(DnD 4e) Using a Hex World-map

I've never used a hex map for large-scale travel, or anything really. I've been playing around with Hexographer to see what kind of setting I could build for a sandbox game. I'm just not sure how to actually implement it. If anyone can give me a sort of play-by-play of how a DM might explain use of such a worldmap to his players, that'd be great.

I've read Gabe's posts on his sandbox game, and I'm interested in the idea of "resolve tokens", but it's all a bit fuzzy to me, and I'm sure there are alternatives as well. Any insight would be appreciated.

So, is this just a dumb question? Or did I post this in the wrong place?

Does my post make sense? I'm such a noob when it comes to DnD. I'd really like to understand more though.
