I am making a call out to 4 investigators to explore occult horror. I am going to use the CoC 5th edition to run this game set in the standard 1920ish setting. (which is currently at my other residents and needs to get grabbed)
Things you should know about me and this game.
I am epic fail with spelling and grammar, often. So if that bothers you, best to avoid reading anything I write.
I am going to steal from several other stories, so if that bothers you, then you should most likely not play this game. I am going to steal from Stephen King’s Lisely’s Story, so if you have read that, this might not be as exciting for you as it could be.
I hope to do one post every day or every other day for the game.
I have never run a CoC game with pBp but am currently running my 1st and only other pBp game as Dark Heresy on these forums.
CoC is very deadly and I don’t think I will be running a very combat heavy game, but when combat does happen in this game, characters die very fast.
I really don’t know much about the 1920’s so if I get stuff mixed up please ignore it.
(Side note, if you have any advice on CoC with pBp please comment. Or if you have any stories of great games or events, please share.)
I find CoC games somewhat hard to start an excuse for players to join together right away. My idea for a group would be several characters that joined together under the eccentric Adam Gram also known as Dr. Gram. The characters have been brought together by Gram, either as relatives, friends, colleges or employees with special talents to help Dr. Gram indulge in his expensive hobby of strange science and occult readings.
This game will open like this.
Adam Gram your (write in your connection) has sent you a letter recently urging you to meet him near his residence in the town of Salbur, Maine. He’s correspondence was very brief which is unusual for him and somewhat strange as he has not communicated with you in sometime. Curiosity and your old bounds bring you to travel to him though.
As you journey up to Salbur it starts to snow again, adding fresh powder to the already deep blanket that coats the woods. You pass through the small town of Salbur on January 7th around 8pm. On the outskirts deeper into the thick woods of Maine you pass by Dr. Gram’s large residence, but the letter strangely asked you to continue on the short ways to the old servant quarters. The residence is unlocked, and inside several others lounge waiting patiently for Dr. Gram who is strangely absent.
Things you know about Adam Gram. Gram inherited much wealth from what you understand to be royal links back to England. He is in his late 50s and still able bodied. He teaches often at the nearby Arkham. Dr. Gram is a very intelligent man who knows many subjects extensively from physics to history. His obsession though is the occult. Ancient religions, old stories, and books on those that claim to use sorcery fill his special personal library. It is hard to tell if Dr. Gram believes in these things he researches or if it brings him amusement.

I've only really GM'd CoC, but I've really enjoyed what I have. One campaign was set in my hometown (Cincinnati), using local haunts mixed in with made up stuff. I had a lot of fun building to the climax in that one, as there were clues around that led to what was really going on and linking all of these random hauntings together, but my PC's didn't put it together in time and got devoured by beasties. The other was way more pulpy and kind of was a mix between CoC and d20 modern (the characters had minor psychic powers and gained access to stuff like the Sword of David and a Migo laser). Combat was still a cautious affair and sanity came into full effect though.
