Damn it why did I look at this thread. STO seems like it's improving... is the level/episode design improved though? I do miss the space combat, but ground combat in the raidisodes (and the awards you could get) were positively mind numbing and tedious. I assume all the refits are C-store purchases?
Is the level cap increased yet? Maybe I'll jump in again on Burton and Gimli for old times.

Ok, so, when you level up with a Federation guy to the next tier, you get a free new ship. Do you not get free new ships with the Klingons?
Edit: Nevermind, had to log in and back out and it worked fine.

Honestly the Season 2 update might be enough to draw me back in. Hell, I'm tampted to start a new character just to do some of the diplomatic missions from the get go, the rewards seem quite nice. I don't remember them off the cuff, but they're personal bonuses that allow you to do some pretty cool stuff.
The diplomatic leveling rewards are primarily the ability to transwarp to new places. At the top level you get to vote with other players on a system to add to the list. The Excelsior class that is coming also has the innate ability to transwarp all over, though they are hinting it will be an imperfect transwarp.
The diplomatic missions are IMO a great start on a non-combat oriented system. Fluidic space is awesome, though I'm less a fan of the missions there than elsewhere--I like the ground game a lot but don't like fighting these UH tier Undine. The two new Borg missions are choice.
The Klingons are getting dedicated content finally, actually from all reports they are getting a better set than Feds this time around. The screenshots and spoilers coming out of that look awesome. And the reward for finishing the whole chain is apparently a Bat'leth with a custom skin (Sword of Kahless replica or something) that scales damage with player level.

Well, look at that... I try to run the updater to patch (which I haven't done since.... Pre-Episode 1) and there's a new patch today that's keeping the servers off-line for a few hours.

I think I'm going to resub to this until FFXIV comes out. Do we still have a fleet?
Since NCSoft is giving me the run around about my GW's account, and I have a LTS for this, I may jump on and level a new char to see if anything has changed.

I will be logging into this once the server goes up on my good old Ferengi Cap from launch. I have no idea what rank he is. All I know is he was a professional badass.

It's a regular sized one I mailed to him from my Klingon.
[edit] It just looks big because a bat'leth is apparently the size of a short ferengi.
Its pretty cool that the season 2 update is out now. Too bad I just got STARCRAFT 2 and may never play STO again. Between SC2, League of Legends, and the forthcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic, the chances of me ever logging back into STO are steadily decreasing. Shame too, because I was fully intending on getting back to this again before everything started coming out all at once.
Its just too hard to keep up with the new stuff, let alone months old games that were very mediocre at best.

Luckily, I'm too broke to afford Starcraft 2 (as much as I want to play singleplayer), and I have this unopened 60day timecard on my desk...

I can't wait to get my first actual science ship.
Which is half a level away, but I forgot completely how this game works. Also, when I logged in, I got accolades and weird messages for a solid minute.

Considering I haven't played since... 3 or 4 weeks after launch, I can't wait to see what accolades I get.
I bet it's gonna be like in City of Heroes when vet awards went live.
I've got buddy keys if anyone is interested. Honestly I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of those "All good things" Enterprise D ships...
Also, I'm going to try to start playing more regularly again. My son has become much better at sleeping at night, and my wife has gone back to her book reading. I'm going to be working on my Commander 1 Science officer though. Once I get him up to Vice Admiral I'll go back and level up the engineer and the tactical guy. It's my opinion that when looking for groups a science officer who specializes in healing is a hot, hot commidity, so I'm trying focus on that.
I'm going to resub for a bit, try it out once more. Last I remember, I was at rear admiral Engineering and I haven't done much of the Borg chains.

Yeah, logging in and going from Captain 2 to Captain 4 just from accolades was pretty sweet.
Though I think I might be best to start a new character from scratch to see what they added. Plus I still need to make a Klingon character.

Dunno... Lottery?
So here's an interesting bug... Deletion of a character causes the game to crash. On the plus side, logging back in confirms that the character was deleted but both times I deleted my Jr. officers after I typed in their name for conformation and pressed OK, the client crashed.
Just started playing this again, I never got past LC2 (sci/sci) before I quit at release, but I'm loving the game now that I can autofire my cruiser's beams and just fly in big slow circles around bad guys cycling my defense buffs until everything pops.
I'm having trouble finding information on actual game mechanics, though. I've tried the official forums and a few STO wikis, but I can't find out just how much EPS consoles help with weapon energy levels. Am I better off with two EPS consoles, one EPS console and one weapon power console, or two weapon power consoles? I don't mind running numbers myself, I just can't find out how to run the numbers in the first place.
I'm also wondering which BO weapons have the best expose chance, and if any BO powers cause exposes, or if that's just captain powers.
I dont remember the numbers behind it, but I do know they nerfed EPS pretty hard at one point because people were stacking them. I haven't played since the 2nd month of release, so I'm as lost as you are when it comes to theorycrafting.
As far as weapons/skill to give to your away team (again, unless anything has changed, which there's a good chance it has), I always used the loadout of all science team members, spamming Expose abilities and carrying AOE expose weapons. I then carried 2 split beams and hit "1", til I saw an expose and then mashed "2".
I do remember that right after I left there were grumblings of a "shared secondary fire cooldown" making it impossible to "secondary fire/switch/secondary fire" quickly. So if this is the case, then disregard.
I'm probably going to start a Fed from scratch here soon and relearn some stuff before jumping back on my BG Klingon.
They did add a cooldown before you can use your second exploit attack, but it's still worthwhile to carry a couple of split beam rifles, the cooldown is only 2 or 3 seconds.
How do I figure out which science BO abilities are exposes? I don't see anything in the tooltips at the skill trainer, and every BO ability list I've found doesn't mention exposes.

I am so confused by this game. I'm only level 10 and I've legitimately forgotten so much. I oughta start a character from scratch to re-learn it, only I love my Ferengi Science-man so much.
I also noticed they seemed to have changed how auto fire works for whatever option you pick (maintain etc)
Do a lotto for that DDE :P

And I'm doing the same in starting a new character from scratch.
It also looks like they added in Memory Alpha crafting tacking progress. About damn time.

The new Galaxy model is sex. I also did some diplomacy missions, but I guess I need more diplomacy xp before I'm allowed into the Diplomatic Corps. Apparently some nebula missions give that xp.
I ran some of the Klingon content last night and holy shit, it's pretty much the best stuff in the game. Attended a Klingon funeral which was ambushed by a rival house and before I knew it was fighting back to back with Worf against the invaders, then once they were gone I was ordered to take a fleet and go attack that House's planet and eradicate them. And that was just a piece of it.
Science officers who know how to heal are definitely in demand, especially on the STFs. Don't forget your Hypo-D and Bat'leth, too.
EPS Consoles are not needed at all anymore unless you switch your energy distribution during combat or want your weapons online quickly after dropping full impulse. They don't do anything but improve transfer rates between systems.
For exposes, the chances are pretty much always 10% per hit, so the ones that are AOE or fire faster (pistols) are usually the preferred ones. Powers that expose are the same on BOs or your character. Pretty much all of the science powers that target an enemy or group are exposes.
They changed the font in this patch, yes.
You get diplomacy exp for doing the exploration missions that don't involve combat (yes, scanning 5 things is diplomacy now for some reason). Once you hit 160, you get a new contact that will start pointing you at diplomacy opportunities, but they are basically the ones you already had. Later on he'll start giving you first contact missions, which are worth a variable amount depending on how well you do. There are also the 5 diplomacy missions you can get by going to the right systems.

The systems with static Diplomacy missions are: Vulcan (on the planet), Bajor (in space), Starbase 39, and Memory Alpha (there are five that start here.)
What the sweet jesus happened with the Jem'Hadar? Or however you spell it. Before the patch they were reasonably easy on the ground. Now though one of them is doing something and it's effectively taking out my Boff's (and me) in groups. I actually tone it down now to normal when i'm doing a ground portion with them in. All the other factions i'm happy enough to continue on Elite though.
