but i am pretty confident after seeing valve's prior actions for so long that they will let you download mac client source engine games free if you own the game

See, the thing is this: Valve on Mac is gonna open up such a larger base of gamers that it alone should recoop the costs. Or, if Valve is not feeling so generous, again I point to the Orange Box (2). After all, the Orange Box did include Hl2 and Ep1 along with everything else...
Isn't the Source engine made with Microsoft's DirectX?
It'd be interesting to see if they recoded everything or if they just added a layer of emulation above the Directx.
Emulation would make the most sense as you wouldn't have to bug fix two different things, but I wonder what the performance hit would be.
They would have to recode it to use OpenGL. Emulation or even just wrapping the DirectX calls to OpenGL is horrendously buggy and slow. Take this from someone who works on Wine
This ARG business is probably just about ports to Mac? Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that's exciting for lots of people, not at all for myself though.
So no evidence of this. I mean, it may be true, or they may just be totally unrelated and are only happening at the same time because A. They're both being announced at GDC or B. Valve really like screwing with us. (I vote B.)

For the love of Pete, Valve is teasing plot details for Portal 3. There's no way in hell it's just for this mac stuff. Don't even waste posts entertaining the idea.

I have it on good authority from my Mac owning friends that games are for kids, and Mac owners naturally don't care about them but are more concerned other more important things. :P

Such as bootcamping into the "worse OS" to play their "kiddie games"?

My great intelligence tells me that if this was only for Mac ports, a lot of people would be pissed at being cockteased, and I think Valve understands this.
There are 3 valuable assets that I can think of: The companion cube, a GlaDOS sphere, and the Cake.
The portal gun itself. Could be something at the end of chamber 19. I'm going through the entire game just to be sure. Shouldn't take long when I don't have to think about radios.

Yeah, after I started re-playing Portal again just now, I realized the Portal gun is the biggest asset. Unfortunately, as I have switched comps since 2008 I don't have a save at the end, and I'm currently in chamber 18. So I can't go poking around.
Rumor: <Eran> WHEN YOU FINISH THE GAME, YOU HEAR A ROBOT SAYING "Please enter the party escort submission position" and you're dragged away from the burning AS building
edit:
Not confirmed new title screen.
edit2:
New ending confirmed.
You are lying on the parking lot, you are getting dragged away by a robot who says:
Thankyou for assuming party escort position, or something along those lines
You don't see the robot, your camera is just getting dragged away
There is nothing different otherwise

Did Chell die at the end? I hear people say it but I never saw that happen.

I miss when Apple would throw in a free game or two with their new computers. I wouldn't have played THPS4 otherwise.

Not before my engie update!!!
Left 4 Dead 2 seems more than adequate for a modern day game.

I meant Counter-Strike: Source, not the engine.

Oh. Heh.
Can't really argue with that, then.

Read this aloud in the voice of GlaDOS.
&
maybe somebody drags Chell's body away at the end? She could be an asset to be retrieved.
