I wouldn't really call it an excuse. It's exponentially more difficult to maintain a good KDR when you're trying to attack objectives without a decent squad to watch your back. A lot of games I feel like I'm running solo into enemy territory because the rest of my team is too busy dressing up like a tree and camping the nearest hill to help me blow shit up.

I think the Angry Dome's resident knife-wielding psycho is Jaunty. He's got almost 400 uniques, with something like 1000 tags total. I've only got 600 :?
And MW2 has little to do with knife kills in Battlefield. Stabbin Dudes has been a time honored tradition in BF games since at least BF2
Well BC2 doesn't have a knife charge does it? I also like how using it does kind of disallow you from firing for a bit which in some situations can seriously fuck you.

It does have a slight lunge. But it's not instantaneous like it is in MW2. In MW2 if the enemy is close enough for the lunge to occur you're straight up fucked. They'll lunge towards you and gut you like a fish in less than half a second. In BC the lunge doesn't have much range, it's not instant(meaning you can be shot mid lunge pretty easily), and seemingly can be side stepped if you time it right.
One thing I don't like about knife is that on non-hardcore servers, in a 1 on 1 close quarters "surprise" battle, you can usually win by knifing since it takes so many bullets to drop a guy. Maybe it's because I'm new to BF series, but in other FPS games, melee against someone who sees you with a gun = dead instantly.
Knives have been in BF since 1942. Of course then they weren't always 1-hit kills, and they were a weapon you selected. When you emptied your gun and your side arm you whipped out your knife unless you were spineless. You also didn't shoot two guys going at it with knives.
The way knifing is now is far more practical, but I'd be lying if I didn't miss old fashion knife fights.
