It has a steep learning curve. You must be patient with it.

Also, I hope you like menus.

Playing more wont make your character advance faster. It will still take the same amount of time to become proficient at flying battleships so it turns some people off as it feels like they have to wait and pay for their subscription to do some things (fly battleships or something like that). Yet if they were playing any other MMO they would have to grind 2 months for exp while in eve you just spend those 2 months doing whatever the hell you want, and that is a big problem for some players. They dont know what to do if there are no goals like "go kill 400000 rats to gain those levels".

You will never have the same skillpoints as the players who started before you (people moan about that) but you will be just as good as them at flying a specific ship (not all ships but pretty much most) in a few months if you specialize at it.

Eve gets boring if you dont have any friends to play with and if all you do is missions you will quit fast. You pretty much need to find your own fun instead of being hand held through a certain list of things that you have to do to progress.

My biggest deal in EVE is/was space logistics. Although you can often pay someone else to do it, it can get expensive to get what you want, where you want it.

Hahaha, everything you listed is why my friend fucking hates Eve. He says it's dumb that he can't grind for 6 hours a day to get more skills than the guy who joined at the same time but only has played 1 or 2 hours a day. Like, he actually enjoyed the mechanics of the game and liked that everything is player-driven but he couldn't get past the skill system at all. He wanted to be able to fly dreadnaughts immediately or some such bullshit, I don't know.

Man that was the one reason I REALLY liked EVE. However, inform said friend to buy a character.

Yeah, it's one of the big reasons why I like it too.

He wouldn't ever spend money on buying a character, for any game. He's already washed his hands of the game and won't ever consider it again, no matter what I or anyone else says.

Eve university is terribly stuffy and won't teach you anything useful. Come out to 0.0 and join with MerchI instead. We'll get you started up with plenty of money, and not flip out because YOU UNDOCKED WITHOUT A GANG AND LET A HOSTILE GET A KILL FFFFF. (Really, when eve uni is wardecced they don't let players undock alone and get quite upset).

Not to mention experiencing what they'll only talk about, will better help you gauge if Eve is right for you or not.

Yeah, with only a week's worth of access to the goonwiki, I've learned more about the game in there than I have in 4 years I've been playing it. (off and on). Eve Uni isn't terrible, but hell, if you join merchi you have access to the entire spectrum of the game and a crazy detailed knowledgebase to learn from.

Sooo, I might be coming back to Eve, my last alliance/corp kind of fell apart or something. I just dropped out the last time.

I'd be interested in joining up with ya'll. 25m SP, generally a focused force recon pilot, a little broke...How hard would it be to get joined in?

Oh, I'm also heavy in the red on security status.

Courthouse would have to go through your corp/alliance history and their relation to goons, but that's the only difficulty involved with joining.

Yeah, went through it before and got the "OK", since then I've just joined/lead one alliance. Simply because it was taking so long to get into the PA corp, and I wanted to play.

It shouldn't be a problem, I'll drop an app as soon as the game is up and running.

Light RP means that I enjoy the lore, theorizing about the story and making an attempt to name and design my character to fit into the universe.

I really don't think it's all that crazy.

This is a ridiculously broad question for a game like Eve, and I started to write up a big post, but here's something far more entertaining that should do the job:

    Goonwaffe Newbie Guide

It's already started to be a bit out of date with how fast things change, but will still give you the fundamentals.

This can take anywhere from a few hours to several days, because it relies on particular people being online. If getting access is taking a while after you get into the corp just ask about whatever you want to know about in corp chat. Newbies who want to learn are the best newbies and most people will answer your questions as best they can. I always try to anyway.

App dropped, I'm sitting in my pilgrim in Istodard.

Funny story, as soon as I logged in I was in my original starting station, in my ship. It appears in one patch I was magically moved from where I last logged out in 0.0 to a 1.0 system. Problem with that is, my security status is kinda low, so flying about would result in a ship loss. GM's kindly moved me to a station I trusted.

    I await word from courthouse.

I tried joining a fleet today and they were using mumble instead of teamspeak.

I can't seem to get on the goon server. It doesn't give me an option to enter a password anywhere. Also, the wiki says that the goon server isn't online most of the time - then what was the fleet on, if so?

The great part is that your character does the important advancement whether you're online or not, so you can spend your game time making isk and having fun.

Well, you can train a few skills and float around with dudes throwin' nets on some motherfuckers pretty fast. If you want to make your own money quickly then yes, that's the way to do it until you have your PvEing skills trained up to the point that you can solo stuff that doesn't give garbage money.

Or you could use the Jaef plan and simply offline the majority of your starting training until you can solo. Wheeee.
