I rebuilt my DH just to kill Bahamut and his stupid sniper friend(Lustre) and his stupid heavy and that motherfucking pyro.

So I installed starcraft yesterday via downloading it from battle.net, ran into a bit of trouble getting the download to finish, and now TF2 is an unplayable slideshow of a game, where my latency is bouncing between normal and 900

What
Starcraft 1 or 2? (make sure none of the files have the same file name, I remember reading bout this earlier.)

The first one
Why would any of the files have the same name as tuftoo?
As long as we're tossing terrible Engineer ideas around, why not resurface the nailgun idea. Here's my spin on it.
It is a rivet gun, not a nail gun, and is hitscan. :P
It replaces the shotgun, you sacrifice personal survivability for the survivability of your machines.
It will function combat wise similarly to the spy's revolver. Maybe a little more damage and fall off, whatever. However each shot consumes metal, so you are discouraged from spamming it like you can the pistol.
Shooting equipment repairs it, and can remove sappers.

That's an interesting idea. Opens up a few options for the engineer. He'd still have to babysit, but now he's got a baby monitor. Being able to repair at range could keep him a safe distance from the action, which makes up for the lack of a shotgun.
I don't see how that helps. Most maps have pretty small fighting arenas.. if it's a sapper that's the problem, it's usually just as easy for the engineer to run over and hit the gear with his wrench. If the engineer doesn't have line of sight on his gear, the repair gun is pointless.. he'd still have to spend time running back to his nest.
It also introduces the idea of putting the sentry out in the open somewhere, and building a dispenser someplace safe. Stand next to dispenser and shoot your sentry.. engineer can repair without being in any danger. All this could be tuned, but I don't think it does anything to eliminate turtling.
I think the proper direction for Valve to go in is come up with a way for engineers to not be bothered when stuff gets destroyed. If you break their "gotta keep my stuff up!" mentality, they will start to take a lot more risks, and not waste time turtling up.

I don't know about you, but if I'm building a defense base, and I'm even just a short walk to my gun, that is a very vulnerable time for the engineer who has to get within melee range of his gun to fix it. Spies can ambush you, soldiers and demos and everything can easily tell where you're going to go, etc. It's part of the tied down feeling, I think. (I don't play defensive engi much).
As for putting the sentry somewhere out in the open and hiding with a dispenser, the simple fact that you'd have to reload your gun would be enough to allow anything with explosives to take out your gun even easier than if you were right on it constantly repairing it. You might be able to keep it up briefly, but, I doubt it would be anything more serious than if the engineer were camping right behind it.
I agree with your last point though.

Maybe a fall-back weapon of some sort whose usefulness increases whenever you're not busy maintaining your buildings. Damage is inversely proportional to the number of buildings you have up.
Someone had talk of a wrench that would be critz for a brief period of time after one of your fully built machines were destroyed. I liked that idea.
So what.. 200% crits then? It kills the guy you hit, and his next closest buddy too?
If there's anything the wrench needs, it's not more crits.
It made me imagine a scenario in which an engie hits someone with this legendary wrench so hard that his closest buddy on his friends list, who is playing on an entirely different server, dies.

The whole character switching aspect made me think of Trine. If this was fleshed out to include all 9 classes then some really interesting puzzles could be cooked up.

Pyro can run through flames. Engineer ???. Sniper can make precision shots on rope to drop platforms. Spy can cloak past enemies. Heavy can run through walls. Demoman can make long sticky jumps. Medic can run through poison clouds???. Scout can survive long falls by doublejumping at the bottom. Soldier can make high rocket jumps.
You know, it would be interesting if the engineer update allowed engineers to be able to bypass an enemy sentry gun with an unlockable. Something like the Demo's targe, possibly making it so you can't shoot while using it. It could even replace one of their guns, probably the pistol. It would create a new dynamic where if you see an engineer with his shield out, you want to make sure to take him down before he gets past the front lines.
The engineer would obviously still have to get past the other defenders fighting around the gun. But if you did, you could build teleporters past turtling points in attack/defend or control point maps. Or even just harass the defenders by ninja'ing control point like spies do. And you'd be weaker by having to leave one of your guns behind, so going it alone would be risky.
Would a side-scroller be feasibly made using the Source Engine?
Of course. Beyond the code of actually making a fun side scroller, it's just a question of changing the camera position and altering your mapping style to suit.
I guess eventually you'd run into map size problems, side scroller levels tend to be quite a bit longer than FPS maps. But I have no idea where the upper limit is and it may not be a real concern.

Don't forget, it has to screw over the pyro somehow. So tack on 30% less fire damage.

this is what you did wrong

I don't know. Maybe B.net has some funky services that don't shut down properly due to the Beta nature.

Soldiering tips helped a lot, especially nixing the Direct Hit. Thanks for that.

Kind of like an Equalizer for engies.

Someone who liked my avenger?
Bring ruin upon those who brought ruin to you
This would be one of the worst things ever
If there is anything melee in general and wrenches in particular needs less of, it's crits

Like a spy being invisible would make approximately this much more sense.

I would play a side scrolling TF2 puzzler. Played Trine with a friend last week, really fun coop.
