I don't like the extreme approach TTB takes with only one quote. But I think limiting it to say 5 deep would work well.
Though of course people will probably accuse you of taking all the fun out of SE if you suggest that 20 deep quote trees are annoying and serve no purpose.

I'm in total agreement. If you really have the urge to find out what so and so said fifteen posts ago, just read the thread.

I'm of two minds about it.
Sure it can be annoying but it's also a nice way to catch up on a conversation without sifting through three pages of   :x    and such.
Like all the good things in this world it can be expoloited and I just don't know if we should do anything about it. Also, TTB runs on a Invision and not phpBB and I don't know how difficult it would be to change or if it warrants the time.
Ecoterrorism is actually the single largest terrorist threat at the moment. They don't usually kill people, but they blow up or set on fire very expensive things.

TTB used to run phpBB with quote triming. It wouldn't be overly hard.
And quite frankly it's more annoying to see   :x    repeaded a dozen times as you scroll down the page just because people keep quoting them.

Maybe we should jail anyone that can't figure out how to trim quotes?
If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Here is my take on it. A lot of people have been demanding a lot of things that reduce 'extraneous crap'. I will be finishing a system Ramius was working on, a 'sigless, avatarless, 5 quote deep' thing. Im not sure if it will be one giant 'set forums to wimp' button or three independent switches. I would like to keep the forums experience similar for everyone. This is in early stages, but its an idea that will eventually take effect.

I would prefer 3 switches, as it's quite likely you'd like to keep the avatar and loose the others, or in my case, keep the avatar and sig and loose the quotes.

Would this be a forum-wide thing, or would everybody be able to set their own view in their prefs?

Durrr. :?
Not necessarily. Eliminating the outermost ones could prove quite the conversation stimulant.
but who does that.
maybe we should go the forumplanet approach
ha ha ha wouldn't that be dumb
