Apparently games sell better in the US on tuesdays and in the EU on fridays?
That's just the standard release schedules for games in those regions. The only time you see something different is when Nintendo releases something on Sunday.
WTB EU release day - seriously, Tue is a horrible day to get a new game.
I just watched the 2 hour stream of Civ V and I have not wanted a game more than I want it right now.
Before the stream had even finished I had bought the game, and downloaded all the files for pre-load on Steam.
Everything, and I mean everything from the visuals to the changed core mechanics to the UI is beautiful, logical and yet still very, very Civ.
Barring the boxed copies being filled with anthrax, I can't see how this won't be an absolute lock for game of the year. Stupendous, smart and so fresh. I'm so ready to commit the next eleven months of my life to this game.
Huh, I wonder why nobody's tried to find the decryption keys for the preloaded game yet. I mean, we know some of them are XML and PDF and so on, so we should have an idea of their unencrypted content...
Too bad I'm moving that following weekend. Might have to be "sick" one day next week.
Wait, Tuesday? Wut? What??
Civ 5 is coming out on Friday the 24th. Its what it says on steam, i've booked the day off work, and it is also my birthday. What is this heathen talk of tuesday?
Also, England had fucking better get some good units to make up for that shitty special ability. I'm betting on Civ4 pre-patch levels of overpoweredness from the redcoats.
Huh, I wonder why nobody's tried to find the decryption keys for the preloaded game yet. I mean, we know some of them are XML and PDF and so on, so we should have an idea of their unencrypted content...
It's almost certainly AES and you don't break AES in a week. Plus, I think the keys may be unique to each client.

It's also fairly simple to just have a few key missing files in the preload that prevents you from running the game at all until release day.

Well, the manual's been posted on the Civ website:
Effects of Damage
A damaged unit is less effective when attacking than a fully-healed unit. The more damaged
the unit, the less its attack – melee or ranged – will damage an opponent. The actual
formula is more complex than this, but as a general rule a unit’s damage output is reduced
by half the percentage of HPs that it has lost. In other words, a unit that has lost 5 HPs (50%)
has the amount of damage it does reduced by 25%, and the damage a unit that has lost 9
HPs (90%) inflicts, is reduced by 45%.
Seems like this makes japan's trait less ridiculous.

Tuesday in America, Friday in Europe. Same with every game, we get to wait an arbitrary three extra days for no good reason.
England's special units are Longbowmen and Ship of the Line. So yeah, basically being England will be all about the navy it seems. Which does make sense as it's Elizabeth I.
Theres a manual up at the website that lists everything--the longbowmen get 3 range compared to everyone elses 2. The russian krepost looks fucking amazing since you get it so goddamn early.
For those who hate on wonders, the great wall makes enemy units spend 1 extra MP when entering your borders so that means anyone entering your borders is pretty screwed.
The great artist looks to be the best goddamn great person ever with his culture bomb which converts the tile hes on and every tile adjacent to your culture even if its the enemys land. The only negative is the fact that your borders need to be able to connect so you'll need to friggin expand like crazy to protect and use the power.
Too bad I'm moving that following weekend. Might have to be "sick" one day next week.

Well I'm in Australia, but I'm buying it off of the U.S steam store (I don't think australia has a steam store), so how come the release date is the 24th on there? More importantly, why do we still have to put up with this bullshit when they could just release it on the same date for everyone?

Is that spend 1 more MP to get across from their border into yours, or spend an extra MP every time they move while within your borders?

No idea what the deal is with Australia, but the bolded part is something I wholeheartedly agree is bollocks. The fact that you can have paid for the game, and have it installed on your computer, but you are not allowed to start playing for three days after people in the US have started, is fucking ridiculous.

And in Australia, paid the very special price of 79.99 USD.
As we've recently been reminded of, there's no such thing as moderation when it comes to Civ. Civilization V is a brilliant expression of the turn-based strategy game by the undisputed masters of the form. It's a great entry point for newcomers, and veterans will delight in all the wrinkles and refinements. The exchange rate between real life hours and in-game turns is not in your favor, but be prepared to surrender regardless.

That's the price we pay for living in an objectively better part of the world. Deal with it brosef, three days is nothing in the grand scheme of CiV. You're going to be playing this game for an amount of time which can be measured as a significant percentage of your total life.
Early nukes only lower pop, reduce defense, and make fallout. Later nukes (ICBM and Boomer submarines) can destroy cities and kill everything in a 2 hex radius from the detonation hex.
And Russia gets a bonus to Uranium resources.
I rather strongly suspect some parts of the Earth in the first games I play will be a lovely shade of glowing green by the time I'm done. Multiplayer games with multiple nuclear-armed nations would probably look a lot like Defcon.
Holy shit, was that a Mech as a later technology in the Civ V GT review?
Sold!
Its the Giant Death Robot, which I think started out as a joke and was then turned into a "hidden" unit and now officially revealed.

I would like to pause for a moment, to talk about my penis.
My penis is like a toddler. A toddler—who is a perfectly normal size for his age—on a long road trip to what he thinks is Disney World. My penis is excited because he hasn’t been to Disney World in a long, long time, but remembers a time when he used to go every day. So now the penis toddler is constantly fidgeting, whining “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? How about now? Now? How about... now?”
And Disney World is nowhere in sight.

How am I supposed to get anything done ever if I own SC2 and this?
Knowing our luck, no.
How are you supposed to even have time for SC2? I mean, I was looking forward to BLOPS and Fable III, but now that I have Civ 5...
