Hijack this help

Hey gang. Could someone look this over for me and tell me what needs to stay/go? This computer runs well once it's going but it takes upwards of 25 minutes to boot. I had to uninstall Spybot cause it made the boot process so long. Thanks a bunch.

That is the only thing that pops up as questionable running the log through a couple of online parsers. There are a lot of unnecessary startup items and browser helpers though.

Did HP give you an actual Windows disk or just a recovery disk with the pre-loaded bloatware? If you have a real Windows disk, back up any data you want to keep then format and reinstall.

Have you tried a different anti-virus? AVG has become bloated and not that great on older hardware. You might have better luck with Avira or Avast.

This. I have a 9 year old laptop that doesn't take that long to boot into XP.

If it isnt malware then some device is hanging the system at boot. You could try seeing how long it takes to boot an Ubuntu or Knoppix live cd.

Look at your system and app event logs first, see if there's any errors (could be an app, service or driver having issues). I may have missed something, but your system appears clean from that dump.

If there's nothing in the logs, try running msinfo32 and going to Components > Problem Devices. Usually benign stuff here (like leftover drivers for something you've already removed), but you never know.

Next, in msinfo32, goto Software Environment > System Drivers, sort by Start Mode and see if anything that should be started is stopped. Investigate from there.

And a long shot, because this usually manifests in other ways, but check all of your plug-ins/add-ons for your browsers after you have booted. Sometimes they're narfed (especially AV related ones) and use the browser to launch or load things into memory. If there's any you're comfortable with reinstalling, remove them.

Any third party storage related drivers? Like backup software? Aside from AV, backup software can usually have some kernel mode drivers that can really delay a system startup.

And just for shits and giggles, do a rsop.msc and look and see if anything made modifications to the local group policies. If that fails to launch just do gpedit.msc

Try uninstalling AVG and re-installing it. I've seen it kill boot times.
