Free file recovery software SOLVED

My hard drive with all my important data (pictures, save games, pr0n, etc) is broken. The drive appears to be operationally sound, it has just had something go sideways, possibly related to partitioning. BIOS detects the drive and so does windows if I go through disk management...but disk management only shows the disk present, it doesn't show the disk as formatted.

Recovery software like Stellar Phoenix Data Recovery and Recover My Files can scan the disk and they show all my missing files, but those silly geese want $70 to activate their software. Conveniently, they only let you know you need to pay to activate their stuff AFTER they've done the two hour scan.

Anyway, there's got to be a program out there that recovers files that won't make me miss my car payment this month. Help?

I've had good luck with Recuva.

Here's the one that worked for me:

EASEUS Partition Master. It was fairly quick, and maintained, as far as I could tell, the original folder structure. Best of all, didn't try to tell me after doing an hours-long scan that I needed to pay to get my files.

Just an FYI, the ones that did pull that shitty trick were:

    Recover My Files
    Stellar Phoenix
    Pareto

    Avoid those like the plague.
