Wikipedia has MGS 4's NPD sales at 774,600 for its first month, "nearly a million" if bundles were included. Yeah, yeah, I know Wikipedia isn't always reliable, but every other Google result I got referenced VGChartz (ugh).

Anyway, looks like GOW 3 has had the best first month of any PS3 exclusive so far.

No, MGS4 sold 775K its opening month, not counting the hardware bundles.

Counting bundles, the NPD said it "sold-through nearly 1 million units."

Quite happy to see FF13 doing so well. I'm a bit surprised how higher the PS3 version is tough. Doesnt the 360 version of multiplatform titles sale more usually?

Considering XIII has been the guiding light of the PS3 since, IIRC, even before launch, I'm not surprised that it sold more overall, but I am surprised that it's more of a 65/35 split. Though now that I think about it, isn't that generally the way multiplatform sales fall out nowadays? It just normally tips over to the 360's favor, but in this case the roles are reversed.

My guess (based on absolutely nothing) is that a lot of the early-adopter PS3 owners were pulled in by the promise of games like FFXIII (when it was still a PS3 exclusive), so that might account for some of the PS3 version's sales lead. EDIT: Beat'd soundly by Lunker.

With today's release of the March NPD data, Sony Computer Entertainment America boasted that PS3 "continues to be the only hardware console to see double digit growth both year over year (44%) and year to date (36%)." PS3 software, hardware, and peripheral sales accounted for 26% of the video game dollar share in March, which was the highest of any console, Sony said. The company also noted that the PlayStation brand made up 31% of the total video game dollar share in March.

The PS3 business was given a great boost in March by God of War III, which sold 1.1 million units for the month. Additionally, the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIII sold nearly double the Xbox 360 version. Sony couldn't be happier with the momentum it's gained for the PS3 business, but the hardware continues to be slightly hampered by supply problems.

"The huge appetite for PS3 content and gaming experiences has never been stronger as we continue to bring out great games like God of War III which was the #1 software title in March with more than 1.1 million units sold in less than 3 weeks. We also remain the only console to see double digit growth of 44% when compared to last March and are up 36% at this point in the calendar year. It's no surprise, consumer demand remains incredibly high and PS3 supply will continue to be tight across our retail channels in the next few months," said Patrick Seybold, Senior Director of Corporate Communications at SCEA. "We're experiencing healthy momentum from an already blockbuster lineup of games such as MAG, Heavy Rain, White Knight Chronicles, MLB 10 The Show, and God of War III in just the past 3 months -- which some would call a great year, but for us it represents just the first quarter of many anticipated games like ModNation Racers, Gran Turismo 5, and others we have yet to announce this year. Almost certainly not. NPD typically doesn't count games sold in hardware bundles (otherwise Wii Sports would always be in the Top 10).

So God of War gets the #1 spot, but if you combine multiplatform titles over their SKUs, it's only #4. Makes sense.

I think the 360 version of FF13 will probably sell about as much as the PS3 version in the long run, but I'm not surprised to see the PS3 sell more initially. With about half a million copies of the 360 version sold in the first month, I imagine Square-Enix will start announcing that pretty much all of their PS3 games will be going multiplatform.

PSP is selling almost identical to the PS2. That's really bad.

Are those sales numbers just the US or the world?

Because if it's the world then you kinda have to take into account there are a lot more PS3's in Japan than 360's so FF13's sales would probably tip the scale in the PS3's favour.

Mind you... how long was the release time between the Japan release and the international release?

What? No. Only 340K 360s were sold (which does count the hardware bundles), and precedent gives good reason to think that only a small minority of those were elite bundles. I'd guess maybe 75K FFXIII bundles were sold. Maybe.

So, someone noted on GAF that there's no Red Steel 2 or Just Cause 2 (can't say I'm surprised), but also, out of curiosity, I checked last year's software sales:
    # Resident Evil 5 (Capcom, Xbox 360) - 938K
    # Pokemon Platinum (Nintendo, DS) - 805K
    # Halo Wars (Microsoft, Xbox 360) - 639K
    # Resident Evil 5 (Capcom, PS3) - 585K
    # Wii Fit w/ Balance Board (Nintendo, Wii) - 541K
    # MLB '09: The Show (Sony, PS3) - 305K
    # Killzone 2 - (Sony, PS3) - 296K
    # Wii Play w/ Remote (Nintendo, Wii) - 281K
    # Mario Kart w/ Wheel (Nintendo, Wii) - 278K
    # MLB 2K9 (Take-Two, Xbox 360) - 205K

The #10 selling title for this year is 75% higher than the #10 selling title last year, so it's quite possible that those games and others sold fairly well.

Should be interesting to see the top 20 if we get it.

I really wish they'd combine all of a game's SKUs. Certainly still show the system breakdown, but just combine them into one overall spot on the chart. It'd give us a lot better picture of what games sold.

The departures come despite Activision's stated intent to reallocate Modern Warfare 2 bonuses previously intended for West and Zampella to "those employees responsible for the success of the game who remain employees of the company." However, disbursal will only come if Activision prevails in its counterclaim against West and Zampella's initial $36 million suit against the company.

If Activision win, there's probably only going to be one guy left to give the entire bonus to.

Wow, look at FF13 on the PS3. I'm guessing all the pre-hype was mostly responsible for that, maybe fact that the game looked a little better on the PS3 contributed a bit.

Still wasn't a system seller, though.

God of War 3, though. Boy howdy. That's got to be the PS3's biggest first-party debut month.
