How do unlocks and ranks and stuff work? Tried the official site, but it's amazingly bland and marketingesque and noninformative.
Unlocks work by either using the kit often or getting a promotion. When you get a promotion, you seem to get unlocks that all classes can use. They're part of All Kit category. To unlock items for specific classes, you have to use that class. If I'm a medic and I'm tossing out health kits and reviving people, getting kills as the medic with my LMG, that will count toward unlocking a new Support item. It's generally a linear progression, too. For example, the Support class starts off with the PKM LMG. The next unlock for using that class is the M249 SAW. The third unlock is the Type 88 LMG. In addition to the classes, there's also a Vehicle unlock tree where you earn perks to use with vehicles, like improved armor or a motion sensor.

Can't people on PC get in Vent and XBL players use party chat to get around it?
Yes, although the party chat for XBL is still kind of pointless because, at least in the demo, you couldn't invite more than three other friends to play.
Huh
So you can't play a full team of 12 in a group against other people in the console version? Yikes.

Not in the demo, at least. I'm unsure if the full version is any different. If not, then yeah, you can only play with three other friends through the party system.
That and the lack of team chat is why I'm going for the PC version.

Nobody has that many friends!
If I learned anything from N64 is that once there is four then you can have no more!

Just to be clear, the console games aren't 4 vs 4, they just split each team into 4-man squads, of which there are multiple.
You guys can't handle 12 or 16 people in team chat? Modern Warfare 2 has 9v9 and it was fine. I doubt a few more players would hurt. Just don't be fucking chatty nannies and constantly telling us shit we don't need to hear! Problem solved!
I like being able to coordinate with my team. Without that ability, there's no team cohesion. There's no team strategy. At the very least, you could have had a button that allows you to switch between squad and team voice chat. I'm just glad the PC version has team text chat.

Yeah, I figured it'd be 12v12 max on consoles. It's just weird that one side of the team can't be a part of the same group since lobbies only include 4. At least in the demo, as pointed out.
Seems a bit counter productive to the whole teamwork thing.

I agree.
Squad talk would be a good idea if it were an option. It makes it so you won't have to listen to random pubbers singing or rapping over the mic when playing. Forcing it only limits a large team of the same group from easily communicating with one another.
having like, 5 or more people in a vent server all talking about stuff in game gets kind of annoying. the squad only voice talk is a good idea.
Are their any 'squad leaders' for each squad who can speak to each other or some such? Seems like it might well be useful otherwise you've limited communication between the squads. Apart from that seems like a stand up idea.

What do the dr pepper codes get us in this one?

This is all I've heard about it, which still seems vague:
In Battlefield: Bad Company 2 four kit upgrades allow you to become a unique Special Activities soldier, with new camouflage and a modified weapon. Kit upgrades also contain new awards and an additional achievement.

Battlefield 2 has it that way, doesn't it? I'm guessing they thought that was too complicated for this series. Bad Company is trying to be the "distilled" version of the Battlefield formula.
Assuming they don't block it, the party chat system for the 360 is easiest workaround for a group of friends to talk to each other, but if they still have it like BC1 where only 4 people can pre-gather in a lobby then it'll still be a crapshoot to get everyone on the same team in a match.

Actually, you apparently just need one cap. You can keep registering the same code and picking a different prize, you just need to do it on different Dr. Pepper accounts.

Stupid fucking co-worker is moving to LA the day this comes out. Tis a shame ill be stuck at the bar getting drunk when I could be bringing buildings down on bad guys.

At least you could play it later that day, potentially, or the next day, right? I have to wait three to five business days for my copy to arrive.
That was the only downside of getting it free. Oh well. I'll be playing with you peeps hopefully by Friday.

So a ways back, I played Battlefield 2 for a while. It was alright, but I got kind of annoyed at how big maps meant ages of running without a vehicle around and was not a fan of the unlocking weaponry stuff. Also, not being able to fly a damn thing without a joystick for more than five seconds before the vehicle would go belly-up and crater nicely.
But for whatever reason, I just decided to check out this thread and the anti-noob video at the beginning despite not even thinking about this game for, well, forever. And I'm getting all tingly over it. Is this okay or do I need to see a doctor? Because I'm thinking I really need this game and I'm not really sure why.
EDIT: Screw it, don't even waste time saying it's gonna be awesome. Steam bought.

Apparently Canada is not doing it.
The bottles of Dr. Pepper have a code you can use to unlock items in various EA games. You choose a game and then your prize, and some games have multiple prizes. Spore has a robotics part pack. Mass Effect 2 has various head gear.

Dammit I already registered a Battlefield Heroes account so I could get the M1-Garand, I thought that would be the end of it. Some kind American PM me the promotional code of a Dr Pepper they aren't using.

What better way to spend time?
I agree on squad only chat being a good idea.
Much better than MW2.

Decisions.
Obviously video games are more important than meaningful social interactions and outdoor fun.
Buy the game!

Where do I go to register my old BF games? I only have BF2 and 2142 (and BC2 obviously) but I wouldn't mind a Garand if I can get one.
When you use the paddles on someone a window pops up asking "Is it Lupus? Y/N"
