Yes, instead of rebattling every trainer you can only rebattle those whose numbers you get. They call you up to fight and I think if you call them at certain times you can also trigger the refight.
I like how they did Gym Leader rebattles in this game. Track them down and call them up. I have every number now, just waiting until this weekend before all 16 will be sitting in that gym.

Its the Vs. Seeker and without it I can't battle against trainers for EV training any more. It's not nearly as reliable at least.
The other thing I miss having from Platinum is a clock or my full team displayed on the bottom screen, but I can't complain about the touch screen controls in this game. They're pretty great.
It saves a good 30 seconds faster then Platinum. Also I now really dig the item menu for TMs.
They really need another category separation though for consumable non battle items and equips.

Can you deposit items into the PC again? Because as much as I like unlimited bag space, there's a lot of stuff on my Platnium cart I would have preferred to store.

No.
DS carts have slow write times, and it doesn't help that 4th gen games triple save each time. It's now really fucking difficult to get a corrupted save file for all three without badly using a cheating device.

Darn. Although I guess I could have unused Pokemon sitting in the PC hold items I don't need.
And if that's the reason for the long saving times, I'm fine with it. Better to wait a little while then lose dozens to hundreds of hours of progress.
Well, I never played Platinum, but if its save times were anything like Pearl, then yeah, the new games save MUCH faster. Or rather, it seems a lot smarter about it. In Pearl, if you moved so much as one pokemon in a box one space to the left, then the game does the mega "Saving a lot of data" version that takes forever. In Silver, so long as you save pretty regularly, you don't get that. It's not unless you catch a good chunk of pokemon and battled a lot between saves that you'll get the super version.
If anything though, I wish the game was smarter about the auto saving. Like when accessing any online function. I completely understand why it's doing it and appriciate it. But there are moments when it's redundant. I'm turning on my DS and loading a save where I'm right in front of the GTS. I'm taking one step to the left to talk to the receptionist. You don't need to bloody save the game, nothing has happened. It's redundant, but the bad kind of redundant.

Gen 1 and 2 games had quick ass saves but then again they also needed a save before box changing and wouldn't auto shift caught pokemon to the next box.
Also they only saved once. I think Crystal might have had a backup save. Gen three games have two, and I'm pretty sure gen four has three.

Apparently a typical day for me involves 2,903 steps. I thought I didn't move around much aside from when I actually exercise, so this was a surprise
I love the Pokewalker, though I feel we won't see much of it come 5th gen. It'd be nice if an updated Pokewalkers became a staple pack-in. Speaking of 5th Gen, I really hope the trade system is as easy as RYB to GSC(ie any poke can be traded so long as it has no new moves and is not a new species). And maybe they can cool it with the legendaries, considering they've made PokeGod.
Man, HG/SS totally needs a Pokemon Stadium 3 with crazy box options, Gym leader castles, Cups, Mini-Games and Earl's Academy. The Stadiums were a perfect complement package back in the day. However, we just have the awkward Battle Revolution/Pokemon Ranch combo to work with these days... yeah.
Gen 5 should do a new Stadium. Shoot, it's to be made for the DS right? All 7 games would be compatible!
BTW Thank you Terrendos and jothki for the Voltorb Flip explanation. I was still too "Durr this isn't the slot machines" to really figure it out. I'm enjoying it quite a bit now!

I still remember the waves of corrupted game saves that resulted from the Missingno trick.
Fortunately, despite abusing that trick quite a bit (and even having the poor judgement to catch Missingno) I managed to avoid having my save get bum jumped.
Either I'm getting old, or I'm just burned out on more of the same, because I'm not seeing why you guys love this so much. It just seems like the same Pokemon game I've played to death 7 times now...again.
All the way up to Pearl, I played the hell out each game, and did the whole breeding moves/IV and EV training/dailies for berries, items, etc./completing the Pokedex in every single game. Hell, in Pearl, my world globe showing where I traded with is lit up like a Christmas tree.
This time, I blew through the game with a team consisting of my starting Pokemon (Feraligatr) and the final evolutions of a Pidgey, a Sentret, a Mareep, a Geodude, and a Drowzee. All were obtained within the first 20 minutes of playing.
I just don't want to do everything again.
And this is coming from someone who would happily pay $50 a month to play a good Pokemon MMO.
I think the Pokemon games are just getting stale. Essentially, every main Pokemon release is the exact same with the exact same formula since Blue/Red. Building up perfect teams with a new move here and there isn't cutting it any more.
I was gonna say chill out and relax and make the team you want, but it sounds like you did, sooo.. IDK.
I just got back into platinum, havent played for realzies since Gold. Right now im holding off on the IV/EV training, and just having some fun. Im going to start a fighting pokemon team, and do double only matches, TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD!
Well man if you came in expecting anything new... uhhhhhh
It's just GS with all the good stuff from DPPt(and Crystal). Maybe Gen 5 will mix it up, but this cart is just a big pile of fan service.
@Maddoc lol Missingno. You caught it? Ballsy move.* I never had the guts to try, after seeing the damage it did to my hall of fame. That sound... the garbled letters... I felt like I'd just made a deal with the devil. But a man's gotta have his PP Ups.

Lead with them, switch to something that can handle the pokemon you're fighting. It only adds a little time to the battle.
I never played Gold, Silver or Crystal. I'm loving HG/SS, it seems quite different to the other games I've played (FR/LG, R/S/E, D/P/Pt), beyond the core mechanic of 'find pokemon, train pokemon, destroy gyms'.
I'm actually having trouble with the gyms, a level 17 Scyther ripped through most of my team, which was level 12 at the most at the time. Now I have a 15, a 16 and a a bunch of 12-13. I just hit Goldenrod City, and I think I'm going to have to train/grind for the gym here, if there is one. I've not explored enough yet.

I take it I'm grossly underlevelled?
16 Quilava, 15 Furret, 13 Sandshrew, Butterfree, Totodile, Chikorita (biggest waste of space EVER), 12 Togepi, Pichu.
She learns Razor Leaf at lvl. 6, which I thought was amazing at the time, considering Ivysaur has to wait until lvl. 20. All right, Bulbasaur has the advantage of crushing Brock and Misty, while Chikorita struggles against Falkner and Bugsy, but she's pear-shaped! Pear-shaped with a leaf on top!

I honestly don't remember what level my stuff was then or what level the gym leader's pokemon was.
I just kinda laughed that most people were dreading the Goldrenrod gym and you are blissfully unaware.

Hah! Goldenrod Gym was hard.
Led with Butterfree every time, and used Sleep Powder, before wearing them down with Confusion or switching to something that hit harder.
Then Whitney. Sleep on her Clefairy, switched to something that hit hard, and wailed on it. When she sent out Miltank, switched back to Butterfree, go to hit Sleep Powder... ROLLOUT. Ow. Dead Butterfree. Revive while it was out, Chikorita soaked up a rollout, used Leech Seed, died to the next rollout. Sandshrew. Soaked a Rollout, hit back, died to the next one. Totodile just died to the last rollout. Butterfree. She used attract, SLEEP POWDER. Switch to Quilava, FLAMETHROWER UNTIL DEAD.

What's Vs. Trainer? Is that where you can rebattle trainers that you've previously fought?
Are you saying that's not in HG/SS?
... Why am I taking all these trainer phone numbers then.
