Depending on what the mats were reduced to, it's quite probably cheaper to drink a flask on boss attempts than taking elixirs since they last through death.

Right, so then what's the use of elixirs? Making their effects so similar in level does little to help differentiate them.
The point of elixirs is for 5-mans probably. Although if flasks still last 2 hours, you have to compare them to taking 2 elixirs. The other difference is that you can have 2 elixirs active but only one flask.

Oh right, because tailoring rocks and doesn't need any fixes for once.

seriously, I feel the same way about blacksmithing
after having it for like two years and only making enough money to break even and using the true silver champion at level 47 and a few levels afterwards
Holy shit, those got nerfed into the ground. Thanks, Septus.
I've been thinking about dropping alchemy for tailoring for a while now. This might just be the push I needed. BoP Tailoring stuff > potions I can get from other people anyways.

Now I'm thinking that I'll drop herbs and alchemy on my mage for engineering and Tailoring. Pick up mining on the druid, and become super- retardo robed- engineer mageman. Jumper Cables lolz.

So what should I use on my pally as I level him up? This is going to be my first WoW character in a while, and I've seen a lot of people do the skinning/mining route just for gold, but I think I want something a bit more fun than just two gathering skills.
First... aid? I'm considering engineering/enchanting. Engineering because I've always wanted to try it. Enchanting because Prot pally can easily mob instances for greens to disenchant.
Woot! I actually got a blue pattern drop I can use! Okay, it's only the +15 shadow resist to cloak. Still, after getting 4 different blue jewelcrafting pattern drops it's good to get one I could, theoretically, use.
Far from it, you can get some pretty stuff from blacksmiting, specialy weapon smithing. I go to thotbot or somewhere and check it out before you drop it.
I just dropped Alch for Tailoring and Herbalism for Enchanting
Spellstrike, here I come
fix'd for me.
All the cool kids are dropping alchemy. And it feels so liberating!
It's great, I show up at Deadmines and offer to run people through for the small fee of "I get all the cloth/ greens you can't use". So basically, I get a team of lvl 18 pack mules to follow me through and do all the looting.
Did a similar thing with SM, and voila! 210 Enchanting/Tailoring. Next stop, Uldaman.

I dropped alch on my mage for tailoring as well. I just couldn't see keeping it as a skill.
I kept herbalism though, I can always pick the herbs I need for pots and ship them to the guild alchemists (and sell the ones they don't need on the AH).

I'm gonna laugh when they actually add something awesome to alchemy and everyone who dropped it rashly is like "OH SHI-"
well I mean
it takes 30 minutes and 100g to get it to 375
Thank you.
I almost kept my Herbalism as it's a good moneymaker, but with enchanting I'll be the only DE'er in the group I usually run with and I'll be able to enchant my own rings. Huzzah!
I also figure that DE'ing on it's own will turn a decent profit. I spend most of my time in instances anyways, so I was never picking flowers to sell.
Doing Tailoring at the same time just makes leveling enchanting easier. Also, my Druid is a leatherworker. Wicked Leather Headbands oh el oh el.

So, like many people around me, i'm thinking about dropping alch/herb and get some sexy mining / blacksmith going on. Anyone got a nice guide for the most painless leveling for blacksmith ?

i leveled up alchemy from 1 to 350 over about 5 hours total in anticipation of awesome changes to the profession and dropped it a week later when the terrible and awful changes were made.

Try here for 1-300 BS, here for 300-375 BS, and here for Mining.
It's not like alchemy isn't ridiculously cheap and easy to level up.
I powerleveled it on my warlock (to 300-ish), and I think it set me back about 200 gold, total. Granted, I had some herbs kicking around from powerleveling herbalism, but still.

hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet

Why is alchemy all of a sudden useless? God, I'd keep it just for avoiding the annoyance of finding someone else to combine my pots. It's not godly like some other professions, to be sure, but it's not engineering, srsly.

I'm really not sure what to think here.

it feels good to have a thunder.

Tailoring got a huge buff.
ROBES
I will miss seeing my sexy arms but the fact that I will never have to look at spellstrike pants makes me giddy.
But currently I'm doing Skin/Mine level 1-70.
Should I switch to jewelcrafting or engineering?

Tailoring is such an overpowered profession. Tier 6 for minimal effort? Yes please.
I'm a pally.
My two favorite specs are resto and balance.
edit- Plus I like MAD CASH
Must be a tree druid. Trees wear cloth, do they not?
Edit: Hmm, beated. But yeah, mooncloth is cool. I'm kind of glad the socket bonus sucks, because yellow gems are sub-par for a healer. I think.

eehh my friend has a 60 rogue that has alch at 300
I had every single recipe including the useless MC potion .... I didn't bat an eye dropping them =/
