I am starting to get really fed up with the Medic AI. Stop casting Cura once and then chilling out. Especially when there's only one person at half and everyone else at 3/4. Cast Cure multiple times.
Healer AI kinda sucks sometimes. Worst is sab though. Once they apply all the debuffs they stand there doing nothing. They could spam any debuff, deal some damage and maintain the stagger gauge, but noooooooo.

There's something to be said for the brevity of Final Fantasy 1. (Playing the PSP remake)
5 minutes, and you're out the door, off to go kill the baddie.

And if multiple people are in the red cast Curaja twice not cure oh my god

I think it would be hard for me to find room for a rav/rav/rav paradigm with only 6 slots. Com/rav/rav is much more general purpose, and most commandos get abilities that do mean stuff to staggered enemies, Launch being the best example.
So now that I've started Ch. 11, I'm ready to dip my feet into weapon crafting, and maybe running around a bit and doing random sidequests. Thing is, I'm not sure where to begin. Anybody got any tips on how to get the ball rolling, like how to earn some gil or the best monsters to fight for CP, things like that?
Chapter 11 Spoilers.
If you follow your quest marker, you'll eventually get to a place with weaker enemies, (Mah'habara) who gives tons of CP, and also some good materials (bomb cores) good for starters in the area, you can always hop back out to the plains again,
for money, the best bet is chocobo treasure hunting until you get stronger, which you'll unlock eventually through Ci'eth missions.
I also found a guide site for missions 1-30. It shows the locations, marks, class, unlock condition, rewards, and even links to video guides on how to five star them.
It also has links to other FF XIII guides. One of them is on the Chocobo Treasure Hunt, and has a list of all the items you can find and the chance of finding them. Pretty sweet.
I have a feeling I'll be grinding the Chocobo Treasure Hunt until I've at least mastered the second tier weapons for the characters.
Also, I'm on chapter ten right now and hording all my CP. I this a good idea for when the Crystarium expands again? Everything else is so damn expensive.

Now midway through Chapter 11, two issues with game mechanics:
* Brick wall instead of difficulty curve. I go from pwning things to getting pwned. AND F*CK YOU BEHEMOTHS
* Positioning makes a huge difference against monsters who swipe, but I have no control over it... so my ability to heal dmg in time is sometimes wholly dependent on luck. And again, F*CK YOU BEHEMOTHS

Yeah, there are some frustrating aspects to the combat in FFXIII. Some battles can be complete romps on your part because the monsters just can't do a thing. Other times despite an optimal setup your party groups as tight as possible and is destroyed by area of effect attacks or spells.
It is a harsh game and as for Behemoths, never fight them from the front. Only sneak up on them and hit them in the butt!
You sort of do. Start your future Sentinel as a Commando to get them up in the grill of the enemy and then switch em to Sentinel. They should hang close for a while. Anyways, Behemoths give you like 5 hours to buff before they do anything noteworthy, so just get yourself ready for the battle when it starts.
On the accessory upgrading front: does leveling up Auto-[Buff] accessories increase the amount of time they last? Because these would be useful, except they last all of 3-5 'turns'

You're not suppose to be fighting King Behemoths or the other large monsters in the area until later in the game.
edit: You can only upgrade them one level, Blackjack so I would assume no. I did it anyway since it's less than 1k exp and I like the *, but I don't think it actually does anything. I believe the purpose of the Auto-X accessories is for normal fights since they give a buff that isn't calculated into the time you're suppose to take for the rating. For boss battles I try to equip something else and use a synergist for the longer lasting buffs.
I'm doing a little FAQ to add to the new OP. Here's what I have so far:
-Chapter 4's end boss (Odin)
-Chapter 9's end boss
-Don't buy Collector Catalogues
-What's a Role Level Do
-How Can I Screw The Crystarium Up (Not!)
-A Very Short Introduction to Upgrading
-What Can I Do In Chapter 11?
Any more suggestions for frequent topics?
People really have trouble with Odin?
Odin thus far is the only thing to have given me real trouble in the game, except for the super monsters.
They really should have made some of the achievement points for fun weird stuff instead of all that 5 starring my ass, for example "Doll Collector" I've found a Chocobo, Moogle and a Cactuar doll, seems they are only for money though.
I get him down about 2/3 to 3/4 then out of nowhere he curses my party and kills my leader before I can do any healing.
This is seriously the only time during the whole game so far I've had this much trouble during a fight.
Is the Chapter 10 boss
Cid
?
Because that's who I just faced and defeated this very second and boy it was a tough fight. Took awhile, but once again this Lightning/Fang/Hope party ensures everyone makes it out alive without much trouble. I didn't get any stars, though.
13 minute fight!

Yeah he's a real asshole. I found that I needed to keep him near staggered and then go for broke when he guarded. Once you get him launched with low HP it's all over red rover for him.
Edit: Is it me, or are a lot of people using Lightning/Fang/Hope? I've been rocking around with that party for a while and it does such a great job.

I just switched to Bully paradigm (COM/SAB/SYN) when he was guarding, then as soon as he came out I'd go to Combat Clinic (MED/SEN/MED) to get heal quickly. Then I'd switch back to attacking. Rinse and repeat and he wasn't a problem at all. It just took awhile, as I said.
Really? I 5-starred him with Lightning/Fang/Hope in about two minutes.
Make sure you buff yourself and debuff him (Medic/Sab/Syn so he'll go into a defensive pose and not attack while you're doing it, even). You can stick curse and slow on him, so he'll barely ever attack. Then, after you stagger him with Com/Rav/Rav switch to Com/Com/Rav and keep him Launched at all times.

Yeah, my strategy is high risk by the reward is 5 stars and he never gets to kick your ass at any point. It's so satisfying to break his guard and then ruin his shit.
After hearing so many people having problems with the Chapter 9 boss I thought I was in for something, but wow that was really rather easy. I'm really not sure how you would have much trouble with that.
So I saw multiple people asking for what it takes to upgrade weapons and stuff. I'm transcribing the information from the guide book, but it's taking awhile. Everyone should be listed now.
The two numbers at the end represent max str/max mag for that weapon max level. All 2nd tier take Trapezohedron to upgrade to Tier 3. Tier 3 all max out at lvl 100.
I can't break his guard. His meter takes forever to build, and I constantly have to slow down my attacks with buff/debuff/healing. By the time I get him close to break, he just unloads on my party leader and kills her way faster than I can hope to heal.
Okay, I think Chapter 12 is the best for money until post-game.
Farming the sacrifices for Perfumes -- it's their common drop, and they sell for 12,500 each. They're really easy to five star, too, so with the Item Drop+ accessory, you're pretty much guaranteed to get them

I may have used Bully too much instead of just attacking to build up the Stagger meter. That may have been why it took so long. I should have just used Relentless Assault most of the time, but I was being way too cautious.

I am also dissapointed that the curasa is such an underwhelming upgrade from normal cure. I wasn't hoping for anything crazy like a game-breaking insta-heal.... OK I was.
Does Setzer die in a cutscene as an irrelevant cannon fodder character?
That reminds me: there is a lot of feathered hair in this game. In fact, my roommate made the same comment, and I told him they were auditioning for a hair metal band.
I now want my joke to be an actual plot development. Lightning would be lead guitar. Fang would be drums. Snow as lead vocalist. Sazh as bass guitar. Not sure what Vanille and Hope would take, though. Synthesizer and rhythm guitar, maybe?

It's nice when you're down a lot. It can cure more than 1000 a pop when you're hurting. Same for Curaja.

Vanille would just wave that fishing rod thing she carries.

Is it true there's a teleporter in Chapter 13 that pops you back to the Chapter 11 area? So I could potentially continue on, open up more Crystarium levels, farm those creatures in Chapter 12, and then go back to the Chapter 11 area before the final boss?

UGH. You might get tired of seeing ICE BREAK all the time, but it's better than the alternative.
