It is a sad day. I awoke this morning to find my dog had died during the night. We'd had him since he was a puppy and my family were all pretty devastated. He hadn't been ill and wasn't particularly old. He was a bit of a monster for a german shepherd actually.
Here he is in all his magnificence.
It was quite a shock and we will miss him terribly.
Still, the world turns and now we have a lovely 12 week old german shepherd puppy. Pictures are forthcoming but here is a similar looking puppy that google kindly prepared earlier.
He is in desperate need of a name. My sister and I are drawing a blank so I am opening it up to suggestions from the floor. He'll be living with another dog called Gypsy so if anyone can think of a name that goes well with that all the better. The only idea we have so far is Roman (from Romany) which I don't mind but can see it being shortened to "Ro" which I don't like.
Any suggestions will be considered, but bear in mind the name will also have to be suitable for my parents who are in their sixties so nothing too shocking if you please.

And it seems like all is dying, and would leave the world to mourn
That's a tad long for the dog to understand though, so... Do you happen to know the number of the litter he belonged to? Not the amount of puppies born but the times the bitch had puppies. (I'm slightly lacking in vocabulary here, sorry) Normally this goes A, B, C and so forth and every puppy gets a name beginning with that letter.

I would like to pause for a moment, to talk about my penis.
My penis is like a toddler. A toddler—who is a perfectly normal size for his age—on a long road trip to what he thinks is Disney World. My penis is excited because he hasn’t been to Disney World in a long, long time, but remembers a time when he used to go every day. So now the penis toddler is constantly fidgeting, whining “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? How about now? Now? How about... now?”
And Disney World is nowhere in sight.
But seriously, I always liked names from mythology. How about Ajax, or Diomed? They're short and easy for him to remember, and have heroic namesakes. Or if you like those freaking Trojans, roll with Hector. Or Priam. God, there's a plethora of names here...
There are some acts so ruthless, some deeds so unpalatable, that only the Vlka Fenryka are capable of undertaking them. It's what we were bred for. It's the way we were designed. Without qualm or sentiment, without hesitation or whimsy. We take pride in being the only Astartes who will never, under any circumstances, refuse to strike on the Allfather's behalf, no matter what the target, no matter what the cause.
As I promised, I've managed to get some pictures. You can see he was a lot more interested in his ball than the camera.
As far as names go so far, my sister likes: Garrus, Rosco, Boomer, Ajax and Tigh. However, I now really want to call him Commander. Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I'll run a couple past my parents today but more are always welcome.
I'll also add some better pictures if I can get him to actually look up.

if you're going that way, you might as well just call him Commander.

Forget it...
I've never been called 'Ro' before, so i probably wouldn't worry about it. I tend to get 'Rome' or 'Romie' as a pet name, however.
