I'm not going to New York City next week, but a bunch of my non-American classmates will be. They should arrive around Saturday evening or so and they'll be there until Thursday I think. Could anyone be so kind as to let me know about cool happenings that will be going on so I can pass it on to them?
Thanks!

That's in two weeks. Anything fun next week? It doesn't need to be big, I just think my friends will have a better time if they have a clue where to go.
The bodies Exhibit on the pier. not only is the pier gorgeous, but the exhibit is pretty damn cool. (kinda gross though, so I don't know if you guys are into that)
Huh. I'm going to New York next week too. I went to the Bodies exhibit a while ago, and it was pretty cool, though a little expensive. I went to the Frick last time I was there, and I feel it's an under-appreciated and very awesome museum--if old art's their kind of thing. The Frick is situated in that area near The Met and The Guggenheim (which I would say is the worst of the three, but I also didn't like the exhibit that was up last time I was there).
Things I plan to do because I think they'll be cool: Hit up some galleries I haven't decided on yet, eat lots of pizza, visit Argosy Books on 59th St, and go shopping in Chinatown.
I know none of that is really any sort of event, but I'd thought I'd just throw some ideas into the hat, and I'll be keeping an eye in this thread.

Are you a student of any kind? The Bodies Exhibit now has a student discount, which is totally unadvertised but way worth it. Show the nice people at the box office any kind of College/University ID, doesn't matter from where, international, whatever, and the price goes below 20 bucks.
Oh, and get there well before 6pm, you want to be able to take your time.

wow. My calendar is way off.
Anyways, I would strongly disreccommend the bodies exhibit. I found it macabre and the corpses dehumanized. It's the type of shit a serial killer would daydream about.
However, if you do make it down to South Street Seaport, you might as well take the ferry to Staten Island. On the way there you can watch helicopters take off and land at the heliport from the Elevated Acre (super cool hidden park at 55 Water. take the staircase)
Well the bodies were donated to science, so they were alive and well at one time. Also, they're all dancing or bike riding; what could be more human than that?
I Dunno, Deebaser, I guess it depends on the people going, but I have a huge interest in human anatomy, and what our bodies are capable of, so it was cool for me, but YMMV.
-Museum of Natural history (dinosaur bones n'shit! Who DOESN'T like dino bones?)
-MOMA (If modern art is their thing)
-The Met (There is some insanely beautiful art there. It's also huge.)
-Walk around Central Park. It's right across from the Museum of Natural History.
-Times Square. They could hit up the huge ass Toys R Us there. It's pretty neat.
-FAO Schwarz-another huge toystore. Think 'foot piano' from the movie "Big".
-The Apple Cube. It's a huge underground apple store. The entrance is literally a glass cube. It's right next to FAO Schwarz

Yeah it's totally YMMV and I agree with you on all points aside from Bodies and Nat History.
Nat history does have dinosaur bones n shit, but most of the place is bullshit dioramas. Met is so much cooler to me as it is made up entirely of real awesome shit and its on the East Side of the park.
The bodies just hits me in a wierd place. I don't think a corpses bones should be removed and made to dance with its muscles. creep pee
I went a few months ago and this was on display at south street seaport.

Also, the boat house in central park is pretty cool to grab a drink at depending on the weather.
I'm also a HUGE history nerd, so AMNH was pretty neat to me.. plus it's donation based so it's not like they'll be wasting money if they went and decided it was lame. I agree with you that the Met is better though, especially since they have that awesome Bronzino exhibit going on right now (also the met is donation based too, so you can pay like.. a buck, and get in, OP).
-Also, broadway shows. They're expensive depending on where you're sitting, but my boyfriend took me to see Wicked, and it was absolutely amazing. Everyone should see a broadway show at least once in their life.
Edit: To get some REALLY good sushi, pastries, smoothies (actually...food in general) check out Chelsea Market. It's an indoor market FILLED with amazing bakeries, beverage, and food places. And the atmosphere is absolutely fantastic and fun. Tell your friends to get brownies at the "Fat Witch Bakery". They make the best brownies I've ever had. Also check out
"RonnieBrook Dairy" (I think it's AKA The Dairy Bar)...amazing milk shakes, and it's all natural, and brought down from the city from a small dairy farm upstate. Absolutely delicious.
