So, after a hiatus from the game... I've been playing again and I've got to say, I love the backburner. It's a bit ridiculous in how underpowered it can be. I'm pretty sure at full power, you run slower than a scout or medic.
I'd like to take some time and write this post to address any and all of you who would screw around doing nothing except take up a player slot in some misguided attempt at "protesting a map choice".
The server is full, and will be full if you leave. What the fuck is wrong with you people? Why do I have three heavies on my team, with their boxing gloves out, crouch-walking around the map? What are you trying to accomplish? If you don't like the map either play like you would play normally, as horrible as it might be, or don't be on the server at all. Go screw around on a pub. Go take your cats for a walk. I don't care. Just don't be on my team when you decide you aren't going to do anything that resembles being productive.
The ironic thing is, if you wanted to get to a different and/or better map it would've been faster if you had just sacked up and killed mans. Instead of ending the map with 30 seconds left on the clock we might've ended it with 15 minutes left on the clock, or more.
And don't take this as me being angry that my team lost - we didn't. We won in spectacular fashion. It's that it's incredibly frustrating when I get teamed-up on by the enemy team knowing in the back of my head that if they didn't have a three- or four-person advantage I might not have been killed by the scattergun to my buttocks. I also hate stupid, childish ingrates who decide ruining everyone else's fun is more important than just having some patience.
I'd probably just leave the server myself at that point. No reason to hang around jackasses when there's plenty of other servers out there with room for folks.
Hey UEAKCrash, let me know as soon as you want your new release playtested. There is a drastic shortage of decent maps to test those days.
I've finally started working on that new project of mine. But crafting from scratch is really hard... you've got to enclose everything, add all logic, and it's appalingly ugly. But everymap was like this at one point, though.

Dear Ebo,
You keep killing me. Eat a bag of dirty cocks. Also, have the decency to die when I flame your ass, you dirty hippie.
We had about three crouching, punching heavies that round f'sheez. The weird part was that you couldn't get a word out of 'em, not even the typically talkative ones. I don't know if it was some kind of in-joke or what, but yeah, it was frustrating only having one Heavy who could actually use a weapon.
That we somehow managed to win the map is a testament to what a kritz'd Ebo can accomplish.

This one time I went punching Heavy in protest, but still had a medic. I managed to get just as many kills as I would have had a used guns. It was great.

You been catching any of FishyB's streams? It's pretty remarkable how he maps.
He blocks out the basic flow.. like, put the CP's and spawn rooms where he wants them, and then just starts buildin. He never uses temp textures.. he builds fully textured rooms as he goes, organically filling out the map.
It's pretty neat to watch, I'm not sure I could work that way.

There was this one game on Hyrdo about a year back where my team was getting beat pretty solidly. It was that stage with the cave-of-doom and we were trying to push towards the radar dish. I'd switched classes several times trying to find something effective, most recently the heavy.
Was still getting trashed pretty bad.. so I went punching heavy. Bust out of the cave right into a wave of enemies, I killed at least 5 of them with crit kgb action. We make a push for the CP, and win the round.
Next round.. half the server is punching heavy. Not the result I intended but I'll take it.
So punching heavy can be effective, you just have to wait for the stars to align.

I watched it for a bit. I was pretty confused at first and kind of wondered if that is how all mappers work. I saw him copy a ramp and move it out in the middle of nowhere and I was like "whats he doin" and then he turns the camera and it is just the CP and a ramp in the middle of gray endlessness.

No I didn't, but from the look of it, I work quite differently. I create my spawn then I work my way to the objective onward. With very basic rooms, because I can afford dev textures playtesting. Steel is a nice map, but it feels like he lacked space to work at the end, and this made the map quite intricated.
The very first play test was quite epic : at round end, both teams spawned in the same room
Asiina, the one who constantly builds teleporters that clip? (yes, i saw her doing this after ebo yelled a her on the forums)
or, when she convinces that admins to play with heavily modified weapons everywhere, and tells you to go play on another server when you say that you'd like to play the game with, a full server and real weapons? and yes, it was a full server. job agreed, but it didn't stop her yelling over voice at me.
So, has she expanded er griefing repetoire to include "protesting maps"? I didn't see it, but it wouldn't surprse me?

She's done the map protest thing forever. I don't know why people put up with her.
I can't remember the last time Asiina was on the servers and was not protesting the current map.
He/she/it apparently sees TF2 as nothing more than Skype. Best thing to do is just find another server to play on, because there's nothing you can do.
Honestly. I check the server before I join and if I see Asiina on, the majority of the time I just hop on reddit or fug or somewhere instead. Most Asiina games are only enjoyable if you have no desire to actually play the game anymore.

Cause she has a vagina?
To be honest though, Asiina has been doing this since the dawn of time, way before most of you guys have even been on here.
She's even done it on Gravelpit with a full server, just building useless troll teleporters that get you stuck in spawn. (this is like 2 years ago and she still does it)
Soooo I'm not even sure it has to do with a bad map, just whenever she feels like doing it and wasting a slot.
Honestly, if you get annoyed by people joking around occasionally and/or complaining about map choices maybe the PA servers aren't the place for you. That's just my opinion though!

That's not the problem, or the answer. I'll play goofy maps, goofy setups, melee only, whatever, when the server isn't full. It's a completely different story when the server is full, people are trying to play the game, and you have one person griefing their own team. I'm sorry, but "just stay away" isn't the answer. I mean, I thought there was an anti-griefing policy?
I'm not saying "just stay away", I'm having trouble understanding why you would want to play on the PA servers in the first place if you don't like the things that makes them what they are.

Did you ever play a Scout when he was on the server? It was like asking for a torture chamber's worth of abuse for your birthday, and by birthday I mean every time he respawned.
Truly, it made me proud to be a sports rat from Boston that day.

it's honestly kinda bittersweet to be the top player on the losing team
it's like
have I been doing well, or has everyone else just been doing really badly
Please note however that I have no skills of the artist.
Also, the dialog is written in a manner that strikes me funny late at night.
I will probably be filled with regret and delete this post tomorrow.
So save it while you can.

I appreciate this comic. It made me smile.
In fact I am going to make a spray out of it.
Re: punching heavies last night: They weren't just going punching heavy, though, they were going TURTLE HEAVY. Permanently crouched punching heavies.

You know, Goomba got banninated, and he never repetitively, constantly griefed his own team. He actually played the game, and was quite good at it.

Goomba was quite different in the servers than in the forums, or maybe he wasn't different at all?
Only thing I know is he played fair and competent. Never bitched or grieved in the servers.
