Hey,
Putting the fact that this is my first post aside, I was wondering if any Squaresoft fans could help me out:
Having beaten Kingdom Hearts [I, CoM & II ^.^] over the winter break, I decided that I'd finally get around to completing the Final Fantasy games, which, though I'd bought them, had been too young to really get into. So, I pull out my copy of FFIX and place it into my PS2. This is where things start to go wrong; the console starts to make a horrible grinding noise and shudders slightly. I hit the disk eject button and, it just flashes for about fifteen seconds before ejecting. (I can't speak for others, but, this has never happened to me before.) So, I think that maybe I didn't put the disk in properly and try again. The same thing happens.
I'm loathe to keep doing this, or see if the game will actually load as, I don't want to risk damaging the console or the disk itself. I've just tried loading disk 4, and, it makes a much quieter grinding noise (this is closer to regular, disk loading noises, but, is still pretty loud.) but loads perfectly after a couple of seconds.
I suppose I could try letting disk 1 run it's course, but, I'm pretty worried that I'll damage my PS2. Has anyone encountered something like this before? Did anyone manage to fix this?
Thank you for your time.

Something odd though; when I left disc 1 in the tray and switched the PS2 off at the primary power switch (the one that's near the fan) and then back on again later to test other games the grinding noise changed to the noise made by the discs that load, the much softer, less 'I'm in ur PS2, raping your disc tray' noise. Still no luck though, I've tried turning it off and on a couple of times again, but, I get disc read errors every time.
Looks like I'll be needing to buy a new copy of FFIX then, unless anyone has any brilliant ideas to save me £13?
Is the spindle hole or outer edge knicked or damaged in any way?
Inspect the data surface, do you see any prominent scratches?
If you said Yes to any of these inquiries, your disc may be boned.
The only time I could think that an entire cd set would get warped would be if somebody left the case containing all the discs in the sun or in a warm spot for any amount of time.
Thank you all for your help.
