I just find the UI -- especially a Drone ship -- to be a bit clunky. Granted, it's fun to just unleash the drones and watch the combat, but I still wanna try standard combat eventually.

You can hot key the basic drone commands, Attack, return and orbit, return to dronebay and passive or aggressive stance, but you still have to click on the damn window to launch the bloody things.
I've been a turret user, cross training from Gallente to Minmatar to use the Hurricane. Now that I've come to a point where I can afford to use a Battleship, I'm wondering what are some recommendations?
Amarr Battleships seem to be very popular, but are they worth cross training for? Any opinions on Minmatar BSes? It would also be awesome if someone would tell me why missiles are so awesome in missions but are claimed to be epic fails in PVP.
Note: I've been playing for 2 months now, but I feel like I'm still new to this game.

Or am I clinging on some non-eve stupidities thinking that I need to be able to see my ship in the middle of the screen?

missiles are fail in PvP because of the time it takes them to reach their target. very often in group pvp you will fire missiles only to see the target die before it gets to them
missiles are great in PvE because it makes killing frigates easy as missiles don't (AFAIK) have any tracking issues.
Amarr Battleships are mainly popular due to the nature of lasers. One of the hardest things about large scale pvp is logistics. Having to organise ammunition for 20 different types (on a good day) is incredibly annoying, and lasers make ammunition a non-issue.

Keep training your projectiles and work towards a t2 fit maelstrom. They deal awesome damage and their alpha is king in a fleet situation. T2 Hurri's are also along the same path and are a phenomenal ship to hold you over during the gun grind.
Missiles get regarded as the king of pve as well because they deal flat dps all the time. There's no transversal, falloff, or general tracking issues to worry about. Not to mention they can change damage types on a whim with different ammo depending on the rats. Explosion radius issues and speed tanking rarely come up in missions either, and can easily be solved by drones.
Gallente ships are actually pretty nice overall. Caldari are the worse.
This is definitely true. Minmatar and Amarr both have some nice looking ships but Gallente in general are the best, with the exception of the Dominix. Caldari ships just look like Frank Loyd Wright architecture viewed in 8-bit and turned sideways.
The coolest looking ships in the game, by far, are the rogue drones. They're just creepy.
Gallente ships all look like dicks. I mean, if you're into that...
the amarr have the largest compensation in the game when we talk about giant space dicks.
anyways, i'm just about ready to fly to goon side of syndicate with my mission tristan and work on getting my caldari cross train on. but i have a dominix about 9 jumps out. it'd be a total of 32 jumps to go get it and fly it to "goon space" ... worth it? all low/null sec. i'm blue personally to some of the major pubbie corps in the area, but the bigger corp (rooks and kings) i think I'm going to be nuet to.

Ok, depends on what you're using the BS for.
Missles are really good for PvE because you can directly select your damage type for whatever the enemy is weak against. Bad for PvP because, as someone mentioned, they have flight time in which your opponent can do things.
Projectiles are awesome, especially the artillery now. CCP changed up the ammo so you now have different damage types at the different ranges, plus the HUGE alpha buff of the artillery cannons. As mentioned, the maelstrom makes an awesome fleet BS as well as a good PvE ship for missions.
Love me some minmatar ships. And the hurricane is the best ship evar. Bar none. alpha an interceptor before it can warp away to ball of death at close range depending on fits.

Cocks aside, it has occured to me that not only is Gulf flying a Tengu in the Dominion trailer, he is TRIPLE BOXING Tengus. Rich fellow.
:edit: wait, maybe not. Looking at the hi-res version, it appears his wingmen are not also callsign: Gulf. Bit fuzzy, but it looks like Lucy and Core maybe.

It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

Doing some Wiki-reading while I wait for work to get done:
This data assumes passive armor compensation skills at 4. What is intriguing is the sheer dominance of the EANM II/DC tank; if you can mount EANMIIs, they are worth their weight in isk. With this combination plus compensation skills, they vastly outstrip an active tank. The difference between a SARII tank with EANMII/DC and a MARII active tank is a paltry 200 hp, and the former costs barely any cap and saves you 170 grid.
With the release of Damage Control IIs, the passive tank becomes even more powerful and affordable at the T2 level.
1x MARII, 2x EANM II, 1x DC, 1600mm: 23,496 rep
1x MARII, 3x Active (Kin/Therm/Exp), 1600mm: 20,684 rep
1x SARII, 2x EANM II, 1x DC, 1600mm: 20,407 rep
Never flown a Thorax, never meshed with my skillset (I don't have much in the way of good Turret skills), but I might end up doing so after a few weeks of training Medium Turrets et all. So... ok, so EANM + DC is what makes a passive Armor tank, and 3x Active Armor Hardeners is what makes an active tank... but you run a Armor Repair Unit on either one? That makes sense.
What's Rep? I presume it's an EVE-ism meaning effective ship health of some kind, but I can't figure out what it stands for.
And what are the "passive armor compensation" skills? I think I have them (I'm currently mostly trained towards armor tanking, drones, and ship flying) but want to make sure I'm not noobishly missing one.
Are the suggested skill pack EMP files broken for anyone else, or just me?

I have no idea what he's going on about, and I don't think he does either. Anything with a shield booster or armor repairer is automatically an active tank. Anything without is a passive tank, although passive shield and passive armor tanks are quite different: Shields regenerate, so you can perma-tank a certain amount of DPS. Armor doesn't regenerate, so you can't perma-tank any DPS, just try to kill your opponent before they can chew through your HP. For armor tanks, an active tank is usually AR + EANMs + DC or AR + rat-specific hardeners. A passive tank would be plates, EANMs + DC. Pretty much 100% active armor tanks are used for PvE and passive (buffer) armor tanks are used for PvP.
Usually you use EANM if you're tanking against all damage types, and active hardeners if you're only tanking against a specific damage type. A DC counts as a mini-EANM and because of stacking rules is better than the third EANM. Passive armor compensation skills are the EM/Kinetic/Explosive/Thermic Armor Compensation skills, and should be at III or IV if you use EANM. They don't matter if you use active hardeners.
hah, I love some of the certificate quotes in EVEMon:
This certificate represents an elite level of competence in the infamous practice of "hull tanking". It certifies that the holder can fully use all modules relating to hull tanking. The holder is aware that "real men hull tank", and also that hull tanking is really dumb. With this certificate, you've maximised your ability to rely on your structural systems to absorb damage, although hopefully you're smart enough to know what a daft idea that is.

Going off their previous discussions of planetary control during fanfest, I wonder how they will determine conflict over the planets though in the meantime before DUST.

As a returning player I would like to say that Stealth Bombers rock now...
Myrmidon decided to engage a Caldari FW fleet I was with, thinking it was two T1 frigates and two T1 Cruisers... Three of us in SBs decloaked and tore him apart, it was great!
Where do people get blueprints to make shit? Is that what hacking and archeology and whatnot is for?
T1 prints are bought from npcs in empire. T2 were handed out years ago in a lottery, but you can make short-run copies with invention. And some really esoteric ones can be gotten through exploration sites.

Not originals, no. All the originals were given out in like 2003-2005 and it's extremely unlikely they'll issue them ever again because of how completely fucked up the T2 market was before invention. If you want an original these days you gotta buy it from someone who got it back then, and those people are hardly ever interested in selling.

I'll take that advice. Too much training needed to fly an Apoc well for me, whereas I'm only a week or two out from flying a Maelstrom well.
I mean, there must be a reason people fly Maestroms!

Have Maelstrom's been improved? Because maybe a year back Maelstrom's were considered "meh" mainly due to Tempest's being better at range/damage in fleet situations.
