Finally made it past the Collector Ship on Insanity.
The platforms weren't too bad when Thane and Miranda stayed in the cover I put them in, but they kept demonstrating a really annoying 'free-will'.
And that Praetorian kept me going for a while.
I eventually took it down with my handgun, after I went through all my ammo for every other gun following a comically mis-aimed Cain shot that went right through the doors behind it, and only took down its barrier.
Sigh.
I got through the rest of it easily enough (in comparison), then when I made it back to the ship, my fish were dead. Then Kelly offered to feed them for me.
You just can't catch a break on Insanity, can you?
I'm planning to start up a new game with a fem-Shepard on insanity. What's the best class for this difficulty? I just did a normal run with Vanguard, and I can imagine dying quite a bit on Insanity with that class.

I gave up on the fish. All they achieved was randomly making me sad. I wish you could convert the fishtank into a massive, pimped out hamster habitat.

Infiltrator. By god, Infiltrator.
And take Warp Ammo or Reave. I personally liked Reave a lot.

Reave is amazing if you want a two-for-one deal on barriers and armour. Evolve it into area reave - enemies love to bunch up, and even if it's just 1-2 collectors you've saved yourself the possibility of another Harbinger showing up by blasting through more than one barrier at once. I loved it on my engineer, and as such never took incinerate (because, hey! Reave also stops enemy regeneration!)
Both are pretty boss though.
With regards to inferno ammo - Both Jacob and Grunt have access to it. Jacob's pretty sucky on Insanity. Grunt is not. If you take Grunt, give him squad incendiary ammo. You will not regret it if you don't have an ammo power of your own that's effective against armour and regenerating enemies.
Does anyone know why enemies that don't use regular guns drop thermal clips? I understand that the Geth and mercs and security drones will drop thermal clips, cause they use regular standardized guns. But then you've got those dog drones that just run up and... they do stuff to you? Honestly, I've never actually had them reach me, so I don't know what the dog drones do, but they probably do something melee, and they'll sometimes drop thermal clips. But the dog drones don't use any guns, so why would they have thermal clips?
Or the husks, sometimes they'll also drop thermal clips when they die. But husks don't use guns, so there's no way they'd have thermal clips. Or uh, flamethrower guys. They use flamethrowers, so why would they have thermal clips? They would use power cells for their flamethrowers, right? They wouldn't need thermal clips. They should drop power cells instead, right? Cause the flamethrower heavy weapon you can use is powered by power cells.
Or the Praetorian, I think I had a Praetorian drop a thermal clip too. But the Praetorian just uses a beam weapon, so it probably uses power cells. Or Collectors, why would Collectors use thermal clips? They're really alien and use... Reaper technology, right? So why would they convert all their guns to use thermal clips? It doesn't make sense. The Collectors have their weird organic assault rifles with bio-components. It doesn't seem like something you'd stick a thermal clip into. Why would they use organic guns with thermal clips that also work with regular mechanical guns? And some of the Collectors don't use the regular guns, they use the Collector Particle Beam heavy weapons. But we know that this particle beam gun uses power cells as well. So... shouldn't Collectors with the particle beam drop power cells, instead of thermal clips? They always drop thermal clips, nothing else.

because the game would be unplayable if you were not able to re-arm during a mission.
It wouldnt have been a problem if they had kept the old system of cool down, or a hybrid wait and cool or oh shit pop a sink now i need to fire system..but C'est la vie

Delta - one of the tips during the loading screen hints that "enemies with flame weapons are more likely to drop thermal clips" or some shit like that, so I think it's a percentage thing. There's definitely spots with respawning thermal clips though.

enemies with heat based weaponry. like rifles, not flamers.

a flamethrower shoots fire at the enemies.
a rifle shoots slugs and has to dissipate internally generated heat.

No, I understand.
I think the real purpose of my post just eluded you.
I was playing this NES game River City Ransom, and everytime I knock out a dude, he blinks out of existence (wtf) and there's a coin that bounces up and down where his body used to be. The coins all look the same, but some of them are worth more money than others. Who makes a coin worth $4.45?

I took group Dominate for the final mission. It didn't insta-kill husks at all. In fact, it was kind of usless on them, because I found a husk will just stand there instead of attacking anything. However, this fact did make it real handy on the abominations as a sort of pseudo-stasis. Keeps the fuckers from rushing in my face and exploding.

I'll never be able to take Tali seriously again.
And he was like "What, that arse-clown with the rocket launcher? Yeah he ate a tasty meal of geth firepower and artillery.
... So can we go now, Tali?"

Inferno ammo/Incinerate are practically required because everything has armor on insanity.

Bwuh? I've dominated a few husks and they didn't die outright. Usually did so whenever it was one of those "50 husks and 1 or 2 scion" scenarios.
A lot of things instantly kill Geth Husks.
Throw of any rank instantly kills them.
They will shatter of their own accord if you freeze them with Cryo Blast.
Once you get through the armour they're cakewalk.

What the hell, dudes?
A wizard did it.
I know. He did it in the page before this one. :P
fixed for stupid mass effect lexicon.
what the hell are geth husks?
Geth husks are the parts you peel off to expose the ripe kernels.
