I reformatted my PC and Chrome was one of the first things I installed. After a while I noticed the icon became the generic file icon. Perplexed, I assumed something happened when I erased the short cut. After uninstalling and reinstalling several times and playing with which browser was set to default I can't get it back or to stay. Whenever I reinstall the icon appears, but for no reason quickly leaves.
I've never seen this and my googling only finds people with the same problem and no solution.
Edit: also, when I go into Chromes properties the icon is still there associated with it. Changing the icon does nothing.
