Oh hey guys, it's mass effect 2! Still!

The simple FAQ for the endgame:
Why did my men die?

You picked Zaeed.

What if all my men died including Shepard?

You can't make an ME3 game with that data.

How do I not make my men die?

Pick Garrus as the squad leader, Legion as the tech, anybody to lead back the crew, Samara to be the biotic, and Garrus as the squad leader.

When does the endgame start?
2 missions after completing the Reaper IFF mission. You have time to do Legion's loyalty mission and one other story mission.

SUPER SPECIAL BONUS LINKS!!!

MASS EFFECT 1 SAVE FILES
Pissed off that Bioware won't let you choose how to make a new shepard? Want to get the benefits of an imported Shep but want to save the council? Check out: http://www.annakie.com/me/home.htm

They have compiled a lot of ME1 save files, so you can download and import them over. This is very useful for anyone who has burned their ME1 files to the ground and salted them.

MASS EFFECT 2 FACE CODES

Did you know you can input a code at the bottom of the character customization screen and it will make a face? This is how you can share your horrendous (or beautiful) Shep with the world! A collection of such codes is found here:

http://www.masseffect2faces.com/

For example, the code for Munkus' Female Shepard face is: 743.W9G.1M7.F8A.JDQ.62Q.1DA.711.966.413.2G6.276

there's no 100% failsafe method. my picks were completely different and I made it through without a loss. some people have picked the same in the original post and lost guys and same with the ones I picked. don't like what happened? well congratulations to the amazing world of saved games.

You have two options for each one. I just picked the one I liked the most.

Miranda can also lead. Tali can also be a tech. Jack can also be the biotic.

And I've heard that jacob can lead.

    But outside of that, nope.

it also a good idea to pick mordin to send back, unless you use him in your squad. For some reason he seems to have a higher chance of eating it, even if loyal

    As I understand it...

Squad Leader can be any of Miranda, Garrus, or Jacob.
The person you tell to lead back can be anyone as long as they are loyal.
Tech Specialist can be either Legion or Tali.
Biotics can be either Jack or Samara.

In the interest of talking about something other than endgame squad choices for a minute,
I love the part where you play as Joker. I mean it's not especially complex or impressive in a splashy way, but it's a great bit of psycho-drama that really ramps up the tension. Plus Joker is hilarious.

I wonder if we'll see any more small scenes played from the perspective of other characters in ME3? It's kind of cool to be someone other than Shepard the Almighty for a couple minutes.

and the whole point is that luck really doesn't factor in unless you don't have everyone loyalty or make the wrong choices.

Mordin is the exception, as people have found that for some reason he tends to die if not sent back or taken on the team, loyal or not, correct choices or not

    for the last mission
I chose Jacob as the other team leader the second time my group split up. When we regrouped, there was a little bit where Jacob seemed to have been shot in the gut, but he shrugged it off and lived. Maybe Jacob might have a better chance of living as the leader than other characters, but not as good as Garrus or Miranda?

There was a bioware post about it. Think of the final choice of who to bring with you to the Reapinator as choosing who will stay behind and watch your back. So if you, say, bring Garrus and Grunt with you, then you're risking losing more people by taking away a dude who can hold off massive amounts of troops for weeks and an invincible defense machine.

there is no luck involved, it's all by the numbers, just you can't always see them. You will not lose your tech expert if you have Garrus/Miranda/Jacob leading the team and Legion/Tali in the vents. You won't lose someone from the biotic group if Jack or Samara are doing the shield. You will not lose Moridin if you have good "hold the line" stats holding the line.

    An explanation, by Bioware
Under the hood, each character has a "hold the line" score, which gets a bonus if the character is loyal. Characters like Mordin, Jack and Tali are squishy and not experienced with bunkering down and holding out for an extended period of time. Characters like Grunt and Zaeed are tanks who thrive on this type of work. The score is tallied for all the team members that are holding the line, and the number of survivors are calculated. If people are to die, the non-loyals squishies go first through the list to the loyal tanks. Alas, I think Mordin is at the head of the death list. Some characters can't survive without help even if they are loyal. Others can survive even if not loyal.

Here are some examples for the group holding the line:
Loyal Mordin by himself: He can't hold the line by himself. He dies.
Non-loyal Grunt by himself: Grunt lives. He hunkers down and gets the job done, and doesn't have to worry about helping any one else.
Loyal Mordin and non-Loyal Grunt: Grunt dies, but Mordin lives. Grunt is able to hold the line but goofs up helping Mordin... he was just too aggressive without his right of passage.
Loyal Mordin and Loyal Grunt: They both live.

Note it is possible to get non-loyal henchmen to survive through the end game with the proper group holding the line.

So what is a good strategy? Send back a loyal squishy with the crew, like Mordin or Tali. Leave your defensive bad asses to hold the line (hmmm, Garrus defended a base all by himself to an extended period of time....) and take your loyal offensive favorites with you to the end.

As for saving Kelly and the crew, you just need to make sure you go through the Omega-4 relay right after the crew is taken, and make sure you send a loyal squad mate back as an escort.

In "she's in my party mode" she can fuck shit up but she's a glass cannon.

If I stick with the shotgun will I ever be able to use Grunt's version of it?

Also, my girlfriend is pissed that I keep screwing up the name of Grunt by calling him Wrex. More so after I went on about how well drawn, animated and developed he was.
