayed sentience, decided not to free them but to murder all of them.
A little (lot) human caution before jumping onto the "all aliens are awesome and humans are bad for being wary" is called for. Just assuming outside cultures are benevolent is why there's no Aztec Empire around today.
Normally I think the paragon choices lead to better outcomes in the loyalty missions, but yesterday I discovered that (Jacob loyalty quest spoliers)
Jacob's renegade ending is way better.
Even though renShep is being his usual dickish self ("we can spare the ammo" - classy), Jacob does the right thing and allows his dr moreau dad to shoot himself. Far better than the paragon ending with the older taylor going to jail - it just felt like the whole thing was left unresolved.
What I want in ME3 is to be able to collect volus like Pokemon and feed them designer biotic enhancing drugs to create a stable of a variety of biotic gods.
That would be terribly fun. Sort of like the Varren pit fights on tuchanka, only with Volus and alot more heavy breathing noises.

Okay, come on, that's just BS. The turians didn't decide the krogan got "uppity". They decided to use the genocide after something like 200 years of the krogan conquering every God Damn system they could find!
I've realized I'm excited about when we'll start seeing ME3 media, just so I can narrow down ny thoughts on where they might be going with the story. End of a trilogy makes it exciting since the gloves can come right off.

Kaiden is kind of a douche. I haven't seen if Ashley is any better. It'll come back in ME3, but needless to say, I plan on being a dick to Kaiden in that.
Salarians' and Turians' idea of "helping" the Krogan was to use them as cannon fodder and then, when the Krogan got too uppity, implement a long-term genocide against them. The Quarians built a race to use as slave labor then, as soon as one of them displayed sentience, decided not to free them but to murder all of them.
Both of these items are false, actually.
The genophage was not intended for genocide and did not cause a genocide. It in fact caused no deaths, it simply causes fetuses to be stillborn by not developing. Also all it did was reset the Krogan birth rate to be equal to their death rate. Mordin directly states that their population had actually begun increasing again until he and his team did some fiddling.
The quarians didn't build a race for slave labor, they built machines to perform jobs. It would be like your toaster suddenly asking if it had a soul, some people were shocked. Not even all the quarians responded in that fashion (it took a couple bad apples to panic the herd). When you speak with Legion and ask if the recording he played was the first time that Geth ever asked if they had a soul, he responds with something like "No, that was the first time they responded with fear."

Ashley is also a douche. Basically "You've betrayed us by working with Cerberus, I don't care your reasons, and I'm not going to try to talk it out."
So I started a new game on insanity, and Jacob is a moron. Doing the first mission and he happily vaults over a crate into zero cover where he gets mauled by robot dogs and shot by robots. I res him, he stands there and dies again.

right, so after thinking about it a bit they decided to murder all of them.
and I mean, if we downgrade the term we use for the genophage from "genocide" to "ethnic cleansing," it doesn't really get any better.

Ashley at least apologizes after. The email she sends was all about how she was so shocked to see you and how she hadnt let herself think about when you had sex in a year blah blah romance love blah blah. But Kaidan, man Kaidan, if you romanced him as a femshep, he is a total asshole. The email he sends after basically mocks you and insinuates your "oh so special night" meant absolutely nothing to him

I really really hope ME3 deals with the Quarians and Geth extensively. They're definitely one of the most interesting unresolved issues in the ME universe that's not directly trying to destroy everything.
Tuchanka under Wrex feels like it's slowly getting its act together as well. The two Krogan talking about one's son was really saddening to listen to, since it showed them as a lot more then a warrior race for once.
Also it's been said a lot but meeting Wrex also just gives me a warm feeling.

No it doesn't because that doesn't make any sense to change it to. They didn't carry out a war of extinction after the already used the genophage. It's not like they were killing all krogan because krogan arent as good as white people. They were doing it so all the white, black, blue, dinosaur, jellyfish and environment suit people didnt die.

Build the strawman, knock it down, doesn't change the facts. No one died from the genophage, and the Krogan aren't going extinct because of it.

I don't really want to kill any of the characters I don't like. Except possibly Jack, just because she's clearly incredibly dangerous to the rest of the galaxy. I just want to call them idiots.

Even Wrex says as much in ME1 - the genophage makes it hard to breed, but it's not what's killing the Krogan.

If I had Jacob in the vents, Miranda as the biotic and Zaeed leading a sqaud would any of the other squad members die? I just want to purge my ship of Cerebus on my paragon insanity run. Also going to take Legion around for a bit, best character in the game.

Build the strawman, knock it down, doesn't change the facts. No one died from the genophage, and the Krogan aren't going extinct because of it.
no one has to be killed for ethnic cleansing to take place, either. But go ahead, invent whatever term you like for "prevent a population from growing or rebuilding their culture and maroon them on a desolate, infertile landscape to fight amongst themselves."
This is really the whole problem with the krogan mess; every step along the way can be justified in absolutist terms. "We had to use the krogan to defeat the rachni." "We had to give them a dozen fertile planets to repay them." "We had to use the genophage to stop the krogan rebellions." And so on.
And then you get to the end of the chain and you realize an entire race has been treated worse than humans treat the animals we kill for food.
It would be different if the salarians or anyone else showed any sign that they felt like they had any obligation to help the krogan actually recover and join the galactic community. But no, they're content to just let them sit on their rock. What do you think they'll do if wrex is successful and the krogan actually start rebuilding?

The admiral Quarian who is in the right is a massive dick, whereas those proposing a fairly terrible position come off as likeable.
A nice bit of nuance.
I'd really like to know what your opinions on who is right are. Because Admiral Morrigan is certainly likeable
Of the three Admirals.
You have the pro war male one, who wants to go back and try to kick the shit out of the geth.
The on the bench woman, who despite disagreeing with the above is totally okay with experimenting on live geth, and believes the geths rightful place is as slaves to the Quarians.
And Qwib Qwib who sees the Geth as sapient beings, and thinks they should be left alone, and the Quarians can find another homeworld.
The latter is morally the right choice, and seemingly only tactically feasible one as well. The only real argument against it is ‘oh it might take a few generations to acclimatise to the new world, so we won’t see it’. Which you know, isn’t worth the inevitable mountain of corpses that would result from regaining their homeworld. On both sides.

Um, I pretty much thought that there really isn't that many Spectre's either.
I do have a question about the second book and ME2.
I would really like to direct a space battle from the bridge of the Normandy via conversation options (i.e. orders) to the crew.
EDIT: Ideally it would work more like a mini-simulation of the battle rather then a set of branching dialog options.
The Normandy's cargo holds are so empty. So much space for volus like this one.
Even though renShep is being his usual dickish self ("we can spare the ammo" - classy), Jacob does the right thing and allows his dr moreau dad to shoot himself. Far better than the paragon ending with the older taylor going to jail - it just felt like the whole thing was left unresolved.
Outside of Mr 'the geneva convention should be ignored, don't these people understand war is hell!' He can have someone read it for him.

Squad AI is great.

I've got a spare copy of Portal, if anyone wants it message me.

I really really hope ME3 deals with the Quarians and Geth extensively. They're definitely one of the most interesting unresolved issues in the ME universe that's not directly trying to destroy everything.
Also it's been said a lot but meeting Wrex also just gives me a warm feeling.
Also I don't understand your list. Miranda, well maybe - but Thane? Jacob? Really?
Even Wrex says as much in ME1 - the genophage makes it hard to breed, but it's not what's killing the Krogan.
Jack just needs your help.
