Arx Fatalis (lat. "fatal fortress") is set on a world whose sun has failed, forcing the above-ground creatures to take refuge in subterranean caverns. The action in Arx takes place in one of these large caves, where inhabitants from all races such as Trolls, Goblins, Dwarves, Humans, etc. have made their homes on various levels of the cave. The player awakens inside a prison cell and, after making his escape, eventually discovers his mission is to subvert and imprison the God of Destruction, Akbaa, who is trying to manifest itself in Arx.

Don't give the main character melee skills. I didn't like the melee in this game at all.

    A little update.

I was hoping to have the first set ready yesterday; I have the game footage recorded, and I did a couple commentary tracks last night, but I'm having desync issues with Audacity at the moment. I'll mess around with it again tomorrow and decide what I want to do from there, but I'm hoping to get this thing started here shortly.

This game is awesome, right up until you fight the Ysylldicks or whatever they are. Then it just stops being fun.

I don't mind the Ylsides so much, but there's a certain segment in the dwarven mines that I always dread playing.

More like Ultima Underworld III, m i rite?

I keep meaning to buy the Steam or GOG copy (I had it on disc years ago), but I keep forgetting. I'll probably end up getting the GOG copy because of the 1.19 patch, even though it's more expensive.

Basically, every time I get the gumption together to buy Arx Fatalis, I just end up starting a new game on the first Underworld, which is a shame, because Arx Fatalis is actually pretty awesome.

edit: I guess there is an unofficial patch for the retail and Steam versions, to bring them up to 1.19 as well.
