Anyways, since servers are down, I thought I'd ask a question.

Running vista, my Beta only launches from the 'play' button you get at the install of the game. If I try to launch via the exe or the shortcut, I get a black screen that then proceeds to stay forever unless I shut down my computer. Hell, doesn't let me minimize to properly Ctrl Alt Delete either!

Mmmm, doesn't sound like a Vista specific problem. I'm running it no problems from the shortcut with vista 64-bit.

Running 64-bit as well, but was figuring it was worth a shot. Yeah, I have no idea what the issue is, but it's perfectly fine if I just never close the application. Considering it doesn't slow down anything else and I always use 'hibernate' over 'shut down,' I think I should be fine.

    Ish.

    Blizzcast 13, SC2 Beta special
    http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/community/blizzcast/archive/episode13.html

On the map editor and Beta length:
Rob Simpson: The new Galaxy Map Editor won't be available initially in beta, but what can people expect when they finally get their hands on it and when would you guys like that to be?

Chris Sigaty: So the editor is something that we're talking a lot about. We would like to potentially release it in what we're calling our major content patch update that's planned for pretty late in the beta to be honest with you. The question really is, will it be far enough along and in a spot where we can allow people to look at it and publish and will we have enough time to react to that? So it's something we're looking at closely. We've discussed it, but I can't say that it will or will not happen at this point, I don't know. It's a goal, but on the periphery of whether it will happen or not, that's probably my best answer to that. What we hope to get from having the editor out there early is get some people started on some cool ideas for maps so that when the game launches they can have some cool stuff up very quickly on the service basically, so that other players can download it and have some other options out there. We feel like we're going to hit a lot of the cases that players would have not only with just their multiplayer maps but we will have some cool mod maps that we're going to do on our own, but they're largely just glimpses at things rather than entire answers. The earlier we can get the community started, the better, it's just the time window is shorter than we have talked about.

You haven't asked this question yet, but I'll answer it ahead of time. We were targeting three to five months for the beta, we're really at a three month period of time for the beta at this point. We are still targeting the first half of this year, so with that in mind, it really shortens the window of time with our major content patch coming out pretty close to the end whether it's even worth it putting out the map editor at that point.

Something they pointed out in the podcast that hadn't occurred to me was that the queen has the ability to restore a huge amount of HP to any zerg unit or structure, including spine crawlers and spore crawlers. I hadn't thought of using it that way before, but that could be worth saving some energy for instead of automatically spending it all on larvae.

No see in order to keep up with protoss and terran production you HAVE to use spawn larva whenever possible.

So yes transfusion would be nice, if you ever had the energy for it(you will never have the energy for it).

Looks like Feedback is back in the game, except on Templars instead of Dark Archons now. Dunno if it comes with Templars as soon as they spawn or you have to research it.

I'm wondering what the range it has. If it can compete with the range of EMP then Protoss now has a way of dealing with EMP. Really is a shoot out though, who can EMP/Feedback faster. Not that that sort of thing is unfamiliar, had a similar deal with Science Vessels vs Arbiters in SC1.

Feedback being on Templars instead of Dark Archons sounds huge though, Feedback is so goddamn good. Unless they've changed it's energy cost.
