I actually like the alternate OpenGL renderer DLL better than the DX10 one, because it fixed the "Moving too fast" bug for me. I had that bug even after applying the fix.
Also, I think only OpenGL works with the New Vision textures. At least, it's the one that comes in the pack and is mentioned in the instructions, whereas Direct3D isn't mentioned at all.
Also liberty island is one of the hardest parts of the whole game due to the fact your so underpowered with no good weapons. Keep at it and you'll be well rewarded.
What? Admittedly, I've played it before, but I just non-lethally took out almost every NSF soldier on Hard difficulty with the riot baton, prod and tranquilizer darts.
I should have clarified and said on your first time through. Quite a few people were turned off by liberty island, came back to the game years later, powered through and found out why people enjoy it so much. I'll admit to being one of those who were turned off by liberty island and put the game down for a year before coming back and finishing it. With that said it's one of the few games I own were I've replayed it more than five times.
If someone can gift me IW I would be happy to pay them back with something that doesn't suck in a couple of weeks. I'm super broke and won't get an advance until May.
You must be hella broke. I just added you as a friend on Steam; once you accept the request I can hook you up. Or just let me know what email address I can send it to.
I noticed the High Definition Texture Project for Deus Ex doesn't work without a CD version of the game. Do any other major mods not work with the steam version alone or not work at all?

Everyone one of you fuckers best have Deus Ex in your steam account now.
A real Deus Ex lover would [strike]still have the original disc and packaging. :P[/strike] buy it again on Steam.
I'd find it difficult to call anyone who wouldn't shell out $2.50 for the convenience of playing the game through Steam a "real Deus Ex fan". Invisible War? Eh, whatever.
Why on earth would I shell out for a game I already own just to get the pleasure of having to boot up Steam every time I feel like playing it? By the time Steam would have finished loading I'm already busy throwing cans of Lemon Lime soda on Gunther.

I think I'll pass on DE. I have the original disc in a box somewhere and having it on Steam would make things easier, but I honestly don't think I'll ever play it again. It was (is) good, but I can't get past how clunky and dated it looks, and I thought it looked like that even back when it was released.
I couldn't care less about the second game, really.
I noticed the High Definition Texture Project for Deus Ex doesn't work without a CD version of the game. Do any other major mods not work with the steam version alone or not work at all?
Huh. Didn't know that. Looks like another case of "replace the exe with the retail exe and it works".
Is GTA IV still a horrible port of a great game? I was thinking of picking up Episodes of Liberty City but I don't know if it's worth it. I wish there was more stuff to do in GTA IV. I really miss those taxi/vigilante/fire truck missions.
For some reason GTA games always get kinda stale after a while.

They did recently release a patch to coincide with the episodes that supposedly alleviated a bunch of issues from the release version (though I have no first-hand experience with it because I'm pretty much done with GTA).
Say what you what about Rockstar's effort with the game, that's still far more support than most developers give to their games anymore, especially on the PC, so it counts for something I think.

When I bought Steam Deus Ex about 3 years ago, I used the HDTP and models with it no problem. Didn't have to replace the EXE or anything - and I don't think they've updated it since the 2006 'demo' version.
Also, despite everyone throwing up arms over DE:IW, now's as good a time to play it as any. It's no longer the loathed sequel that squandered all the potential of its predecessor - it's an arcadey relic of that brief period of endearingly clunky OXbox FPSs, with sidequests and dialogue and pretty decent pacing. It's an entirely pleasant game to play through, with no real frustrations - people are treating it like it's Tunnel Rats or something.
That being said, if DE3 is as poor as some of the previews have hinted my soul will scream.

Its fairly solid now. you still need a decent CPU to get it going though. Personally I'm enjoying Just Cause 2 alot more than I did with any GTA game.

I bought Episodes, and I think it plays fine. It looks great, but it still doesn't run as well on my system as it should, being a game from 2007. That said, it's scaleable and I have no problems with it otherwise.

No, it's still pretty horrible.
You've obviously never played a truly terrible game then.

Looks like Michael Anthony Hall from one of his 80's uber-nerd roles.
should I play DE vanilla first or get these high texture mods, or the drifter one? This is the first time I have ever played the game.
Best to stick to things that don't change the core experience, so go with the texture pack - it stops all the horrific texture blurring when you get close to objects, but is otherwise pretty faithful. Don't bother with the character models though - they've only done a few, they're not terribly attractive and jar horribly with the look of the world.
See, that's what I've been saying. We're not in 2003 anymore, we have a plethora of good games at our fingertips and consoles aren't nearly as limiting a factor in PC game development - the war is over. Deus Ex exists in its own pocket of history, and so does this. I think time has been kinder to it than many of its contemporaries.
Trine and Deus Ex Collection received for less than the price of a dinner! Is it wrong that the only time I look at the steam store is strictly to look at the "Specials" tab?
So it looks like Macbeta emails were sent out. Thanks to this thread for getting me the news. 8-)
I hate you so much :x
P.S. Out of curiosity anything else in the NDA besides screenshots?
Hey, sorry for the late response on this. Although I didn't see an "official" NDA about this, the initial email says "Do not distribute the software, screenshots, or other information." So I guess I can't share the experience

Did I miss where we gush about P.B. Winterbottom? Cause this game is so good. It's like that one level in Braid expanded out to the length of a whole game, and it's really hard to start thinking fourth-dimensionally but oh-so-satisfying when you've beat your head against a wall for twenty minutes and then go "oh" and clear the screen in about five seconds.

You're a really terrible excuse of a human being.
And GTAIV is quite playable. I really loved it.
I am going to be all about those Liberty City episodes when they go on sale. Are they stand-alone though? I own GTA IV boxed but want to get the episodes on steam, will that even be possible?

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City includes both The Lost and Damned, and The Ballad of Gay Tony together and does not require a copy of the original Grand Theft Auto IV to play. In The Lost and Damned, experience Liberty City as Johnny, a veteran member of The Lost, a notorious biker gang.

Note that if you buy them separately, you will not have access to GTA IVs soundtrack within the episodes. They give you three new stations to make up for it, but they're not as good in my opinion.

Put me in the camp of have-the-disc-still-dropped-five-bucks. And I've never played invisible war, so I guess I can give it a shot. I liked Project Snowblind, so I don't have very high standards.
One thing about Liberty Island; at least it puts the worst experience in the game up front, so once you've gotten through it things get steadily better. I'm replaying HL2 and Sandtraps is sucking my will to live.
