My hair is a beast and refuses to obey my commands.
I was born with curly hair that eventually grew straight over time. Now it's not straight as a board, it still has some curl in it but overall it's straight. It's just frizzy and stupid, and I don't know what to do.
I was suggested to use some fancy dancy shampoo or something but I can't afford that. What's some nice shampoo/conditioner I could use to keep the frizz down and my hair controllable that doesn't cost me my kidneys? My hair is perfect the first 15 minutes or so after I wash it and dry it but afterwards it just gets messy.
I typically just wash, dry and go. I don't style my hair and I really don't know how.
I use pantene now, just some volume boosting stuff. I've think I've tried anti-frizz stuff in the past but if I did, it didn't work.
Stop boosting volume.
How long is your hair?
I've had really good luck with wax based hair product. I have two different ones from Bed Head that I like.

Shoulder length, I could use a haircut but just a trim. It's layered at the bottom for body.
I got thin hair.
Ever tried using a straightening iron? (also known as straighteners, or flat irons). I recommend you get one that has ceramic plates, as this really helps to de-frizz your hair. Go ahead and google it if you're not sure what I'm talking about.
They range anywhere from $15-$100, I found mine in wal-mart, but you should be able to pick one up in any place that sells hair products.
I have super curly hair, but these things help keep my hair nice and straight all day! (Unless I get rained on of course.)

I own one, but since my hair is basically straight already I never use it. I don't know if it's ceramic or not, pretty sure it's metal. Came with a curling iron set.
It rains here all the time though, I got like hats and stuff but just the humidity can make it frizz out.
The only thing I know what to do is brush and blow dry it again but that would be like every hour, and I'd only make my hair crispy.
I'm a country girl trying to keep a city boy impressed.
I got hats and an umbrella and I use them.
And I'll look into those bed head and john frieda products next time I'm at the store. I'm concerned that I'll end up buying something expensive that the humidity would render a waste of my time but there's only one way to find out.
Sorry if I am a little dense, I just brush and go. I really don't know how anything about styling products.
Is this basically the same thing as sticking gel in my hair? Or is it just something I stick in and my hair just doesn't frizz up anymore?
You scoop out an amount (experiment with how much, start small), rub it into over your hands, run hands through hair, and brush it through.
If it works, yay. If it doesn't, I'm so sorry.

XD I guess if I can't figure that out I would be in some dire situation. Yeah I'm just being especially dense right now. I'll look at the wax stuff.
Me and my girlfriend(who has really nice hair) use fructis shampoo and conditioner. It's a little more expensive but you can find it on sale sometimes. Also, she puts in some kind of detangler spray every night, John frieda Root Awakening. then she uses Tresemme thermal creations it looks like. She brushes her hair every night and straightens it or uses a curling iron on it most every day. She normally has wavy hair that gets tangled really easy, so this might be the solution for you.

First thing you need to do is find someone to cut your hair that's really good with curls. Second, I'd REALLY recommend the Bumble & Bumble Curl Conscious line of products. I used to reception in a salon and I've never seen women happier with a product. I know they sell it at Rudy's in Seattle (you're outside of the city, right?). If you go with cheap product, your hair is going to look like shit.

But I have short hair and am not a person who very much cares for these things.

But humidity is your enemy here, not much you can do about that.
I'm literally just imagining melting a candle on my head or some kind of hair gel like product so what exactly is wax in this sense?

(most products will cost you $10 a pop, but its pretty good stuff, it might help with the humidity and what not)
If it rains a lot, invest in a large cowboy hat?

which are similar but still different.
So the key words for me are paste, wax, and clay.
