I'm surprised no one has brought up Pocket Legends yet. A free MMO with very high production quality.
The wife and I have been playing it pretty much all day.
we talked about it in the G&T game apps thread
i would be playing it but i just got pokemon. it is pretty polished for being free, i gotta say
i haven't tried it myself, but when I asked a friend who did he said there's no depth whatsoever. Walk. Kill. Walk. Kill. Walk. Kill. i guess that's what most games are anyways... It is interesting, though, and makes me look forward to what else they can do MMO-wise...
Yeah played it for a bit last night. It's a decent game but feels very shallow and repetitive. I don't know whether this is because it's a new game or the developers or the platform or target audience or what.
Edit: it's also not entirely free -- it's a cash game and it looks like you have to pay for more levels if you want to advance past level 13 (going solely by the in-game npc conversations in the "town")
I'm not opposed to that necessarily but not convinced it's worth the money at this point.
I wouldn't be opposed to paying for an MMO on the iPad, but it would have to be 1) really good, and 2) pretty cheap to play (because whereas I might sit in front of a computer for 72 hours straight playing a game like WoW or UO, I doubt I could play on an iPad for any appreciable amount of time)
So safari reloading pages (almost, how does it decide?) every time I switch between apps or pages is really annoying. Seriously I have how many gigs of storage on this thing and it can't save my state?

Yeah, that bothered me too, to the point that I don't even use Safari as my default browser anymore.
Check out iCab Mobile.
It's nice and smooth and has tons of handy features, but the best part is the smooth tabbage. I have it set to open all clicked links in the background in new tabs, and I can click click click across a page, and they'll all open in the background, and stay there, unless I close the app.

Shit, this is awesome. Just having download support is a huge relief.
Yeah. I've had to muster up a lot of will to hold out for the 3G model.
"Late April" merf.
What's bad is that, to meet this deadline, they're basically going to have to ship in the next couple weeks. And we still don't have a solid release date. Yeah.
I just didn't think I would use the 3G much. Maybe it would be nice to have the option but I don't really want to pay another monthly fee. I got it as mostly a coffee table type machine anyway.
I'm glad you can subscribe/cancel the 3G contract when you need it/don't... I'll probably need the 3G no more than 4 or 5 months out of the year. But when I need it, it will certainly be extremely valuable to have.
Don't Palm Pre phones have built in mobile hotspot or something? That might be a good combo to have: palm pre/iPad WIFI (vs what I have iPhone/iPad 3G).

Verizon Pres have free mobile hotspot, from what I understand, though it's limited to 5 GB I think. Sprint has something similar, but you have to pay for it. I have a Sprint Palm Pre, and I use a homebrew program called "MyTether" that lets you tether your phone as a WiFi hotspot for free.
I thought about just using this and getting a WiFi iPad, but I don't use it much now, and if I used it with the iPad I'm afraid I would use way too much data and Sprint would get wise to my tethering shenanigans. I like that with the 3G iPad I won't have to mess with all that and can just use the built in 3G on the device as much as I want, and not have to worry about contracts or anything.
Of course, this is all assuming I ever get my iPad 3G. They at least said in the international announcement that U.S. 3G orders were still on track to be delivered by late April. Incredible that they can say that and yet still not give a solid release date though.
Half a million iPads in the first week and a half is pretty impressive seeing as the 3G model isn't out yet, and the word of mouth buzz these things are generating is incredible. Just playing with one has had most people I know go from "why would you ever spend money on that?" to "holy shit, I want one of these"
I wouldn't be surprised if they passed 5 million sold by the end of the year, assuming the Fall 4.0 update fuels an even huger holiday sales surge.

Every time I bust this thing out on break at work, people flock toward me. Its like in the field of dreams only, instead of a baseball field its an ipad.

I was reading on my kindle at steak and shake last night and some guy asked me whether it was the iPad.

You should put one of those Apple logo stickers on the back of it.

No, please don't be a tool.
Only to confuse morons that much more who ask if a kindle is an iPad.
believe me, I have a bazillion of those stickers. And I've never put them on anything. Apple doesn't pay me to advertise.
I believe it. I saw the same thing at the airport last week.
Anyone go to an Apple Store lately? Are they total mob scenes? (moreso than they usually are?)
I was at one yesterday--there was a steady stream of people playing with the display iPads, but it wasn't a mob scene by any means. Certainly no lines outside like there was for weeks with the iPhone.
Tekzilla just did a review of the ipad.. Said the ipad sucks in a nice way.
The number of positive to negative reviews is pretty darn staggering, and tbh, Tekzilla is a pretty small operation.
Right now we have a few folks in the thread who have a device, someone developing for the device (me), and a legion of reviewers out there who say that while it is not perfect, it does fulfill a need for many.
You clearly have your reasons for disliking it (you seem to seriously hate apple and you don't want the iPad to kill eInk technology), but there are many of us out here who like it just fine.

Let's play Mario Kart or something...
If Safari's limitations are getting on your nerves the consider spending the $0.99 to try out Atomic Web Browser. Got it earlier and I'm really enjoying actual tabs, ad blocking and multiple search engines. It needs to save my session when I close it, not just the active tab, and multiple home pages but it's really nice. I haven't dug into the settings too far so I can't say there aren't more options but I'm pretty sure it lacks those two features.
Gizmodo just posted about it as well.
Edit: last session is supported under startup options

lol I have 3 macs in the house. Granted they are a bit before all the fucking mass public ran around saying they wanted a 2k desktop or macbook pro because it looked cool. My first computer was an Apple IIg with a green screen, followed by g3 and g4 ibook. hey, but I wasn't some douche who overpaid and bought it for the looks.

umm, the iBooks were almost entirely about the looks compared to similar devices of the time. One of the biggest drivers of the platform was the unique clamshell design, leading to a whole bunch of uneducated people buying into the platform and not knowing the work needed (back then) to fully "switch." If anything, Apple has been scaling back the unique look of their devices over the years for something sleek but functional.
This thing was the iPod mini of the computer world.

I managed to somehow corrupt all the apps and had to reinstall them all.

Fixed.
At least you can go to the Apple store to play with one, I can't even do that.
Edit: well that's a pretty shitty TOTP.

One of the people I work with does a lot of skiing, and apparently this thing is "perfect for skiiers" in 3G mode.
lol World.

usually skiing takes place in, well... cold places. Places where you want to wear gloves that aren't fingerless.
Yeah; the iPad isn't a best use scenario without modding your clothes.

Google to buy Apple in 5 years.
NOOOOOO !
On the other hand, I can't afford it until the end of May anyway...
I wish they'd just announce the bloody UK pricing, though.
Fuck that, I'm canceling my pre-order. i don't want to be the only one owning that unsupported garbage.
And google wouldn't want a failed company like Apple... Michael Dell was right -- Apple should have given all their investors their money back.

Really? REALLY? End of April is two weeks away and you can't be more specific?
