Spent $2 on this at UFO today. First $1 was for $7 minutes of practice, then I watched some guy play a mode and I cut in right before he was fixing to die and then I played whatever mode that was until the end. Fortunately he was terribad. All the different jumps are messing me up.
I went Kula, Athena, Elizabeth and took him down without bringing out Eliz, who was the character I practiced with. 623A, 623A
Charging them gimps the hell out of you though. In order to do that combo with max damage dropkicks, he had to hold both B and D for 16 seconds (they're kinda like Balrog's turn around punch, but instead of 10 seconds for max damage it's 16).
The only explanation offered is that the producer suddenly demanded that the artists draw up some renders of how these characters would look in the XII/XIII graphical style. For no reason. Hmm...
First, KOF Sky Stage is coming to XBLA on September 15th. It's a pretty cool shmup, if you're into shmups and KOF. Bad news is that there will be English voices. Hopefully they'll be an option to change them?
Next up is the disturbing news that the KOF live-action movie may see the light of day. Looks like it'll be released on DVD in some parts of the world. Please be careful not to accidentally watch it. If you do find yourself accidentally watching it, remain calm and simply hold your breath until you lose consciousness.
There are many more matches by those players. You can see some 100% combos and Mature's (very stupid) infinite. That Joe/Maxima/Shen team is a lot of fun to watch. Also, just to illustrate how unreliable early tier lists are, Joe was ranked bottom in the first one posted a month ago.
Wait, there are tier lists already out for KOF XIII? I guess it has been out in arcades for awhile now. Just seems like there's been nothing since, you know, no arcades over here.
Yeah, it was too early to take seriously, but I remember it put Joe at the bottom and Kyo, K' and Elizabeth at the top. Kula and Iori were also really high up there.
I mean, there's definitely a lot to recommend those characters. But every character in the game seems to capable of some ridiculous stuff. SNK just needs to fix some of the stupid stuff (Mature's infinite, Takuma and Goro's free EX moves, and a few glitches) and the game will be top-notch.
Those clips were edited to seem worse than they are.
And whoever made it missed the best part of the movie, where Mai beats up a bunch of homeless guys with a trash can. You don't even need editing or context to make that look stupid.
SNK Playmore’s: King of Fighters XIII Taito Type X² – Sold out worldwide
These days, it’s been pretty quiet in terms of gaming news from SNK Playmore Corp with some random news here and there for Xbox Live/PS3 releases, such as KOF Skystage and NEO GEO Heroes, which are surprisingly both shooters (both to be released as download format only). While console owners anxiously await for the release of King of Fighters XIII for both PS3 and Xbox 360, in order to get a taste of their much improved (over KOF XII) and praised fighter, you have to head to your arcades to capture the action. The only problem is, most arcades, especially in the United States (unless imported the unit from Japan/Hong Kong), are pretty much out of luck as all new units of KOF XIII on the Taito Type X² have all dried up and are out on the market. From the distributors that we’ve spoken to, used copies of this game are selling for more than the original new price itself (Sold as a NEW Kit: Taito Type X² Motherboard and KOF XIII Software ranges between $3500-4200 USD). A huge chunk of change considering today’s economy, but gamers are lining up to play, SNK Playmore Corp’s (and their former SNK JP) convincingly best product to this date. Well, all we can say is, when you make a quality product, you get results. As for the console version of the game, we will get a more detailed report on this in the next few weeks, but preliminary reports we received is that the online gameplay will NOT disappoint. We hope so because that could be a deal killer because these days, it’s all about the online gameplay.
That is fantastic news. I wonder if there's enough demand that SNKP is going to produce more units? Because considering it's sold out, it's still not as easy to find in Japan as, say, Blazblue:CS.
Unrelated, but I thought this was pretty awesome from the blog:
Jubei Yamada is one of SNK's best designs, and he needs to be brought back some day. End of story.
Maybe they had a low production run considering the success of 12, but at least it shows that there's demand for the game and hopefully earns SNK a nice bit of profit.
Blazblue CS is pretty huge in japan anyway from what I know.

Spiel about Japanese arcades:
To me, there's a big divide in Japanese arcades between the multi-cabinet fighters and the single-cabinet fighters.
The multi-cab fighters are super easy to find, and consist or two to three back-to-back cabinets (so four-to-six screens) and often another screen that just streams matches all day. They also all have card-readers for tracking player data / unlocks / customizations. In order of (perceived) popularity, they're:
Tekken 6
Street Fighter IV
Virtua Fighter V: Final Showdown
I think these cabinets are only sold in larger bundles, so they're a much bigger investment. But they do good business, so most Japanese arcades still buy them. The other fighters you see are almost always single-cab (two screens, back-to-back). The modern ones are (in order of how common they are in my experience):
Blazblue CS
Arcana Hearts 3
Melty Blood: AA
KOF XIII
Of this group, Blazblue is certainly the most popular. My problem is that KOF really shouldn't be this low in the list. My theory is that, because KOF is less popular than Blazblue, and because the Taito X2 hardware (same as Blazblue and SFIV) is so expensive, few arcade owners are taking the risk on it. Which means less people play it and it stays less popular.
My point is (or was, before I went into this diatribe) that, while Blazblue may be more popular, it's not on a different level from XIII. Or rather, KOF could be much closer to it in popularity if it was just in more arcades.
Huh, that is pretty interesting. Does that mean that multi cabs are more popular? Because I definitely remember blazblue usually being under tekken 6 and gundam vs and much higher than SF4 in Arcadia popularity listings, so it does pretty well.

Thanks for the work friendly post above. I'd be interested to see how many were produced too. 13 Total cabinets?
I'm just going by what's easy to find, and Blazblue is definitely easy to find. Arcadia popularity rankings are probably based the amount of money each machine makes, so, averaged out, I wouldn't be surprised if Blazblue makes a ton of money for arcade owners.
Big is a pretty relative term, so I don't know how to answer. Based on the amount of fanart in Arcadia and the amount of cosplayers at TGS, I think KOF has a large Japanese fanbase. In terms of competitive players, it's probably just average.
Thanks to NeoGeo Battle Coliseum, I have my fingers crossed for decent netcode. If they manage to do that, maybe I'll actually finally learn how to play KoF.

KoF scene is pretty much dead around here(sans maybe 10 guys who don't even live in the same state), so online is my only hope.

I always wonder about SNK console and Arcade/PSN games. It seems like no one buys them. And that's going at least back to the previous generation of consoles. But they keep on making them. Maybe they're just cheap as hell to port.

The netcode in NGBC was ok but honestly, it needs to be better if SNK wants my money this time.

But Malin and Momoko? Lame replacement lolis for the girl's teams. I wouldn't be bothered never seeing them again.

I couldn't care less about Malin. Momoko was better, but I still don't mind her exclusion. I'd vastly prefer Chang to Hwa Jai for the Kim/Korean Team.

Yeah. No doubt. It just feels to me like the game isn't even out yet. I'm looking forward to the game though.
