That's interesting, but all it means (if true) is that the replication plants have policies against adult titles. It doesn't mean "Sony bans porn on Bluray" like many seem to infer from that. As I said, when more plants come online, these "little guys" will get their shot. (Though heh, dunno how little porn is 8)
Either way, I don't think porn will decide the format war this time around, for multiple reasons.

But, in fact, Sony hold the majority stake of all the Blu Ray lines ATM, and it's their policy.
So yeah, until another line can get up and running, and be certified by the Blu Ray Consortium, AND get certified on the premise that they will be handling independent/foreign/porno grade titles (many small runs of different titles), than it is as good as banned.

If you want jwalk, think of it as this.
I want a satellite dish on my apartment. Due to laws here my landlord can not deny me from doing so, but can require a $500 to $1,000 deposit to do so. This essentially bans me from installing said satellite dish. Due to this, I decide to leave after my lease and go to a complex that does allow me to put up said dish without a deposit.
Porn wants BD, Sony has made barriers effectively banning it without explicitly saying so, Porn moves to HD-DVD.
Do we really want to see hi-def turd chunks and ass acne?
Good point. I'm all for aliased porn.
BUT! Since I'm a Sony shareholder, I find this news... frightening to say the least. The two most powerful forced in the economy are the military and the porn industry.
We need some "family values" activists to speak up. Hey Wal-Mart, why don't you ban HD DVD to help my stock soar?
I don't know if it's been mentioned, but Sony forbid pornography on Betamax as well.
Now, you can't claim lack of porno as the reason the format failed, but it certainly would be a factor.
Well as has been said for many years now; So goes the porn, so goes the industry.

HD-DVD and Blu-ray will both lose to DVD if the industry doesn't realize that they can't charge $30 for a movie no matter how many lines of resolution it has.

This would be a more poignant observation if DVDs hadn't cost just as much when they first came out. They were between $20-35, just like HD-DVDs and Blu-ray movies are. (Well, $20-25 for most HD-DVDs and $25-35 for most Blu-ray.)

HD-DVD has Universal, and porn.
Bluray has Buena Vista (Touchstone, Disney, Miramax), Fox, Colombia, MGM, Sony and Lion's Gate.....
edit: Oops, porn too. (slightly NSFW) This article is from today.

Yes, there are plenty of Blu-ray movies for $20. But in my experience, most of them are $30. I went into a Target the other day, and out of curiosity, I examined the prices. There were 18 each of Blu-ray and HD-DVD titles. For Blu-ray, there were 3 selling for $20, and 15 selling for $30. For HD-DVD, there were 14 selling for $20, and 4 selling for $30. I have little reason to believe this is a dramatic departure from the norm. When I went to Best Buy, I didn't count as I did at Target, but there seemed to be a lot more Blu-ray disks selling for $30+ than HD-DVD, and the only HD-DVD selling for more than $30 at all was Superman Returns, which was only expensive because it was a DVD/HD-DVD combo disk.

I've noticed that a lot too with quite a bit of research that BR are usually and overwhelmingly more expensive than HD-DVDs
Oh god this again. This was debunked like... minutes after being posted.
Vivid, the largest distributor of adult video in the world is releasing on Bluray (actually, on both formats). I'd link some of the articles but... NSFW and all... Google is your friend.
Vivid has yet to release anything in either format. And they're only planning on releasing four titles in HD for all of 2007. Also, Hirsch was saying this in November, probably anticipating the PS3 to sell way the hell more units than it did. It should also be noted that Vivid, while the largest studio in the industry, only does about $100M in annual revenue, in a multibillion dollar industry. They're no where near a deciding factor in the format war. The porn industry as a whole will have to adopt one format over the other to make a significant impact. Four titles in HD for the whole year isn't going to make much of a difference.
That said, it should be mentioned that while major studios can afford to use Blu-Ray discs, many smaller studios (and there are a LOT of them) can't afford to. They'll likely go HD-DVD. Not to mention HD-DVD has a larger hardware install base currently. Sony is going to have to seriously reduce the price of their players or the pricetag on the PS3 if they want to gain marketshare. HD-DVD is cheaper for both studios and consumers, which is a very large factor that they don't seem to be acknowledging.
EDIT: Just saw the link posted about Debbie Does Dallas...Again, which makes my post even more pertinent. Now they're going to do an HD-DVD release too. They probably saw how many drives the 360 has sold.

I guess someone doesn't know how much good porn costs on DVD. $30 is on the low end.

I think 'good porn' is the operative word here; for good porn, $30 is very close to the price point. a 3-disc extravaganza like 'pirates' will run you $37, while something like 'island fever 3' is more like $24.
of course, $3 is about right for 'buttsluts from beyond neptune #479' from your local smut shop. but those titles are still coming out on VHS; I don't think that the HD/BD war is really going to affect them.
This is only one of the issues. Sony also hates Jews and newborns. Their blood powers their war of terror on unsuspecting consumers. We should make another fifty threads on the issue! Death to Sony! Holy war!

Have any anime titles been announced for HD-DVD? So far I've only heard of AIR and (I think) Evangelion getting blu-ray releases.
edit: I forgot Patlabor 2 on HD-DVD. I fail, considering that's my favourite movie of all time and I learned of the HD release only yesterday.
Cowboy Bebop is on the HD-DVD promotions group master list.
So yeah.
Looks like I'll be jumping on the HD bandwagon sometime soon then. Wings of Honneamise + CB + Patlabor? Bloody hell.
So they're actually going to rescan anime for HD discs Evangelion style? Cool.
I doubt they'd bother remastering Cowboy Bebop into a widescreen aspect ratio though. They'd literally have to choreograph the entire thing from scratch.

How can HD-DVD hold the future of pornography when sites all over the net advertise hours of fapping material in gloriously sticky high-definition?
Because, believe it or not, most pornconsumers have not realised the potential with "I will download and have a look". Guess they havent heard of empo*****

Asian Lesbians on your 21" Monitor or Asian Lesbians on your 60" HDTV?
I think that the average porn DVD consumer has a larger television or a more comfortable seating arangement around said television than they do at their computer. And a lot of couples watch porn together. It's a lot easier on the couch/bed than it is trying to squeeze to chairs next to each other to see it on a monitor.
Unless you have a media sharing PC setup in your home, downloading and then streaming your Asian Lesbians to your HDTV... which would be the best of both worlds.
Also, I dunno if this was mentioned, but I think Toshiba has made a triple-layer HD-DVD disc, which brings the capacity up to 51 gigs (though another site says 45 gigs). Anyway, 51 gigs would make the capacity larger than a single Blu Ray disc. So, Blu Ray technology is kind of stupid in my opinion.
