New to Visio, need help w/ Network Map.

Short form: I have no clue how to do a network diagram properly with Visio.

Long form:

A while back, I decided that our place of business REALLY needed a map of its computer infrastructure, as well as an inventory of some sort. The inventory part was fairly easy, but the mapping part is what is giving me fits.

A few feeks back I was introduced to Visio, and I downloaded a trial version of Pro 2007 specifically for this project. It seems like a fairly intuitive program, save for the pathing of connecting points (which I'll get to in a bit), and I have found a place that has free stencils for most of the equipment I'm diagramming.

Here's my question, and where I need help:

I have no clue how would be the best way to actually MAP this sucker. The "getting started" sections suggested keeping it as simple as possible, but that really doesn't help given the scope of this project. After all, we have around 70 networked devices, even before we start talking about switches and hubs.

Here's what I want to diagram:

1) Our store has 3 floors, with outlets all over them for ethernet (I don't care about the phone lines as much). I want to indicate where all those outlets are. Preferably, I'd like to show what devices are present as well, so that I can show wiring and the like.

2) Those outlets feed into 4 48-port patch panels. I need some way to show this correlation. I figure A, B, C, and D will work, and I don't need to draw that exact connection.

3) Those 4 patch panels are on our main rack. I want to represent this rack...

4) ... and I would like to show how the rack is wired up. This is the hardest part, as the rack has a 48+2 switch that is the main switch, as well as 2 more switches that were part of the old network.

Step 4 is the part I'm working on right now, and it just isn't working. I have the switch and some stand-ins for the patch panels, and as I draw connectors between them the connectors just don't show up well or they overlap. I'm not sure if I should just diagram the rack and its components, and then do wiring separately, or if I should diagram each patch panel on its own sheet, or what.

I should note that I've done my inventory and preliminary mapping in a google document, which in theory lists the upstream and downstream devices and connections -- at least as far as I can tell. I know I can export that to excel, and from there into Visio (one sheet at a time, grr...), but I just don't know if there is a simpler way to do this or not.
