Edit: Hey, seven bucks for all of FFXI. How much is that game's monthly fee?
30 free days of play included in the package and then $12.95 per month and something called Additional Content ID for $1 per month, but I have no idea what that is.
I played this game during the Rise of the Zilart expansion and back then it was a pretty game, but brutally hard and a grindfest like you wouldn't believe. Finding PUG's could be hard, if you picked a class that wasn't considered cool. Solo players could basically go fuck themselves after the first couple of levels.
But that was a long time ago and WoW has happened since then, so it's possible (maybe even likely) that they have softened it up a bit to attract new players. I wouldn't know.
Edit: Goddammit, no Kane & Lynch? That shit is old. Discount it already!
The additional content ID is for extra characters if I remember correctly.
As in, you have to pay an extra buck a month for any characters you create past your first.
I played the PS2 version years ago and I remember it being a total grindfest with practically impossible soloing, which was compounded by the fact that it was almost impossible to find a group unless you chose specific jobs.
Is Batman: AA a GFWL game? ie, does it have achievements?
Yes indeed.
Goodie, guess I'll get it for the achievement whoring then. :P
Come for the acheivements, stay for the enforced login and savegame encryption. You're a credit to PC gaming, Microsoft.
What's all this then? O_o

Apparently putting the save files in the "My Documents" folder is the new encryption.
In his defense other GfWL titles but them in the GfWL AppData folder. I have yet to see one use real encryption though.

I know, isn't it awful? I've spent weeks trying to decrypt this "My Documents" folder.
Nice, nice - I mean that the game ties your saves to your GFWL account, that's all. If you don't register an online or offline GFWL account, you can't save at all in the game. Furthermore, someone playing with a different profile won't be able to use your saves - hardly the end of the world, but it is encryption, and serves no purpose in a singleplayer game. Note that I didn't say 'hard to find'.

Save files for the GfWL titles I have experience with have never been tied to a profile. You do have to move the save file from one profile folder to an others folder or to the default save folder if you aren't going to connect to GfWL however.
Is there any way to link my Plants vs Zombies save game folder to actually have it stored on a Dropbox account and then sync that across a couple of machines in which I play the game?
Like maybe have the ..\Steam\steamapps\common\plants vs zombies\userdata actually be a fake folder that is a redirect to my documents\dropbox\plants vs zombies\
Eh? Create my own Steam Cloud since they wont do it themselves.

You sure can. You can either use the symbolic link method I outlined here to create a link between your Dropbox folder and the Plants vs. Zombies folder using the command line (obviously just take my direction and apply them to your desired directories), or you can follow the how-to at dd-gamer, which directs you to a nice little program that makes the link for you.
Some games like Puzzle Quest have a specific folder for save games, which is nice, while others have the game saves in folders that are shared with other data. As long as you can keep the folder sizes small (you're limited to a couple of GB with Dropbox) it doesn't matter.

Every MMO for the last 10 years has been charging near the $15 mark. It's not like it's unprecedented.
So what do you think the chances of a sale on the orange box anytime soon are? I have yet to play this awesomeness which is referred to here so often, but 30 is a bit steep for my wallet.

Has it even gone on sale for that matter?
It usually goes on sale during the holidays; and once when Gordon Freeman was voted the best video gaming character ever.

Yeah, maybe I shouldn't have used italics, heh.
It's just that there seems to be no way that's the best price point for them to be any kind of WoW alternative. How on earth do those free-to-play Korean MMOs get by?

95% of the good content requires you to pay microtransaction fees.

Well, thats what i was afraid of, I must have missed that during the xmas sale . Ahh well heres hoping it goes on sale soon, like this weekend heh. Portal 2 looks like a hell of a lot of fun as well, hopefully it will turn out well.

Is the link directional or does it not matter where the saves are written to? As in do I need to make sure the files exist on the Dropbox folder before they go onto the Save Game folder or does it all sort of become the same thing?

If it's a junction, it effectively means that you have two folders pointing to the same physical data.

I remember someone saying that those MMOs typically have business agreements with Korean netcafes which provide the majority of their income, and any US business is just extra.

You know, part of me is really happy we have Gabe and the people at Valve around. Another part of me is terrified, because if we didn't have them, we would be so screwed.

We are really, really lucky.
I'd think that was just bullshit, but they do seem to have a 'serve the customer' attitude: I ordered some stuff from the store for a Christmas present and it didn't arrive on time, so they sent it again even though the small print said they didn't have to. Both turned up in the end so i've got two Black Mesa mugs and portal posters now.
None - not my genre. I actually passed on action games for years at Sierra, until Half-Life, and I only signed it because I liked the idea of blending a story-telling game with an action game. I saw it as new enough that it wasn't 'just another Doom clone'

Survival horror.
Just putting something on Steam doesn't mean it will be successful.

TF2 usually sells for super cheap when class updates come out.
I bet when Portal 2's release date gets closer, we'll start seeing sales for the first Portal as well.

PC Gaming would be dead.
And I know a lot of people won't see a distinction between "WoW" and "Dead" but meh.
and the rest of gaming too probably.

This is partly because I've been told that Ken Williams gave the green light to Half-Life just before Sierra was sold off.
