I hate racing games. I'm loving this. I'm not sure why I find it more accessible, but I'm not eating walls, I'm drifting around corners, and I'm having a good time.

I hate realistic racing games like gran turismo. I love unrealistic games like burnout. I think blur falls into this category. If I want a realistic racing game I'll go drive my car.

but I like realistic racing games because I want realism but I don't have a Porsche 911, Bugatti Veyron, or *insert neato car(s) that costs like $2million dollars*
Now with that said, having played the beta for a few hours this afternoon, this game is pretty awesome. I think they've got a real winner on their hands, and I think this will do for arcade/combat racing games what Call of Duty 4 did to multiplayer action games.
I think some of the abilities could use some changes though. That red powerup that is heatseeking shouldn't be so difficult to avoid. Needing 2 out of 3 of your bullets from the pink powerup kinda sucks considering that it's near impossible to actually avoid and that most of the other powerups don't even stop it.
edit: I felt that Dirt didn't have any character at all and it was totally meh. Grid was soooooo awesome, though some of the race types I'm not a fan of. I feel that they got drifting perfectly balanced between arcade and sim.
Oh man, I had the most awesome wreck earlier, and it just so happened through pure luck that I did it to another PAer (Willeth).
We're coming up on the criss-cross in the docks level. I pick up the push item and drive into the intersection, and activate it right in the middle, hoping to nail somebody in the 20 car crowd..
And I hit Willeth just right and literally just punt him right into the ocean. He wasn't even going that direction, just BAM *flying*

This game is pretty frustrating. It's even worse than Mario Kart Wii about how you get hit with things every three seconds in races with lots of players.
Still really fun, though. I like it!

my first match ever in the game I won. Then I steadily began dropping to average out at like 5th or 6th of 10.
Also, why the hell does everyone vote out wangan for that desert industrial map? That map is ass and wangan is totally awesome.
Only undodgable is the Burst/Force Push, but that can be negated with a shield.
Bolts - Just, uh, dodge them, or Burst them away
Shunts - Either start driving in a snaking S pattern to shake it, or make a sharp turn into a wall and back out. Or, save a burst and wait for the powerup to be right behind you in your rearview mirror and activate it to blow it away.
Lightning - Typically sets itself up so that you have to slalom through it. So generally just go LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT as hard as you can. It seems you can touch a bit of the outside edge of it and not get shocked.
Mines - just keep an eye out for them, really. Don't stick right behind a car for long, and make sure you check mine pickups for a mine right behind them (I do this all the time to people).
LIGHTNING TRICK - on tracks with multiple paths, the lightning zones will be placed on the path that the game is guessing you are aiming to go down. What I like to do sometimes is drive at the far right or center ramp, activate, then steer into one of the other ones. The lightning will go on the path I was aiming at while I drive without having to dodge my own powerup when in first place.
Also seriously, the truck is god tier. I think it's due to how hard it grips the road.. I actually haven't gotten it to powerslide, so it kind just drives right around corners with no speed loss from drifting or the tires slipping. It also seems to be harder to bounce off the ground from jumps or fishtail it. You have to take the hairpin turns reallllly slow though.

I understand what you're saying. I guess I'm just not that into cars. Also, I see the point of putting certain cars in games like gran turismo, but what's the point of putting in cars like a ford focus?

I was actually going to chime in much the same. I LOVE racing games, but for me it's about mimicking motorsport. I love racing class cars and bikes. I'll never drive in a World Touring Car Championship or LeMans race in real life, I'll never sit inside GT or LMP car, so it's cool to have the chance to jump in and race the series I follow.
I'm not a big fan of racing everyday street cars around either. I know people like to soup up a focus or civic in FM or GT and pretend they're at a track day event, but give me the racing cars or exotics anyday.
Back on topic, I am playing Blur, it's a lot of fun. Nice leveling up system with car unlocks and mods too, keeps you going. Doubt I'll buy it, but it is addictive.
And a quick note about PGR5, Turn 10 now holds of the series. When Bizarre split with MS, part of the resources and assets were absorbed by Turn 10. They divided their team, one part to focus on Forza 3 and 4, and the other to work on PGR5. It is still coming.

So, the site is kind of borked now. It brings up a windows login prompt, but my login doesn't work.
If you're still looking to get your beta key, you can just go back to the site where you entered your activation key. Choose your country, then just login with your account info there. The next page now has both the Beta Key and XBLA Trial Key right there. From there, you can see your profile, but I was unable to navigate to it from the main beta site.
If you haven't created an account yet with your activation key (From fileplanet or wherever), you'll still get your beta key once you create the account. There is no more emailing of keys.
This game is awesome, the A class races with a lot of people are a lot of fun, I just wish that gametype had more maps available to it.
Im interested in how the final game works out, there was less than 1000 people on the Beta when I was playing - I put that down to bad advertising for the beta - but since the final game is competing with games like CoD and Halo it doesnt stand a chance even with hours of marketing.
Im going to enjoy it while I can, love the idea's - perfect mix between the CoD style levelling and perk system and the Mario Kart racing.
Yeah, it's just a shame there aren't many A-class cars in the beta. It just turns into twenty yellow coupes on the track, and it narrows the track choice down, too.

20 player racing is astronomical to me for someone who plays Forza 3 and all races have 8 racers on.

my xbox live trial code I don't need, so here it is:
As well as Dirt.

Any word of a demo making it's way to the PS3?
I'm having trouble coming up with a powerup that isn't analogous to Mario Kart. I guess the only one is the close blast thing. It's pretty blatant.

edit: okay, it has pre-orders for PS3... so it looks like the beta is 360 exclusive, but it's still gonna release on PS3.

It's pretty easy to be in position to win the race, then get fucked up by just one person blowing their powerup load.
You talk clean and bomb hospitals, so I speak with the foulest mouth possible

You can dodge pretty much everything.

Tip: Just like homing shells in Mario Kart, the homing missile in this can be shot down with most other weapons.
Thanks!

This.. this is a racing game.
Even a Microsoft employee apologized to Sega Rally fans for that.
