For those who missed the stream, they announced that "Iori with the Power of Flame" (aka EX Iori) will be available December 6th for $5. He'll come with his own background and two BGMs.
Strange, I feel that I read in one of Atlus pre order emails that fire Iori would be available on release and that it would be free for those that pre ordered.

That is the case in Japan, but, to my knowledge, Atlus has never suggested that he'd be free for North American players. Unfortunately.
Amazon just informed me that my order has shipped. HYPE.
Woke up early (well, for a vacation), drove to Gamestop, and got my copy.
Determined to finish the tutorial, but I cannot seem to do a Hyperdrive Cancel to save my life (no shock, seeing how I was never good at cancels...*sigh*).
Damn you, Rose! Damn you and your ridiculous drill haircut for throwing me off! It's not my fault! *makes more excuses*
EDIT: Also, rocking bonus soundtrack, of course. Actually used my car's CD player for a change on the drive home.
EDIT EDIT: As perhaps the first person in this thread to get their hands on the US release, I will reveal an incredible spoiler--
The manual doubles as a flip book for a Tiny Mai in the corner. Yup.

I will after lunch. I need to be reminded just how much worse I am, since I'm the only person in my circle of friends who plays a 2D fighter besides SF.

Can you do a normal Drive Cancel? An HD Cancel is just the same thing while in HD mode, so I'd recommend starting with a DC. I don't know if the tutorial gives you any freedom to pick your characters, but some characters are much, much easier for this task than others.

My copy is out for delivery. Hurry up, UPS!
I think I can, but I'm not entirely certain. It doesn't help that the Tutorial can be a little cryptic about which type drive moves it wants you to do, and the actual instructions displayed are too. I'll tackle it again some time, I dropped it and tried my hand at story and arcade mode, which were immensely. fun.
Tried an online quick match--ended with a disconnect, but the weird thing is, it felt just fine when they were kicking my as with Mai (me as Athena), but when I managed to turn it around with my Yuri (won the second battle), they seemed to disconnect. So I think it was deliberate.
Just picked up the PS3 copy myself. Haven't done much besides practice and color edit so far ^_^;; I should probably wait until I unlock some more colors before delving too deeply though.
This. Everyone that's on the fence wants to know the answer to this question. My copy will not arrive until next week, sadly, so I can't answer but I'm reading that it's decent. There is some lag in three bar matches but nothing that makes it unplayabe.
@Synthesis: I just finished the tutorial. You had a question about the gauge part, right? Do you remember which part?
I've played a few matches online, and overall I'm partially satisfied. Not blown away, but satisfied. Apparently, my area (Seattle) has very few players in it, as I couldn't find anyone in my region. The people I did find were usually two or three bars. Two bars is only barely playable, but three bars is fun. I was able to do some drive combos. HD combos are going to be really tough, though.
Basically, I'd be completely satisfied if I was able to find some 4-bars in my area.
@Synthesis: I just finished the tutorial. You had a question about the gauge part, right? Do you remember which part?
The two drive cancel parts (well, however many drive cancel parts there are, since I only know of the two).
I was able to get the first cancel drive off, probably entirely by chance, but I can't even do that anymore. To be honest, I doubt I could ever use either in combat, but at the very least, I'd like to do them in the tutorial. I honestly don't know what I'm doing wrong--I do one move immediately after doing the other, but the game doesn't even register them.
So far, I tried doing one move immediately after the other, and then tried doing one after the other after a fraction of a second break--sort like what you'd need for a combo. Neither one works. Then again, I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing anyway, it could use some help in the explanation department if you haven't memorized the symbology (and sine you can't have Rose repeat herself...).
Okay, I apologize if my only advice isn't very helpful, but
For the first drive cancel example (Kyo's dp+P (DC) qcf+K) you need to input the one move immediately after the other. Kyo's dp+P should only hit once.
You could short cut this a little by inputting f, d, df + P, f+K. That SHOULD work.
The other cancel mission is a MAX cancel from his Orochinagi (qcb, hcf+P) into his NeoMax (qcf x 2 + AC). The timing is a bit easier on this one. Let me know if this does/doesn't help.
And I'd like to qualify what I said about the Netcode earlier. I just had ten matches with someone in California (LA I believe). I'm in Seattle. It was a two-bar connection. And it was playable! It was definitely harder to pull off combos, but we could react naturally to jump-ins and whiffed moves.
What I take away from this is that the netcode is better than I initially though, and the bar indicator is not always reliable.
So, the timing is harsher on the first one, huh? I would have thought it was the other way around. The first one is forward, down, down/forward+punch, followed by forward+kick (for the second half). I was inputting too many commands them.
The other command, part 2, is quarter-circle twice, then the kick (I think it was a kick?)? Did not realize that. So it's not necessary to go into overdrive mode or anything (on the Xbox, that's A+Y--forget what it's techncially called).
Well, off to go try it, wish me luck.
EDIT: Okay, Rex, it seems like your advice helped me through the first part, much appreciated...now I just need to get through MAX Cancel. It doesn't help[ that the first move is extremely hard to pull off in its own right (even if I switch my controller out for the HORI stick I own). Is there any specific signal to look for the first move (Kyo's "ground spark" attack, just to make sure we're on the same page here).
EDIT EDIT: Shit, here's the problem with the tutorial (besides being the typical stupid "can't get this part? Well, no more tutorial for you" of course)--if you're not familiar with Kyo's moves, who have no way of knowing if you're doing the right move in the first place. Is the first move in the MAX Cancel the "ground spark" attack or his his attack that looks like something done by Yuri? Youtube won't even bring up search results for the name (Ura Hyaku Hachi Shiki Orochinagi).
I think it's the "Yuri-like" move, seeing how you can do it in mid-air and the command list says that should be possible (shit, SNK, would it kill you for a fucking demonstration button? Would it?). Now if only the quarter circle back, half-circle forward didn't cause Kyo to run back and forth every time you did it.
Also, kind of redundant, but you do have to enter "glowy" mode, first, right? Man, I hope I'm not the only one who's finding this next to impossible by design--if the rest of you guys were able to get this on your own, I'm not even in the same area as you guys.
No, I figured that out--the problem is I'm pretty much incapable of doing the first move, and even if I can, following it up is practically impossible (it's a one hit move to my knowledge, how exactly are you supposed to combo that in?) with the second, simpler move. Over trying for a couple hours each time, I think I got it two or three times, but the game didn't register. No idea why.
EDIT: Just to be clear, the second move is that sort of "wall of fire" move with a 10-hit combo, right? Because his upwards punch special move is done very, very similiarly.
Is it the EX version of the super? Orochinagi is one-hit normal DM and multi-hit for the EX-DM. If it's the normal DM, then you have to finish inputting the command about the time it hits the opponent. Multi-hits are a bit more lenient, but you can't do it super late.
It's the normal DM into MAX Cancel. Here's what you do:
Input the command for Orochinagi and immediately after you do, input the qcfx2+LPHP command. You want to be buffering the command while Kyo is still holding the flame and right before he releases it. You should probably be hitting the buttons right before the wave of flame hits him.
In that case, you have to "release" the first attack immediately? That might be issue, since I try and hold it just so I have time to actually know what I'm going to do.
I thought that might be the case. At this point, I can actually do the first move somewhat regularly (okay, realistically, probably 18% of the time, with the other 82% of the time resulting in Kyo either jumping and punching, doing that ground spark attack, or just jumping backwards). The problem is getting the second attack in--without holding down low punch.
@Synthesis: Congrats on getting the first part. You basically understand the second part, and it sounds like it's just a matter of training your fingers to do what you want. (go into HD/glowy mode, input Orochinagi, input the NeoMax as soon as the Orochinagi hits.
You can also use some shortcuts here, due to overlap between the moves. Orochinagi is normally qcb, hcf+P and the NeoMax is qcf x 2 + AC. You can shortcut it as simply qcb, hcf+P, qcf+AC.
It's tough at first, but it's not bad once you get the right feel for it.
What ARE tough are some of those later missions in the trial mode. I really need to invest in a fight stick.
How do you unlock Billy and more colors? Arcade mode?
Yeah, arcade mode. Depending on your score, either Billy, Saiki or Ash will challenge you after the third match. I don't know the exact requirements, but I know Saiki only appears if you have a very high score. So, try to get a low score? Again, not sure of the details, but he showed up in my first playthrough.
You unlock colors by playing with the character in Versus (either online or off). It's something like 10 fights = 5 new colors. Which means that, in order to get every color in the game, you need to fight with every character 40 times each. (However, it doesn't seem like you actually have to use your character. For example, if they're number three on your team and you beat your opponent with only your first two characters, it still counts for all three.)

I wasn't really expecting to be able to do any of the missions, besides the most basic ones. Then again, I didn't use Kyo much before this--I doubt I'll ever play him again after it. In the end of the day, I'm pretty confident I hit my peak in fighting games when I was eighteen...that was seven years ago. This kind of proves it, hah.
After a few hours of trying, my problem has changed: I can do the first move, but simply put, I cannot execute the second one immediately afterwards. Or slightly afterwards. No idea why. I tried doing the second move by itself, and the percentages are about 7% or so, with the other 93% being Kyo jump and punches upwards, or, on occasion, he does his ground spark attack.
It's pretty funny at face value--I've actually spent four or five hours on this tutorial, and about an hour on the rest of the game.
Time for a lunch break, then I'll re-examine the problem. My fault for being one of those people who insists on trying to finish a tutorial for its informative value. The shortcut helped a lot with the first cancel drive move, maybe that's what I need.
EDIT: Speaking of which, how long a break are we talking about at the "comma" (between quarter circle back, half circle forward, punch, COMMA, quarter circle forward, Low+High punch)? Personally, I think the game decides that more than the player, but is this instantaneous? I've been trying to shoot for "as soon as possible"...
The game is actually a tiny bit lenient in its inputs. For example, if you input d, df and then hold f for a second and THEN press punch, you can still get a fireball. It might help to try slowing it down, and holding the last directional input for longer.
Although I do understand your difficulty with qcf x 2 + AC and dp+AC. I used to have the same issue.
If any of you guys use a stick, how do you set up your buttons? Is it supposed to be LP,LK,HP,HK across on one row or LP,HP then LK,HK below it? I usually like to set it up the way it would be in an arcade.

Nah, it's only for story purposes. I mean, if you want to see the team endings, you need to use the default teams. Other than that, go nuts!
I just got my copy. So, so happy.
