Thanks for the answer and if you could tell me, where do they put or install these translators?
They're supposed to be worn. That thing Jack wear's is probably meant to be one. You need the Mass Effect wiki.
The next 3 hours will be devoid of all productivity thanks to that wiki...thanks for the answers though!

The codex entry on haptic interfaces talks about how people who use computers a lot get implants in their fingers for using the crazy holographic keyboards, so I'd assume people could also get translators implanted, cos I mean hanar are sexily nude and you don't see any kind of translator on them. I don't know where you'd even put it.

There's a reason why they never raise their tentacles during a conversion. I think you get the drift.

Sexily and hanar should never be in the same sentence, EVER, except if you subscribe to fornax then your ok :P And why is the thread title changed? i loved the old one
Re: Garrus, having tried it a few ways I feel the best path is to
Make Sidonis talk for a bit, wait for him to ask to die, then let Garrus shoot him. Justice still gets served, but it gives Garrus a bit more satisfaction, I think.

I think Garrus' loyalty mission has great outcomes either way. Both outcomes were very satisfying to watch, and seemed to fit really well with Garrus' character and outlook either way you go.

For what it matters, I do believe that
Sidonis deserved to die. As Shepard says herself "That's it!?" Garrus's whole team signed up for what was practically a suicide mission from the start, but then someone threatens Sidonis personally and all of a sudden he decides he doesn't want to die anymore? It wasn't even like they were threatening his family or something. And even if he wanted out there were ways he could've left without killing his team.
As Garrus says, no one else cares. If he doesn't shoot Sidonis, there will be no justice for him. 'Feeling really bad about it' isn't enough for the deaths of 10 men, especially when he might feel a whole lot better a few months later.

Well:
Eventually Sidonis goes to C-Sec and confesses to being the cause of 10 deaths on Omega. C-Sec isn't quite sure to how to handle it, as Omega doesn't have a government. It's obvious that Sidonis is already in a living hell.
I think the whole sidonis thing would have been a lot more compelling if
the story was that the mercs got to his kids or his wife (or whatever turians have) or some other important third party. As it is he just comes across looking kind of like a selfish, weak willed jerk

I have a different complain about the Sidonis thing.
When Shepard steps out of the way to give Garrus the shot, Sidonis sees Garrus in the distance, kind of goes "oh noes", turns around and walks away. That's just stupid. They should've had Garrus plant one in his face the moment Sidonis realized what's going. The whole "ima just turn around and walk away slowly" thing takes a lot of punch out of the situation. It's very much not cinematic.

My latest run as a pure Paragon let him live and I think that was more Renegade then anything. I think killing him is a reward not a punishment. As he said, he has nightmares and can't sleep and feels awful 24/7, that I think is the best punishment ever.
Then to show he could have been killed, and didn't. Show how much of a better man Garrus is then he is, man, let him think on that for a few mind torturing centuries!

yeah
really not sure what they thought they were accomplishing with that
seems like it would have been less work to do it properly

Really? Because the implication I got was that
Sidonis was savagely beaten and probably tortured into giving out the information. "They were going to kill me" doesn't necessarily mean they just said mean things. They're fucking bloodthirsty mercs who caught Sidonis alone, Sidonis, who was part of a group that was making their lives a living hell.
Do you really think they went easy on him?
I can't blame him for not being a super human movie badass like everyone else. He was a normal person who tried to make a difference and didn't have what it took.

I agree.
I mean, he crumbled under the pressure. Sure, its not laudable, but its not like he was Judas and his thirty pieces of silver.
And really, what does killing him solve? It isn't like he's going around serially betraying do-gooder groups or other evil things.

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it. ~ Terry Pratchett
I don't think it gives him any long-term closure. I'm not even sure it's a good outcome for him. I mean the situation is at least partly his fault, in my eyes - how does Sidonis end up in that position anyway?

For some reason, Mass Effect 2 no longer lets me save. It can detect my old saves, but when I press the quicksave button nothing is saved. No saves are being generated, and I cannot make any progress. It's being run as administrator, the folder is not read only, I am confused.

I'm not trying to end world hunger here, just stop the things with a hunger for the world.
Garrus wants him dead, that's the way it's gonna go. I've got more important moral dilemmas to worry about.

I dissuaded Garrus, because my paragon is gradually hammering into him that he does what Shepard wants him to do, damnit. Your feelings are wrong, do what I say.
Took three downloads but I finally got ME2 working.
I will never, ever use Direct2Drive for anything ever again, no matter how cheap it is.

Woo! Successful blackout and playthrough completed! It was hard to stay away from this thread but I'm glad I did it. I didn't even have a hint of the things coming my way, except in the broadest sense, like heavily marketed characters. I'm definitely doing it again when ME 3 eventually rolls around.
And omfg what a rush of a game. What a fun middle chapter, and it was absolutely awesome bringing my Shep from from the first game over. Totally an immediate sense of immersion.
I made this account just for this thread because I'm addicted to mass effect 1 & 2 and there is one thing that bugs me and i hope someone could answer this for me... Why the hell does everyone speak human English? Did humanity demand this just so we didn't have to learn like fifty million alien languages?
built-in translators
at one point in the ME1 DLC you hear a batarian babbling in his native tongue before the translator catches up
yeah, it's sort of a silly convention, but bioware tried rendering alien languages in KOTOR and apparently people couldn't stand it
