I've been going 1v1 (Copper League ftw!) with my rush-ish of 10 Marines, 2 Medivacs. At the very least I kill all of their prob, svc whatever thingys before my marines get taken out or I have to pull out.
Although I think the jewel so far has been the above + planetary rush. While he sent his marines to mine in the back of his base, I had my base land in front of his and go pew pew. It was glorious.
I kinda hope I stay bad (assuming the above I always will) because there is no way that shit will work in the upper leagues.
Setting up rules with friends is really the only way to avoid it.
I was playing with some PAers last night, and one of them zergling rushed me
I expect a little fucking more from you guys
that's funny because the zergling rush is terrible in SC2. If were had like, a zealot, you would have beaten it.
anyway, when people complain about rushing in an RTS it's like those dudes that call you cheap for throwing them in a fighting game. I just give them this look.
If you actually want to get better, then you need people to rush you until you can handle it. If you don't care, then just say before hand "I just want to fuck around please don't rape me immediately " Of course if you do that they're going to roll you with carriers/battlecruisers/ultralisks.
Man this game takes a lot out of me. 1v1s are stressful, and my heart rate goes up every time there is a battle, especially if I am winning. Winning is quite a rush. I hope this is a noob thing, because I like sc2 and all that stress can't be healthy.

Hahah I know what you mean.
Hell, I've been reading/watching some shoutcasts and guides, and I'm still too intimidated to even go into a random b.net game, much less ICCup.
I oddly felt this way when I started playing Modern Warfare 2 and WoW Battlegrounds, but I ended up running so much of both that now I don't hesitate to experiment during playing.
I'd love to get to that point in an RTS, it's just........

Hehehe, that's why I play SC2, or any RTS game for that matter! I get the same rush from fighting games too.

I used to feel that way about TF2, but that went away. That isn't as stressful anymore because if you die, you just come back in like 30 sec. But in SC2 if you lose, there went the last 10-20 min. Losing a long game is demoralizing. SC2 is way less intimidating to me than SC. Nobody has been playing and mastering SC2 for the last decade, and I really do believe in this new matchmaking system. Is it at all similar to WC3 or any other RTS?

I think it's pretty broken right now, at least leagues seem to be. I'm currently in gold even though the majority of the people I play against are platinum, and I win more often than not but I won't move up. At the top of my gold division there's even a guy who's like 180-70 and he's not moving up, but at the same time I've heard of dudes who jump straight from silver to platinum. In the Euro servers one of the best SC players, Koll, is stuck in silver for some reason.

I used to get this like literally 10 years back. Been playing this game too long :P If you play enough this all kinda disappears. Everyone starts out having some fear of 1v1 games. But honestly it's just you and some dude on the other side of the world.
After you get over losing, you kinda start actively looking for players better than you, just so you can test your mettle. What's always really frustrating is losing an hour long game. At that point it's best to log out for awhile. Those games are pretty rare in any case.
At the same time maybe it's not a good thing to lose the rush. Kinda exciting wooo.
Another thing is once in awhile you try to play when your hands aren't warm for whatever reason and you feel useless stumbling around on the keyboard and mouse. And then you start thinking about how your hands are shaking and oh it's alllll over.
Dangerisk on
If what you say is true, the Shaolin and the Wu-Tang could be DANGERISK.
A little late, but those videos were amazing melkster. I was a little turned off by the mic quality at first but it was worth it to watch that video, it was hilarious.
Didn't seem to anything really wrong with the quality to me. He's perfectly understandable, not too loud, not too quiet. And yeah, it was pretty entertaining.
so can protoss heal or repair their units in sc2?
zerg heal up over time, rines have medics and scvs, I was hoping blizz would have changed that aspect in regards to toss from sc1..

why were you hoping that? The other two races don't get regenerating shields.

Yeah the shakes. 1 on 1 rts matches are INTENSE. My heart rate used to soar while playing 1 on 1 Warcraft 3 ladder matches, and I was fairly decent and won about 50% of the games I played, usually losing when I was matched with higher level opponents. Even if I was doing well it was stressful.
I could only play 1 or 2 ladder matches a day then I had to chill out with some 2v2 or unranked matches.

no the other races have their hitpoints clumped together in one stat, "health". as such, protoss can only regen their shields yet never their hp. fair? I don't think so.
I haven't noticed any shield batteries, either. were those removed or do the toss have another unit that can do that?

What the hell are you talking about? Starcraft is, if not the most balanced, one of the most balanced RTS's in the videogaming world that still manages to have three unique flavours of play with the three races.
You can't just compare lack of health regen to medics in a vacuum, it doesn't work like that.
Don't be a [strike]fucking retard[/strike] silly goose.

Shields regenerate faster in SC2, like a lot faster. Don't let a protoss run away after you get his shields down, he will just be back 20 seconds later with fully regened shields.

Ouch, really? That sounds a bit bull, I've been playing mainly Zerg so I haven't noticed if protoss still have the shield battery. Do shield upgrades increase the regen or just the hp of the shield?
Shield batteries in 1 are actually pretty handy. If you select the battery, click on the button, and then click on empty space near a group of units, it'll automatically recharge the shields of every one of your units near that point.

Also, working when you have SC2 beta blows =(
I would if I didn't have a three year old climbing all over me.
Now ICCup is down until the new season is there a specific server on which you guys play?
I guess I'll hang out in US West, PA channel tonight.
It gives me some degree of hope for when I finally get SC2.
