The series is about U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, a 19th century-style but modern-day officer based in Florida, who enforces his brand of justice to put a target on his back with criminals and puts him at odds with his bosses in the Marshal service. As a result, he gets reassigned to the district covering his rural Kentucky hometown of Harlan County.
So I'm pretty pumped for this, as it's a fresh start away from any doctor or vampire show. In addition to what I think is a kick-ass concept it's also staring the most awesome of actors, Timothy Olyphant.
This show would have been better if they just brought Andrew Jackson to modern day and had him fight crime.

When I went to see Shutter Island there was a 5 minute preview of this show which was a little bit much, I would say. It seemed pretty well made but "southern cop delivers crispy fried JUSTICE" is not really a premise that appeals to me.
Tim Elephant is a pretty cool dude though!

I'm thinking that it's almost entirely on Timothy Olyphant to sell it, just like Nathan Fillion in Castle.

anyway this was totally awesome and Timothy Olyphant is basically channeling a young Bill Paxton which is basically the best possible thing anyone could ever do.
this seems like Olyphant is just playing his character from Deadwood can anyone confirm/deny this?
The article in USAToday about this show said his character in Deadwood didn't really enjoy being a lawman, he did it because he had to. His character in this show loves his job.
i mean, at first it throws you for a loop because shit, it's the first time a dude encounters this many curses in the west this side of blazing saddles but it's a great story of the brutality and downright shitty nature of people back in that era
I should watch Deadwood some time. The things I hear about it make me think I don't really need to watch it though. I heard it has great characterization and well-done dialog, but I don't really want to watch a show about people being horrible to each other.

I didn't expect it to be lighthearted I just didn't expect everyone character including the women to have the vernacular of Joe Pesci in Goodfellas. Gene Hackman played a true motherfucker in Unforgiven unlike anything in a John Wayne flick and he managed to do it without dropping the c-bomb every 15 seconds.

The worst thing about the Hitman movie was two people very close to me told me it wasn't bad. I watched caught about 15 minutes of it when my roommate put it in once and was all "What the fuck is wrong with you?!"

i mean, you aren't the first cat to take issue with what many have characterized as excessive swearing in the show
initially, i think they had a problem with greenlighting the show because of the cursing but the creator convinced them that dudes was cursing up a storm
that era was full of intelligent yet ignorant and crass cats, so while somebody speaking iambic pentameter and saying fuck every five seconds may seem a little strange played out on screen, it isn't the biggest stretch of the imagination to say that it's likely there were people that spoke like that

the "love story" of the film was the best part
that bitch can't keep her clothes on despite her hatred of cats that sexually mistreated her and baldy can't stop acting like a date rapist with a bad case of premature date rapist remorse

Too much awesome for televisions to handle...

Trail of Tears
coming to AME this fall
So something like this perhaps?
Pretty much exactly that yes
but with more coughing up blood and chronic pain from the lead bullet lodged in his chest
but my title was cooler!
Thanks thread for reminding me.

The rest of the show was great too, don't get me wrong. But damn.

Do you think there's a chance it will get put on Hulu?
the fact it's grotesque and full of curses reaffirms this
damn it, man
it'd be weirder if everyone talked like john wayne on that show
or more entertaining, i guess
a lighthearted deadwood as an idea just fucks with my mind though
man, he's played in some good roles
but he's also been a boring fucking one note character a whole bunch too
don't even get me started on that bullshit hitman movie
man, he couldn't even muster an english accent?
