Shoota's also countered Banshees and Guardians once they were upgraded with the Big Shoota upgrade, which forced Eldar into trying to use Rangers, and Shoota Knob got detection.
Eldar were really the only race that had no proper counter to Shoota spam.
I'm sure those Shootas really shined when the Wraith guard hit the field. Or when the warlock got an Immolator and burned your blob to the ground. Or a Shuirken Cannon that can solo your entire force unless your hero (save warboss) is babysitting and not being countered.
Eldar do not fear the Shoota. To be completely honest the Shoota is a terrible melee counter to boot. The Ork melee counter is superiority in melee. The shoota's supression ability is probably the worst "tier 1 melee counter" ability in the game. Reduces the Shoota squad down to 2 dps and lasts for a piddly amount of time. I have had banshees charge through the suppression with fleet of foot even with a token backup squad trying to do damage to them while they were suppressed. It simply doesn't work. The shoota is a misguided support unit at this point.
Shoota spamming has been a sort of niche fun build but it is by no means competitive. I feel confident saying this even though I've been out of the game for probably 4-5 months.
It's IG, with one of their Commanders being an Inquisitor Lord.
German magazine has published an article covering the reveal.
We've seen scans, so it's legit. Assuming that I can't link them due to standard forum policy... so you'll have to either find 'em yourself, or take my word for it.
That said... some of what the article states is just... far out.
IG get:
Buildable vehicles in T1
Basilisks
Baneblade.
So yeah, there's a lot of speculation that, while it's confirmed that IG are the new race, a lot of the information regarding them may be incorrect. We saw something similar just before Chaos Rising was released, foreign mag listed the Chaos units, half of it being utter rubbish.
I guess that makes sense. Relic successfully trolled us with all the Inquisition stuff.
With regards to Eldar vs Shoota's, well, personal experience is that he typically has his two shooter squads + Slugga up easily when I've got my one Guardian and one Banshee squad.
What usually ends up happening is fighting from range if he can, and the banshees get some nasty fire if they try to charge (and are easily outclassed by his Slugga + support should the get there). If I try to stick to ranged (I usually play Warp Spider), he pretty much takes apart my one guardian squad in a direct fight.
Getting Aspect evens it up a little, but if he's smart he'll just run his Shoota's out of there and let the Slugga's come in whilst turning around and giving support. Even with Aspect, the Banshee's usually fold quite fast under that kind of pressure. Or possibly a Shuriken platform instead, but usually that's where the hero unit comes in and disables it. WSE isn't really good for tying up units like the other two are.
This is all early game though. If you can hold out things usually even up. I don't think it's a competitive build, but it certainly gives me problems in the early game if the guy knows what he's doing. It's not Aiming Wot's Dat that does it (unless it's the only option to prevent banshees from hitting his Shoota's), but typically the damage which cuts up fleshy Eldar units quite badly, followed by his reserve Slugga squad going in for the kill.
Although all this is from about a month ago, I haven't played since just before 2.5 hit IIRC, which is when Shoota's got a minor damage nerf (and they transferred some of that damage over to the Nob).
It appears that all the races are going to essentially be running the same campaign with variations. Meh, I don't really mind that so much, as long as everyone's got a logical reason for being there. I was doubtful that they'd actually be able to provide unique campaign maps for each race.
Also, looks like the sector's up for an Exterminatus. Given how things turned out in Chaos Rising, I thought that might be the angle taken in the next game. Glad to see that's where they're going. After everything's that happened, it's natural that the Inquisition get involved and want to take everything down to atoms.
It's also funny on the offical DoW 2 forums to see the crying from the Inquisition fans, right after they got finished bashing and mocking IG fans for thinking the Guard would make it in. Justice is served on the internets!
I could use a co-op buddy, if there's anyone else who's not cleared it or wants to run it again.
Hey, I haven't completed the campaign for Chaos Rising yet, I'll send you a friend request. Let me know if you want to blast through a few levels over the holidays. Haven't played DOW for a while, looking forward to it

It wasn't really hard or anything, but it's still a very stupid idea to throw in an RTS in the WH40k universe, when playing the army who's idea of stealth is to yell loudly and start stabbing things.

SO just kill them, take the corruption hit and repent later.
It might be this week. It was on sale during ... thanksgiving sales? But hasn't passed in xmas sales yet. Likely a daily on the gold edition and the editions separate.

So Guard are getting a Baneblade, and Space Marines are getting a Land Raider, and Orks are getting a Battlewagon. I wonder if Tyranids and Eldar are getting any heavy hitting units?
Eldar is getting autarch, tyranid is getting that thingamajigg
Actually I forgot what they were getting.
It's for the better really, any vehicle they give to eldar will be piece of shit anyways. Fire dragons instead of platforms would be nice to at least fight against the other heavy tanks. edit: oh wait, there's still wraith guard. How come I always forget about the wraiths whenever I don't play for a while and then spam the button.

Autarch with it's rain of grenades and mass kill and jumping and not being an actual unit to produce not heavy hitting enough for you?
also: I'm kinda disappointed that Chaos Rising only had two Space Hulk missions. Oh well, there are 2 other PC games for that I guess.
Oh that's right, she's psychic power call-in with the option of removing her from battle at a cost. Interesting but i'd still maybe rather have fire dragons Autarch is likely anti-infantry only. Although good at it with AoE nades

It would have to be.
Smexy Inquisition: A-
Lord Commissar: A+ (If he's in the badass vein of Gaunt/Cain)
Hopefully there's enough unique stuff in each campaign. Still, I plan on playing as each faction.
An OH YEAH BABY! 80s rambo clones are back!
But to hell with it! IMPERIAL GUARD! FUCK YEAH!
Merry Christmas you filthy heretics!
I've tried reading the information on this properly, but all I can see is 'Baneblade'. Should be fun getting that up the stairs on that city map.

They've aged remarkably well.
edit: Excepting the part where the PC version of the second game needs a VM and a lot of changed settings
have you seen this http://www.moddb.com/mods/space-hulk-mod ?

Pretty easy, just use Cyrus and call ins to take out the generators.
SO just kill them, take the corruption hit and repent later.
The rest of the marines are very much about using tactics. I think the only ones they foresake are the Guerilla or Hit and Run tactics.
