Yeah, it looks like I'll be converting this cormorant to a salvager as soon as I get into a cruiser. Not nearly as big a difference from my kestrel as I'd hoped for...
I should have frigate IV by tomorrow, then I get to spend a few nights training into cruiser modules. Yay!
I just started making an alt to run Faction Warfare missions as a source of income. (A lot more profitable with less time and effort than L4 missions, btw.) All I need to do to is make a stealth bomber character.
Shit, this is tedious. Noobs, my heart goes out to you.

If you guys are on tonight, you better be in CR. We need all hands on deck, check the war room for info.

As I'm typing this your sig says you're playing company of heroes. Is the fight already over or what? :P
You could paint a room while waiting in a system for a fleet fight to start. Shit I have gone the bathroom or made coffee while I wait for grid to load.
So I'm looking to get in a corp that will help me enjoy EVE more. I've been considering Merch and Dreddit, but as I'm still frequenting high-sec space to train my skills, I'd prefer to avoid a corp that is at war with anyone, so I don't become a target. Any recommendations on a corp to join? Is my rationale for not joining Merch or Dreddit sound? I just found out about the EVE university corp, and I'm considering joining them until I get comfortably trained.
If you're looking to join a corp and are purely concerned about safety, Eve-Uni is a terrible choice. They are almost permanently war-decced.
After learning about their policies too, they've turned into a really shitty choice imo. The whole "no undocking without others" and hurfy attitude is very lame.
Making mistakes and learning from them is the best way to progress in eve. Newbees need to be thrown into the fire and do whatever they want, all with a good support and knowledge base behind them. Sink or swim.
With that said, I strongly disagree with your rationale behind not choosing Merchi or Dreddit. Saying we're all silly geese is cool, but trying to hide in hi-sec away from most danger will bore you out of your mind and lead to burnout quicker than most options.
Thanks for the warning, I saw a group of them at a gate today and I remembered having heard of them, so I was curious.
I'm still a wee child in terms of skill training, so I'm going to train in "the basics" before I make a decision on a corp, but I'll keep in mind what you said. I'm kind of a carebear at heart, prefer co-op play to PVP, and this is usually what has turned me away from EVE in the past. I'm hoping I can either come to embrace the PVP, or find a non-PVP role I can play that I enjoy.
It doesn't seem to me like IT, AAA, Atlas, and Friends can really overwhelm NC.
I mean there is attrition of course, but unless there is a disbandment, how often do major powerblocs really push another one completely out of an area, or into extinction?

Being pushed out of an area happens fairly frequently. Goonswarm, Red Alliance, and Tau Ceti Federation pushed Veritas out of Scalding Pass. Then they pushed Lotka Voltera out of Detorid and Tenerifis. After weathering a counter-attack from Band of Brothers in Tenerifis, they went on to Push Band of Brothers out of Omist, Feythabolis, Querious, and Paragon Soul. Due to a timely defection, they went on to totally evict Band of Brothers from Querious, Period Basis, and Delve for about a year. Also, at one point Mercenary Coalition spearheaded an assault that conquered most of the North, although the pets that they installed failed to maintain those holdings once MC left the area.
Extinction is another matter though. Some of the weaker (willed) alliances shatter from sufficient pressure, although their pieces often reform into new entities with time. Veritas and Lotka Voltera both shattered under the pressure of losing their empires. Mercenary Coalition fell apart when they tried to start working for themselves and made a series of poor strategic decisions. Band of Brothers had their name stolen from them, mostly dissolved after losing their empire, but ended up reforming into a larger alliance called IT. They sort of survived, but they lost their identity in the process of absorbing replacements. Red Alliance largely fractured under internal divisions, becoming Solar, Death, Red Overlord, and a shell of Red Alliance remained. Goonswarm also had their name (and most assets) stolen, but is hanging on and slowly regaining strength (although almost all of the non-Something Awful corps have recently bailed out).
Is Atlas effectively the remnants of Roadkill, Smash and that group of people?
[/lurk]
I think some of them are, but they were part of the smashkill invasion into the drone regions, they got evicted pretty hardcore when the Russians turned around.
Kasanagi:
if your looking for a corp to learn with you might check out mine, evemail me at Cybarite ingame, we're not big but we've got some very vet players, usually the wars we're involved in are occasional merc ops.

If they are composed of smashkill players, I doubt they will be much of a factor in this war. At least in my experience, they were composed of carebears for the most part who will give up after losing a BS or two.

I think only a couple of corps are ex-Smashkill. A great deal many others are from other failed alliances.
But they are big---and if Goons have taught us anything about EVE is sheer numbers can be pretty important.
As much shit as Bobby Atlas gets for being a monkey-faced silly goose that runs away from every fight, Atlas are big, very big. Not to mention they are rolling in cash thanks to all the renters they lord over.
If they can muster up the balls to stay in a protracted fight with the NC, the nodes are in trouble.

~30d from my carrier pilot being ready, then I'm coming back to play. Seems like I won't be bored.

Yeah... GW is relearning how important sheer numbers are right now, they've been giving battleship kills up all night.
Apparently taking all of Cloud Ring's outposts and then sitting around for a month instead of cleaning out Ev0ke when they were hurting wasn't all that great of a game plan.

I'm trying to install and getting "CRC failed in eveonline_127381.7z
The file "???" header is corrupt"
The gods are telling me to play something else.
same shit happened to me. I spent two days downloading this thanks to my awful campus network, and the end result was "corrupt, loltryagain"
I installed the demo from Steam and that seems to work. I don't know if the 'demo' part will come back to bite me on the ass later, but right now it's working.
I reactivated my account for a day and logged on. I can't remember where I was going skill-wise. I know how to fly some Caldari and some Gallente ships. I have a harpy, a crow, some thoraxes and some drakes lying around.
I think it'll take a while before I know what I'm doing... :-)

Unless they changed shit, you'll end up getting a "hay, sign up for a full account" steam window every time you close EVE

It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

OK, I can live with that. It's still weird that the regular installer won't install it, though.
So, re-subbed again. Forgot how complex this game was, but that's not bothering me this time around. I'm just going to get familiar with the game again and take my time. Will probably apply to Merch sometime in the future. But I at least want to have a little experience with the game again before I dive in to the 0.0 deep end.

Do as i say, not as i do. The cry of directors and FC's the whole cluster over.

Goons are dumb. News at eleven.
This is new right? I haven't seen this before.
It's been around since at least some time last year.
Has anybody else had this issue?

DirectX SDK. Install it. CCP fails at programming.
I had this till I upgraded my video drivers.
