I've been having the same problem when I try to install AVG Free each time. I've looked at their forums, searched google about it, there's no answer I can find... So I was wondering if you guys had any idea what I could do to fix this error:

Local machine: installation failed
Error: Action failed for file avgmtrapx.dll: creating file....

It occurs when it starts installing files from '3rd parties' or what not.

    What OS are you using?

If Vista or Win7, try running the install file as an Administrator (right click, run as administrator), and see if that clears anything up.

Try this on the AVG forums. I ran into a similar problem before.

Personally, I think the error was installing AVG. =) I can't stand how difficult they make it to disable and uninstall and completely eradicate their software. Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes are two very good programs that are free and are easy to disable if you need to turn them off to install something.
