Never had a problem with steam (well, small niggles when steam first launched, but everyone already knows about that), so I stand by their "customer-service oriented" mantra.
Logitech's really good too, they're always very helpful when I need help getting my stuff fixed.
Anyway, does anyone have a link for the Steam UI Beta? I wanna try that new UI, and I can't find a link to it anywhere.
You know, part of me is really happy we have Gabe and the people at Valve around. Another part of me is terrified, because if we didn't have them, we would be so screwed.
We are really, really lucky.
I'd think that was just bullshit, but they do seem to have a 'serve the customer' attitude: I ordered some stuff from the store for a Christmas present and it didn't arrive on time, so they sent it again even though the small print said they didn't have to. Both turned up in the end so i've got two Black Mesa mugs and portal posters now.
When the store was first available, I went to order some stuff and wound up with $30 shipping to Alaska. I got pissed, cursed out Valve on the forum, and was generally in a sour mood about getting screwed yet again for living in the great white north.
Then I got a PM from someone who worked at the Valve store and asked me if I wanted to be a guinea-pig for a new shipping setup that wound up only requiring me to pay like $6. Needless to say, I felt kinda bad for getting pissed at them. Valve is good people.

Just load up Steam and check one of the menus. There's an option for opting into betas.

Open up Steam and go to settings, there should be something for current betas you're participating in. You can select the UI beta there.
You sure can. You can either use the symbolic link method I outlined here to create a link between your Dropbox folder and the Plants vs. Zombies folder using the command line (obviously just take my direction and apply them to your desired directories), or you can follow the how-to at dd-gamer, which directs you to a nice little program that makes the link for you.
Some games like Puzzle Quest have a specific folder for save games, which is nice, while others have the game saves in folders that are shared with other data. As long as you can keep the folder sizes small (you're limited to a couple of GB with Dropbox) it doesn't matter.
Is the link directional or does it not matter where the saves are written to? As in do I need to make sure the files exist on the Dropbox folder before they go onto the Save Game folder or does it all sort of become the same thing?
1) Copy the P v Z folder with the game saves in it into Dropbox.
2) Delete the P v Z folder in .../steamapps/common
2) Set up the link in the "common" folder using the program listed above or the command prompt. You only have to copy the files to Dropbox once, but you'll have to set up a link on each computer you'll want to use PvZ on.
From that point on, each computer will automatically get redirected to the dropbox folder when it wants to launch PvZ. It's completely transparent as far as the OS is concerned. You'll see what looks like a folder shortcut in the .../steamapps/common folder. That's the link - if you ever want to revert back to normal you can just delete that link and copy the folder back from Dropbox, or reinstall from Steam.
Man, I had the best experience with that part once. I just chucked the can at the combine, it bounced off his head, and landed in the garbage can. He didn't even hit me with his stun stick.
Guild wars has no fee but micro transactions for space and a few quest packages. At this point, everyone is trying to tap that so they can have a robust character for Guild Wars 2. I pray to God that the artbook is accurate and we get a fantasy Renaissance game so I can go finish learning Italian and smack talk a giant furball as we fence.
Surprised my sig updated to dark forces, wasn't aware I was playing it that much.
Speaking of Star Wars, anyone bugged that the duchess Satine has the Marathon logo as a piece of jewelry on her giant forehead in the Clone Wars cartoon?
edit:
Oh, its tales of valor now. Its funny that the tank mission was the easiest one in the American campaign but was also the most dramatic.
So a combine, [strike]a S.T.A.L.K.E.R.[/strike] and a Porcupine walk into a bar, and the bartender is Gordon Freeman so he shoots them on sight. The End.
So Gordon Freeman walks into 100 Rads and barkeep trades him some meat for his crowbar.
Why exactly did Valve have Square Enix week THIS WEEK? The one week that squenix fans WON'T be using their computers so much and will probably be devoting their time to one of two other gaming platforms?
Fine Valve, don't have my money - see if I care!

I don't think it's like Squeenix was unaware of this sale.
Thats...actually not a bad idea. Although the less I spend now, the sooner I can afford to upgrade...ahhh dilemma!
I just spent all my spare money upgrading my graphics card/psu last Sunday. Then I have no money at all and they released all these amazing deals for the next 5 days.
I passed on a retail copy of AA for $12 at Target (on clearance); if you're really interested in paying lowest possible price then that's probably an avenue you should check out.
Okey-doke, stupid question: I'm transferring all my shit to a new PC but, as usual, can't remember the exact details of my password (I've got an idea, you know, but I've also got passwords for like 15 other things to remember) and password recovery's useless because they changed my secret question the last time I did it, but I have auto-login set on my old computer and have the drive enclosed and the steam directory open. Anyone got an idea what file holds would hold that stuff?
Yes how horrible it is to only get 7 deals this week instead of the usual one. Steam is such a piece of shit.
And seriously, Arkham Asylum for $22 but you HAVE to get another game for free at the same time? What the hell. I say we boycott.
I deleted my entire steam folder five minutes ago, because fuck this shit.
It only took 5 minutes to delete the entire folder?

I bought The Dig because, why not, and I'm really enjoying it thus far.
This shouldn't surprise me because I like adventure games and this is one frequently mentioned that I hadn't played yet.

Hmm.
Anyone else who has played The Dig under vista? I can't bring up the save/load menu, it says that the key should be F5 but that isn't working because nothing happens.
Anyone with any love of tower defense should buy Defense Grid. They just came out with a couple free DLC levels and are going to an 8 level expansion in April for money.
I have this on 360 and love it. If it's every super cheap on Steam I will not feel bad about owning it twice.

Um, it's the Combine. (Metro Cop)
Yep.
But to give him credit, you can't understand a word they say, so maybe that's what he imagined them saying?
A.. A Porcupine?
New enemy for Episode 3.

BTW, when does the steam store update today?

Then Freeman starves in a tunnel.
All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.

Read the fine print -- Friday's deal is the weekend deal.

As glad as I am for other people; I'm a selfish bastard and I didn't see a single game I wanted/could play on this junk-pile of a PC.

I almost racked up a credit card bill
stuff is very vague as to what you are looking for
edit; yeah xzzy is more correct, it would store it for offline use i presume, but most definitely not in a human readable format
Although come to think of it, maybe a copy-paste of my old Steam data into the new folder would do the trick.
Nope, when Steam sees that the hardware has changed, it'll prompt you to re-enter your password.
It only took 5 minutes to delete the entire folder?

Seriously, though, they should pay you to play Just Cause 1.
