Now if they built one with the d-pad and the left thumbstick swapped, I'd buy it.
My joints aren't what they once were, 25 years of playing video games is now something I can feel, and marathon sessions on the 360 murder my left thumb. But if I had a thumbstick where the d-pad is, I think I'd be okay.

This was my baby back in the day. Once I got it, I don't think I ever even played with a regular Super Nintendo controller. Even took it with me to play at other people's houses. My favorite bit to this very day was that the "slow motion" toggle was just the Start button being repeatedly pressed slowly or quickly.
Also got my brother a Hori arcade fighting stick since I managed to get him hooked on fighting games. Pricey, but nice. Marvel vs Capcom 2 doesn't even seem playable now if I don't have that stick. Makes me sad because I know I'll have to get one for myself before too long. And it's pretty awesome to be able to beat every one of his friends at every fighting game they bring up even though I've hardly touched any of them besides MvC2 in years.
I also had a friend once who had the Super Game Boy. Aside from letting you play Gameboy games on a TV via a Super Nintendo (which was actually pretty cool), the "color" options were so very, very bad. But I still fondly remember playing Link's Awakening on a TV.
I just got my Cube back a few months ago and the first thing I did was tore through a bunch of Gameboy Games in PROGRESSIVE SCAN.
It really doesn't look much different seeing how it is blocky and pixelated anyways but it makes me feel better! :P
It's all about the music. Forget those GBA speakers or headphones, you've got to get serious and make it use your whole sound system as much as it can.
They programmed in palette specifically for certain games and those games did look mighty fine.
Also very late SNES releases sometimes had SGB only functionality like being able to play space invaders 2 player using the second controller or other stuff like that.
Still, the GBP completely destroys that being able to play basically any GB, GB/GBC, GBC, or GBA game.
I liked the way memory cards fit into the N64 controller. Inserting it was the same gestural sensation as loading a magazine into a pistol. The perfect preparation to precede a hearty game of Goldeneye, even though the game didn't use it!
Finally decided to stop being lazy and take pictures. I have the most ghetto accessory in the world, and I've never seen another one, in real life or on the internet. I actually had no idea where I got it, what it was, what it was for, or what it did until I posted a ton of pictures of it online a long time ago and people helped me figure out its purpose. I'm going to see if you guys can figure out what it is without me telling:
Bah, I wish you had been in that thread 5 years back. :P
For clarification, you put your NES controller in the slot, screwed the screws down until they touched the buttons, and then rolled it on the floor. The arms with the screws would vibrate, repeatedly tapping the button.
Since Wavebirds (my nigh understructable controller) and GameBoy Players have already been mentioned:
My favorite was the GB attachment for the N64. The only use I had for it, if there were any other I don't know, was for Pokemon Stadium. But that's where the fun was: playing pokemon games at ludicrous speed! It's a shame the GB player didn't have an accelerator.

I love my Sidewinder. Still got it around here somewhere in case I reinstall MW4:Mercs or Echelon someday.
But I gotta mention the CH Flightstick Pro here. It was a product of the days when controllers were bulletproof analog devices. Only bit of maintenance it ever required in many years of yeoman service was a little bit of graphite to lubricate the gears.

I had one step up from the flightstick pro, the f 16 Flightstick:
That thing combined with Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries was drool-inducing. I remember the PCGamer issue when it came out reviewed it and basically stated "well, not much to say beyond if you never ever want to have to buy another joystick, this is your guy."
Helped that it was built like an f'n Panzer, too. Only reason I don't have it now is losing it in a move - I look at things like my Logitech MXwhatever mice that need to be replaced every year or two and think back to that thing. Mindboggling how much quality has dropped.
I bought it for Descent II, and it was just about the coolest thing ever. Hard to learn how to use, but once you trained your hands it was super natural.
Don't know why I keep it.. nostalgia I guess. Doesn't work under any modern OS, connects to a serial port which means you can't even plug it in to a lot of modern motherboards. You can get usb->serial adapters, but still doesn't solve the driver problem.
I found at my local nerd store this bad boy a few months ago, still in all the original packaging and whatnot.
It's too bad it's a collectable and I have no intention of taking it out of the case, because it's a really good quality controller.
I've been wanting to get one of those, but never saw them when they were supposed to have come out.

This was my N64 controller. The stick was made of metal (except for the top), so it didn't wear down into dust over time. If I retrieved it from my parents, it would probably still work.

Another oldie: Someone came into my gamestore back in 2002 I think and traded in one of these or something like it. I played Resident Evil Survivor with it and now wish I had bought it. It had a cool case with a foam cutout and everything.
My good friend who worked with me at said store has the Onimusha 3 sword, but I do not believe he got the chainsaw for RE4.
I always wanted to get that RE4 chainsaw controller. Not to use, but for displaying, as I heard it was a terrible piece of shit.
I've got one for GC as well as the later-released PS2 version (I'll try to get pics up later, gettin ready for work ftw), they're both pretty worthless.
I have a superscope, an activator ring (with vhs tape!) and probably my favorite is the penguin box. It lets me connect 7 systems to a single tv. I like having everything ready to play, just in case!
edit: I just want to note, when I use the activator ring, I have 3 ac adapters for the genesis/cd/32x and another for the ring. 4 fucking ac adapters to play as a chicken in eternal champions...
totally worth it.
edit36: I also saw that glove at PAX. It was pretty neat. They were using dota to show it off.

Have you tried GlovePIE?
That's a pretty interesting bit of software. The guy who wrote it appears to be a bit of a character too.
Doesn't list the SpaceOrb specifically but I'll try it out, see what happens. Maybe I can use it to play Shattered Horizons and amaze everyone around me with my 6 degrees of freedom!

I still have my Super Scope. Unfortunately, I left the batteries in it years ago. When I finally dug it out of storage a while back, they had exploded. I was able to get 4 of them out, but two of them are stuck and I can't get a grip to dislodge them.
About 6 years ago I got bitten by a Sega Saturn bug and bought all sorts of Saturn-related stuff. I ended up getting two of these:
I also got Virtual On and three Gundam games. I barely played them. Managed to break them out for some gaming gatherings with friends once or twice, and it was OK. I even got two adapters that let me use them with the Dreamcast.
edit: on the other hand, the Saturn accessory that got a lot of use with friends around that same time was the 6-player multitap. I mean, sure, it's a multitap, not that remarkable, but it made 7-player Death Tank Zwei possible. And I ended up getting another one so we could play Saturn Bomberman in 10-player mode.
Did anyone have one of those rumble vest that came out during the PS1 days (there are probably earlier examples too)? Basically a vest you'd wear that promised to really get you into the action by reacting to gunfire and explosions in the game and vibrating, making it feel as if you were there, and all that?
The really amusing thing was that it, of course, simply reacted to bass sounds, so certain soundtracks must have been amusing.
I always wanted that Steel Battalion set too. I do love my SFIV TE stick, and those razor controllers look awesome, and I prefer wired I dunno why people are all drooling over wireless. I never have to change batteries, or realign it at any time so nyah .
I had the Sega version of the Superscope as a kid, the Menacer, and I always wanted the Sega action chair, but they where like 120quid and apparently aweful. I saw one in Toys R us in the Mega Drives end days for 20 but I had no money
I also have Steel Battalion, which is the most immersive game I've ever played, I need to hook my Xbox back up to something one of these days and break it out.
2nd most immersive game/controller combo was getting the MS Racing Wheel, Forza 3 and blasting round in a Ferrari F40 with all assists off.
I also have 2 Hori fighting sticks and a huge range of Guitar Hero instruments, an official Sega Dreamcast steering wheel and lightgun, a Saturn with Virtua Cop and 2 guns and who knows what else cluttering up the place.
Shame none of the old light guns work on new tv's, I always loved the G-Con45, I sold it though
For the PS3 I've been looking at Steering Wheels similar in price and features to the MS Wheel, I have looked at the Logitech Driving Force EX, 2 Ferrari branded wheels (neither seem to have Force Feedback) and the more expensive Logitech wheel (I don't think I can stretch to 100bucks). Does anyone know if any of these are any good to use on your lap?
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, those are the cutest controllers ever. They look so small!
Speaking of Hori Fighting Sticks, has it become impossible to search for the Wii version on EBGames' website? It seems Tatsunoko vs. Capcom has finally made them get sold.
