I love it when the Blizz community surprises me. Just had a long sc2 2v2 game where we fought all over the map, I sucked as usual, underproducing as hell. Eventually my team loses and my teammate lost his shit and cursed me up and down in all chat, then called me a fucking noob before leaving. Me and the guy killing my base had a chat about how funny it is how seriously people take the game and how upset they get when they lose, and how just relaxing and enjoying the game is so much better than doing what he did.
He should save himself the pain of playing with all the horrible newbs and give me his account. Track him down and suggest that. I'm like an angel of the internet in this way.

Jesus watching that newest HDStarcraft video was hilarious. His team mate was horrible in the strangest ways. He knew how to play the game, he built properly (sort of) he just did the dumbest things.

I would defend him by saying he was experimenting with high level units, but even then he played really poorly.

My plan is to get into a 2v2 with a good player and just spam creep and spore/spike colonies. Because they can now walk I can creep my creep into people's expansions and just quietly zergify them with mah buildins.
When he had the mothership and he dropped the chronosphere I felt pretty bad for HDStarcraft that his team mate manged to find a way to be useless with one of the best units in the game. I can't believe no one ever really made any AA though, the entire game no one on either side had AA.

He didn't even know about the Chrono Boost. He had 100 energy on both of his Nexus without using CB once.
People are angry about having to buy the three games because they know they'll buy the three games.
The main thing that irks me about it is that if I understand it right, say you have no interest in the single player at all so choose not to buy the first expansion; because paying for one or two new MP units seems like a bad idea, you're then cut off from playing in MP with everyone who does buy the expansion (ie: 99% of people), right?

Save up now, gentlemen!
So beta key prices on ebay have dropped a hundred bucks the last couple of days.
When it hits $50 I'm buying one.

What people are really raging about is that they have some abstract sense of what "a game" should cost, regardless of how much content that game actually contains or how much entertainment they'll get from it :<

Just like how people who were only interested in Starcraft multiplayer still had to buy Broodwar, Warcraft 3 multiplayer had to buy Frozen Throne, etc etc.
I for one don't mind because I plan on enjoying both the single and multiplayer, and the metagame changes that usually come with new units can be interesting.

That is how a multiplayer expansion works, yes. You seem to be operating under the impression that these are primarily singleplayer releases but they've made it clear that they will both be full expansions - the only difference is that instead of the retail game and the expansion each having a short campaign for each race like in Starcraft, they'll be devoting each release to a single race for SC2.

I'm sure Blizzard at one point said you won't have to buy the other campaigns to play multiplayer, but I have always doubted this is the case.

I wonder if they discussed a WoW approach, where the changes to the game mechanics (or in this instance the MP) are patched in for free but the actual content for the expansion (the bulk of it, like the SP in the SC2 expansions) requires you to buy the expansions to have access to?
I can see myself buying all three because I enjoyed the SP in SC and BW, buy buying two expansions purely so you still have people to play with in MP seems a bit harsh. DoW did stand alone expansions where you only had access to the content you'd bought but could still play against people who had bought other things, but I can't remember if they were adding new units to the existing races by these later expansions or just adding new races.

I don't know what a full expansion means in terms of how much new MP content will be added in comparison to the SP content.

I'd love to see that quote.
Honestly I can't see them giving multiplayer people free units in a patch when the expansion hits. Vanilla will play with vanilla. Expansion1 with expansion1. Expansion2 with expansion2.
At least, that's historically how it's gone and I can't see them releasing an expansion in any other way.
If I buy StarCraft II but don't buy any of the expansion sets, will I still be able to play online?
Yes. This will work similarly to Warcraft III and the original StarCraft, which maintained separate online gaming lobbies and ladders for expansion set players and players with the base Warcraft III or StarCraft.

I'm saying it'll be roughly the same as Brood War. You could argue that that was also too expensive for multiplayer-only players and maybe it was, but I think almost everybody who was into SC's multiplayer at least beat the campaigns once. I rarely saw anyone complain about it and they only added 7 units and a ton of maps.
I think the main difference in this is perception, announcing two expansions before you've even began a beta of the game is bound to piss people off, especially in a franchise that is much more renowned for it's MP than the SP.

Wings Of Liberty is only the first piece of starcraft 2, theres 2 more games after that.
But if you can get pretty much everything you need from one copy theres no point in buying the others, unless you really like campaigns.
He didn't even know about the Chrono Boost. He had 100 energy on both of his Nexus without using CB once.
I mean, I'm terrible and I know CB is awesome.
why the fuck would they have new units
The only reason they broke it up into a trilogy was because the campaigns were just way too big to sell for 50 bucks
Instead of thinking "trilogy" think "two expansions".
Like... an expansion.
In Broodwar, we got 3 new campaigns and new units.
But in Starcraft 2 each version only comes with 1 campaign for 1 race.
They're going to have additional units in the expansions, just like every other expansion. For the multiplayer, that is.
But the campaigns are each the size of the original three. Like on their own. And they're COOL LOOKIN'.
It's Blizzard. They're angry about having to buy three games because we know it'll be five years between each one
