No network connectivity...sometimes

Operating system is XP, SP3.

Occasionally when I boot my computer the network connectivity program just doesn't load. Everything else loads fine (my firewall, antivirus, yahoo, etc.), but that little icon that shows the two tv screens lighting up and going dark is absent. And, of course, no internet connection. Restarting fixes the problem.

My primary question: How can I manually start this feature? If this happens, it would be so much quicker to just "run the program" that makes this pop up than to restart, but unlike all my other programs I can't just double click on an icon to run it (or if I can, I have no idea where the icon is).

Secondary question: why does it do this? It had done it for the longest time, at two different addresses, but I figured it for a problem with my XP install. Well, I recently did an install and it's still happening.

I guess if it happens regardless of internet company, modem, and fresh/old install, it must be shitalicious network hardware. My network 'card' is built into my mobo, it's an Asus.

Have you downloaded the latest network drivers for your mobo?
    If no, do that.

If the network hardware is built in, it's obviously not a connection issue, it's some sort of software issue most likely.

If you know the model name of your mother board google the model + network problem, if you're experiencing this issue, odds are others have seen the same thing.

If you don't know, go get sisoftware's sandra lite, look up the model of your mobo, and then do the above.

OK, I updated my LAN drivers. Now it's wait and see if the problem reoccurs.
