Shale is the best. That is cemented early on if you put Shale in your party when you leave the village where you get him.
Its the shrug that does it.
Also, one time in The Deep Roads, me n' the party were in a big fight with Darkspawn and Shale ran off around a corner out of sight being chased by a Hurlock. "No, Shale wtf... don't go off alone!"
WHAMMO!
Hurlock goes flying across the screen and Shale comes strolling back around the corner like "...what?"

Sure, drunk, lecherous dwarves are a dime a dozen, but he takes the "drunk" and "lecherous" parts to such ubsurd heights that previous dwarves of the trope look like chaste water-drinkers in comparison...
...and the conversastion you get with him if you leave for the Deep Roads after Branka, without ever talking to him at the bar, and you're female (and possibly non-dwarf) was one of the most laugh-out-loud things in the OC.
Wait, does she join you if you save the mages? When I first got the game in Nov I got stuck on the mage tower, then I stopped playing the game and traded it in. I've only recently got the game again and have only beaten it once, choosing the rite of annulment.

Yes. There's even dialog involved once she joins you. Lots of it. Plus you get a spirit healer.
She joins you as long as you don't outright kill the mages.
She's also surprisingly funny for a spiritual old lady.
"When did you find out you were a mage, Wynne?"
"Oh, I set a boy on fire."
"Did he deserve it."
"You better believe he did."
She also has amazing exchanges with Zevran, who promises to introduce her to a friend in Antiva that will treat her like a really high class whore, and Oghren who spends all his time trying to get her drunk and seduce her.

She even forces herself into your party when you enter the tower.
You didn't listen to Morrigan and kill her to lower the barrier, did you?
Hell, she stayed with me even though I failed in saving them.
Yeah, as long as you don't kill them or support the killing of them, she'll stay with you.
She'll even stay with you if you
save any/all of them and then suggest to the Templar dude that it's too dangerous to assume that any of them weren't possessed, which causes the Templar dude to disband the Circle.

She joined me at the tower, but I figured it was temporary.
Plus, she found out that I had planned to have the rite of annulment envoked so I had to kill her cause she didn't like that.

Fight like a Spartan??? I don't want to fight with a spear and very little clothing...
Plus how do mages fight like Spartan's?
Stupid thing to say!
I gotta agree here that the promotional tagline they're going with is pretty retarded. What do Spartans have to do with Thedas?
small number of fighters against a massive unstopable horde?
Who are then fucking crushed by said unstoppable horde after all the other peoples fighting with the small number of fighters left after it became obvious there was a need to get the fuck out of there?

Which later allowed the various power to be congealed into an alliance that fights and eventually destroys the horde?

Except the horde is never actually destroyed and said group of fighters simply wants to stay at home after the whole war in order to better oppress their slaves while the alliance is never? That Sparta? Wouldn't a comparison to Alexander the Great make much more goddamn sense.
Thermopylae is arguably the most famous battle in European ancient history, repeatedly referenced in ancient, recent and contemporary culture. In western culture at least, it is the Greeks who are lauded for their performance in battle.[109] However, within the context of the Persian invasion, Thermopylae was undoubtedly a defeat for the Allies, and one with disastrous consequences.[110] It seems clear that the Allied strategy was to hold off the Persians at Thermopylae and Artemisium;[62] whatever they may have intended, it was presumably not their desire to surrender all of Boeotia and Attica to the Persians.[62] The Greek position at Thermopylae, despite being massively out-numbered, was near-impregnable.[89] If the position had been held for even slightly longer, the Persians may have had to retreat for lack of food and water.[63] Thus, despite the heavy losses, forcing the pass was a clear Persian victory, both tactically and strategically.[89] The successful retreat of the bulk of the Greek troops, though morale-boosting, was in no sense a victory, though it did take some of the sheen off the Persian victory.[89]
It is sometimes stated that Thermopylae was a Pyrrhic victory for the Persians [111][112], that is, one in which the victor is as damaged by the battle as the defeated party. However, there is no suggestion in Herodotus that this was the effect of the Battle of Thermopylae on the Persian forces. Furthermore, this idea ignores the fact that the Persians would, in the aftermath of Thermopylae, conquer the majority of Greece,[113] and the fact that Persians were still fighting in Greece a year later.[114] Alternatively, the argument is sometimes advanced that the last stand at Thermopylae was a successful delaying action that gave the Allied navy time to prepare for the Battle of Salamis.d[›] However, compared to the probable time (c. 1 month) between Thermopylae and Salamis, the time bought by the last stand at Thermopylae was negligible.[115] Furthermore, this idea also neglects the fact that Allied army was fighting at Artemesium during the Battle of Thermopylae, incurring losses in the process.[116] Cawkwell suggests that the gap between Thermopylae and Salamis was caused by Xerxes systematically reducing Greek opposition in Phocis and Boeotia, and not as a result of the battle of Thermopylae; thus, as a delaying action, Thermopylae was insignificant compared to Xerxes’s own procrastination.[113] Far from labeling Thermopylae as a pyrrhic victory, modern academic treatises on the Greco-Persian Wars tend to emphasise the success of Xerxes in breaching the formidable Greek position, and in the subsequent conquest of the majority of Greece. For instance Cawkwell states that "he was successful on both land and sea, and the Great Invasion began with a brilliant success...Xerxes had every reason to congratulate himself",[117] whilst Lazenby describes the Allied defeat as "disastrous".[110]
Actually, that would be fairly awesome if they wanted it to be more grimdark.

Actually, you can outright kill the mages in the final battle for the tower and she will join you. Just don't tell her you're going to do that. It worked for me, at least. I told her I wanted to save the mages, she joined me. I told the templar outside the final room I was going to save the mages, then I killed them all, and she said something like 'it's a pity we couldn't save all of the mages' when the battle was done, but she still stayed in my party, and the Templars took over the tower.

Yeah, Hawke looked nicely detailed. The new hurlocks and the new orge looked hideous (not in a good way) and the terrain looked like MMO placeholder art. I really hope they're unintended leaks from an early alpha or something.

Having never played KotoR, I instead think she's terrible, obnoxious, and is a glorified paper weight.
Especially since she's completely garbage compared the Golem form in the Fade.
Edit: I agree that Sten is awesome though. A jerk, but an awesome and likeable jerk.

And, just to prove gjaustin wrong, I never played KOTOR either. :P
I always used Wynne, Zevran, and either Oghren or Shale.

It's ok to fail if you try, but if you are like "screw those bastards" then she fights you before you go in the topmost room.

I mean, the amount of polygons on that Ogre is shameful. BioWare, you can do better. I know you can.
Hopefully they can at very least brush up the textures (though, being Bioware...)
